The product, in the report: Product Name: GoTrax Electric Go-Kart Model/Version: (If available, include model number or product name as shown on the packaging or website) Color: (Include color of the go-kart, e.g., “red,” “blue,” “black,” etc.) Dimensions: (Include approximate dimensions, such as length, width, and height if known) Weight Capacity: (Include the recommended weight limit, usually found on the product or packaging) Product Type: Electric go-kart for children Power Source: Rechargeable battery Intended Age Range: (Include the age range for which the go-kart is designed, typically found in product specifications) Retailer: Purchased from Target Date of Purchase: December 2024
I am reporting a dangerous safety defect in a childrens electric go-kart manufactured by GoTrax, purchased in December 2024 as a holiday gift.
The issue is with the throttle system. When the go-kart is in use, pressing the acceleration pedal sometimes causes the vehicle to continue accelerating even after the rider has released the pedal. This malfunction causes the go-kart to move uncontrollably until it is powered off manually, which is difficult and unsafe for a child to manage in an emergency.
The go-kart was used exactly as intended on a flat, paved surface by a child within the products stated age and weight limits, and under adult supervision. During one such incident, the faulty throttle led to the child losing control and falling, which resulted in a minor injury. This situation could have been much worse and presents a clear risk of serious harm.
I contacted GoTrax customer support multiple times to report the malfunction and requested escalation to their safety or product team. The company refused to assist, directing me back to the retailer (Target) for a return, ignoring the fact that this is a defect with serious safety implications, not a routine return.
Because GoTrax failed to address the problem or acknowledge the potential danger, I am submitting this report to notify the CPSC of a hazardous product malfunction in a children’s electric vehicle.
