The product, in the report: The item that caused the injury was the igloo 90qt flip and tow cooler.

On Feb 8, 2020, I was using the Igloo 90qt maxcold cooler when the handle unexpectedly fell downward on my finger, causing my finger to become squeezed and resulting in a severe injury. My finger was swollen from the injury and several months later, my fingernail on my finger began to have pain. At first, it felt like an ingrown fingernail and since the world was restricted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was limited in seeking medical attention. I went to several doctors from my general practioner to finally an orthopedic surgeon to address the issue. As a result, I suffered of the injury, I had damage to my finger nail area, requiring two surgeries over the past four years to correct. This injury has had lasting effects, including continued weakness in my dominant hand, quality-of-life challenges, career setbacks, and concerns about future nail issues.

Recently, while attempting to order a replacement tow handle for my current Igloo products, I mentioned my injury to the customer service representative. The issue was escalated to Igloos general counsel, who reached out to me and requested documentation, including a narrative of the injury, photos, a diagram, medical records, and other supporting materials.

After receiving my submission, Igloo’s counsel responded a week later, stating that my injury was covered under an existing recall. However, when I replied seeking to address my injury directly, I received no further response. It has now been several weeks since my follow-up, and despite Igloos previous urgency in reaching out to me at all hours when they sought information, they have since gone silent now that I am the one seeking answers.

I would appreciate the CPSCs guidance on next steps and any recommendations on how to proceed.

I can forward relevant documentation, including photos, medical records, and my correspondence with Igloo. Please let me know if additional information is needed.

The product, in the report: Igloo cooler 90qt. butler style handle with Kickstand tray holder purchased at Costco.can be seen online at costco.com Igloo Flip and Tow 90 Quart Cooler Item 1356922 Model costco.com Item# 1356922

Igloo cooler, I purchased 2 coolers from Costco 90 qt, I think/ it has wheels on one side and a large handle than another black handle or what I thought was a handle. I shipped the food as planned when the cooler was on the turn style conveyor. The black handle was the only place I could grab it. The cooler weighed 79 or 87 pounds, so to get it up over the bumper rail approx 4 inches, I had to pull with enough force to clear it. I did not see or know that handle was under the larger one, so when I jerked the cooler up and away from the conveyor, it forced the larger handle to slide up the one I was holding onto, making a pinch point. The large handle is hard plastic rounded edges except for the back of the handle. That section is a 90-degree edge sharp, sharp enough that it cut off the tip of my right pinky approximately 1/4 inch of it also took off my entire fingerprint or pad of the finger! Gone, the fatty tissue is all that is left. This could happen to anyone looking for a place to grab the chest because of its shape and placement. You assume it’s a handle. It is not a handle. It’s a support to turn the big handle into a tray holder! What a stupid design. They could have done the same thing by having two hinged supports that click in separately. Making something look like a handle in a spot you expect to have a handle is a bad idea and this has or will happen again. I am dealing with the injury now hopefully it will heal if it does not I will have no other option than to fly to Anchorage to see a specialist and probably miss the season at the plant I work at. I will be informing Igloo directly and also Costco because they are responsible and will pull the product if they feel there is a risk there.
