The product, in the report: grill cover
In March of 2017 I purchased a barbecue cover from Kmart (Kenmore Elite - # 40339). I had purchased their product in the past and it did not last very long so I bought the most durable one they had. I did not use my grill more than 2 or 3 times in 2017 and 2 or 3 more times in 2018. The last time I removed the cover I noticed that it emitted a cloud of dust. Just recently I noticed that there was a tear in one of the corners - probably from the wind. Since the cover had a warranty of 5 years, I went to take photos of the tear for purposes of getting a refund. After taking the photos (attached) I noticed that my fingers were covered in a white powder / dust which concerned me. I then located the box which stated that the cover was made from polyester which is a plastic and coated with PVC (polyvinyl chloride) which is another form of plastic. I than went online to research and learn if PVC was toxic (I try to refrain from buying products made in China whenever possible - they paint our children’s toys with lead based paint and put anti-freeze in our toothpaste).
It didn’t take long to find out that PVC is indeed very toxic.
After a little over a year of slight use, this product began to decompose emitting a poisonous dust. I do not want to breath it in - I don’t want it on my cloths and I definitely don’t want it anywhere near my food. When I tried to contact Kenmoore (several times - 866-872-7442 - the # on the box the cover came in) no one answered and no returned my call for several weeks. When someone finally did get back to me she said that she could not issue me a refund and that she was only authorized to send me a replacement. I explained to her that the cover was made out of a toxic material and I did not want a similar one that was destined to decompose and emit a poisonous dust just as the one I already have. This is a bad product and never should have been put on the market to begin with. Please help me get my money back so that I can purchase a BBQ cover that won’t kill me - and this product should be taken off the market asap.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 3 Burner Patio Grill
The Kenmore 2 Burner Grill Patio Grill first caught on fire on either July 5th or 6th when being used to grill hamburgers. With approximately 8 burgers on the grill, the entire grill caught on fire during our party. We had cleaned the grease trap prior, but we figured it may have caught on fire due to the extreme heat that day. We were able to put the fire out without too much incident, but the frame definitely had been on fire. Then, using the grill again on August 31st, we tried to slow cook ribs. Again, we cleaned the grill thoroughly before use. After about 30-45 minuts cooking on low, the entire grill, frame and all, caught on fire a second time. This was the last time we used the grill. We were able to put the fire out with minor incident. My friend helping put it out was burned. We contacted Sears about the grill since it is under a year old. Sears sent out 3 repairmen. We have been told that the grill caught on fire because we used meat on it and it is not designed for anything with fat content even though the manual shows that it is a standard grill designed for meat and fish products. In response to the burn marks on the frame, Sears has notified us that although it appears the frame has been on fire, they have no way to prove we did not light the external part of the frame on fire ourselves. We are obviously done with Sears on this product, but we are more concerned that owners of this grill will face potentially dangerous situations when using it. The frame appears to be structurally unsound in that is cannot handle the heat of a grill.
