The product, in the report: Weber Spirit E-435 Gas grill Liquid propane
We were grilling on a Weber grill and our 2 yr old granddaughter almost touched the hot grease in the drip tray. The back of this Weber E-435 grill is totally exposed and very unsafe. I have reached out to Weber and they are not interested in helping it become safer. They have given me multiple different options (put the grill against the house, which is not safe or to cover the grill, which you can not while its cooling) none that are logical. They also told me that is just the design for that grill. I have had many other Weber grills and the backing was always covered. I would not have purchased this $700 grill knowing it was uncovered and unsafe. I feel this product should be recalled and fixed before any child gets hurt. I have opened many cases with Weber but they are not willing to help find a simple solution.

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit 2 Burner Gas Grill and 20 LP Tank
The consumer purchased a brand new, assembled gas grill and pre-filled 20 lb. LP Tank from a local home improvement store. The consumer and a friend transported the grill to the consumers residence and set it up in the consumer backyard. The consumer and her 17-year-old son attached the grill’s hose to the LP tank and lit the grill. The LP tank shot out a flame and self-ignited. The fire spread to underneath the grill. The consumer’s 17-year-old son attempted to put out the flames using a garden hose but was unsuccessful. They called 911 and moved to another area of the backyard.

First aid Made Jul 1, 2025, sent to the company Jul 3, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 18, 2025
The product, in the report: Weber Genesis II grill
I burned quite badly my right hand fingertips on the cover plate of the side burner on my propane gas bbq grill. Breakdown: I removed the cover from the grill, I opened the bbq lid and turned on the gas at the propane tank. I used the electronic spark button to start the right hand side burners, 3 in total. They were lit and I closed the lid to preheat the unit. After 10 minutes I went to check on the grill. The first thing I noticed was that the stainless steel deck lid over the side burner was warped. It wasnt smoking or of a different color. I put my hand on it to inspect it, and that is when my hand was burned. For reasons unknown, that burner knob was in the open on position and ignited at the same time that the main bbq was started. I suspect that when the cover was removed, it caused the side burner knob to go from off to on position. My concern is that the side burner should not be operational at any time while the deck lid is closed on top of it. There is no safety switch or anything to prevent this from occurring again or to another consumer.

No one hurt Made Jan 30, 2025, sent to the company Feb 12, 2025, published by CPSC Feb 27, 2025
The product, in the report: The product is a Weber Genesis Natural Gas Grill Model SPX-435 (NG). My product’s serial No. is UH0182411. It believe it was manufactured in the US. It was purchased from Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
On November 25, 2024 I purchased a Weber Genesis SPX-345 Smart Gas Grill (Natural Gas). The product was purchased through Lowes.com and was delivered to my home in a sealed box. The product is a natural gas grill but came pre-installed with what I have now learned was a propane gas hose and propane gas regulator, rather than with one intended for natural gas. The regulator was a .5 pound propane regulator; my natural gas line operates at 2 pounds. Had this system remained in place, I faced what ultimately what would have been a serious explosion risk in the use of the product. Additionally, Weber provided the incorrect schematic for the product and the wrong owner’s manual. When I contacted Weber about the problem, they told me it was my fault, not theirs, because there should not have been a regulator on the product. However, the gas line and regulator were preinstalled when the product arrived. I have had a professional plumber inspect and confirm the problem. When I advised Weber that I was going to contact the CPSC its representative said goodbye and hung up on me. I can’t believe that this problem is limited to my gas grill and if it exists on others, it is in my opinion an inherently dangerous situation. I do not know which Weber entity manufactured my grill, but I assume it was either Weber, Inc., Weber-Stephen Products, LLC, or Weber-Stephen Products, Co.

The product, in the report: Weber Summit Grill Model 670
Contacted Weber Grill today concerning a Summit 670 Grill with defective knobs, burners, and other parts. The grill was purchased two years ago and has a full ten-year ALL parts covered warranty. I advised the agent that the defective parts were causing irregular cooking, flare-ups, and inconsistent burner operation. The agent insisted that he needed photos of the defective parts to cover them. This warranty does not indicate that such additional action is necessary. I explained that I was recovering from open-heart surgery and could not physically take the grill apart and obtain pictures. They will not honor the warranty. I am a nationally certified firefighter 2, and I can personally attest that this grill is unsafe to operate with the requested parts.

The product, in the report: Model Name: Spirit II S-310 LP SS Model Number: 45000001 Serial Number: GN6208748 Registration Date: 03-10-2019
While using my Weber Spirit II S-310 LP SS, propane grill, Model Number: 45000001, I heard a hissing noise several minutes after starting the grill. I immediately reached down to turn off the propane at the cylinder and the leaking propane ignited burning my arm. The fire department was called and turned off the gas and extinguished the grill. The fire department inspected the propane tank and found no leaks. This occurred March 25, 2023. I had been using this grill for several months with this tank. The connection from the propane tank to the grill was inspected at connection with soapy water. The hose was replaced through Weber in 2021 when I discovered the hose was leaking at the regulator. I contacted Weber in 2021 and the hose was replaced in 2021. I had used the grill in excess of 5 times since connecting the propane tank to the grill. I contacted Weber and provided pictures, the serial number, and the report from the fire department. The offered to replace the hose again. I feel the grill is not safe to use. It appears to me that other parts of the grill were affected by the flame and heat. I am not comfortable using this grill with only replacing the hose.

The product, in the report: Weber Summit E-470 Gas Grill
I own a Weber Summit E-470 Gas Grill purchased on 3/1/2021. When turning the grill off the knob split where it connects to the gas valve and was just spinning and not allowing me to turn the gas off. I was able to turn the gas off by the valve on the bottle.
There are 4 of these knobs on this grill, i removed the other 3 and you can see that these are also starting to crack.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis II-E ... 335 NG BBQ grill
My family was preparing to use our Weber Genesis II BBQ grill on our back deck, and turned the heat on high to preheat the grill. We left the lid closed. Went inside to prepare the meat, and a few minutes later the entire grill was on fire. We reported this to Weber, and they told us that the grill “must” not have been cleaned. In fact, we had cleaned the grill recently. I’m a 43 year-old and I’ve been grilling for 20+ years. I know how to clean a grill as I’ve owned quite a few in my life. I’ve NEVER had such a scary incident happen. I believe that Weber has created a product that is unreasonably difficult to keep clean and/or easily catches on fire even when mostly clean.

No one hurt Made Nov 8, 2022, sent to the company Nov 25, 2022, published by CPSC Dec 9, 2022
The product, in the report: Weber Summit Grill burner knobs.
There is a potential deadly issue with the plastic grill burner knobs on the Weber Summit Grill . The burner knobs operate to turn the gas on and off for each burner. 3 of the 6 knobs have cracked on our grill, so they no longer work to turn the gas on or off for the burner, they simply spin freely without turning the gas flame up or down, on or off. It becomes a deadly issue if the knob DOES work to turn the gas on, but then the knob cracks after turning it on and will not work to turn the gas off and therefore the gas could accumulate in the grill and create an explosion hurting or killing someone. This product should be made of some type of metal that will not crack like the current plastic knobs. Weber offered to send new burner knobs, but that does not solve the issue since the new ones are also made of plastic. I am very concerned someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed by a gas explosion from failing (cracked) burner knobs.

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 15, 2021, sent to the company Nov 17, 2021, published by CPSC Dec 2, 2021
The product, in the report: Weber Q 1200 Serial Number AEO337878 Model Q1200 part # 5101001
Purchased Weber Q 1200 BBQ in May of 2020. I was barbecuing on November 10, 2021 and was just preparing to remove the meat from the grill when I heard a loud pop, then huge flames erupted. This was the second time BBQing on this propane tank. The flames were huge, and it lit my [REDACTED] sweatshirt on fire. I quickly removed my sweatshirt and fought the fire in my bra. I sprayed water from the hose, but the fire was just getting larger. I ran inside to obtain fire extinguisher and salt, and came out to an even bigger flame. Fearing it would light my house on fire, I kicked the BBQ away from the house and then used salt. Being scared and shaking, I knew I had to somehow disconnect the propane tank from the BBQ (since it was only used 1 time prior and it was a full tank). I grabbed a towel, and metal shield to block the flames and attempted to loosen the tank - causing huge flames as it separated and fell to the ground. Once that occurred, it finally started to burn out and a few more sprays with the hose put it out.

The product, in the report: Weber Q1200 Gas Grill
I mistakenly started up my Weber Q1200 gas grill without opening up the plastic side tables. The side tables caught fire and melted into the grill. When I opened the lid big flames shot out. The only damage was the destruction of the grill. However it was a big fire, and, since I live in the dry hills of Oakland California it could have started a major blaze during fire season. Although the manual contains many warnings, there is no warning about this flaw.
I believe this is an unsafe design. There should be clear warnings or, better, it should not be possible to light the grill with the side tables still inside the grill.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis II S-335 66006001 UPC 77924083969 3 Burner natural gas fueled barbecue Grill. Free standing,
I purchased a new Weber Genesis Grill. When squatting down to retrieve an item from the shelf, the door, which had rested against my leg lacerated me as I stood. This grill model Genesis S335 replaced a previous, similar model. The previous model folded over the metal door and tack welded the steel. The new item lacks that final fold, and leaves exposed multiple edges of .025” steel, with no radius on the corners, and creating multiple knife sharp edges. They cut real well!

The product, in the report: Weber part number 83156 (Catch pan kit), belonging to Weber Genesis II E-310 Gas Grill (model number 61010001, serial number DW 5022256).
Sharp edges on Weber part number 83156 (Catch pan kit) resulted in a 1 inch hand laceration (left hand, index finger) during cleaning; the laceration required 4 stitches due to its depth and location. In addition, the same part resulted in a minor cut (equivalent to a “paper cut”) moments later during in the opposite hand (right hand, thumb).
The part number identified above was removed from a Weber Genesis II E-310 gas grill (model number 61010001, serial number DW 5022256 ) for cleaning. As the items was being cleaned in a kitchen sink with a sponge and soap, one of the sharp edges along the outer edge of the sheet metal catch pan cut through my index finger (along the side of side of the finger at the proximal interphalangeal joint). After the bleeding was controlled, I returned to move the catch pan out of the sink and while simply grabbing the item (from the end opposite of the initial incident), it resulted in a minor cut in my opposite hand (thumb).
I went to an urgent care medical facility approximately 1 hour after the incident, due to the continued bleeding in the left hand, in order to seek medical attention; while at the urgent care facility, I received 4 stitches due to the depth and location of the laceration. In addition to the stitches, the wound requires wearing a finger splint for 10 days (due to the location of the laceration).

A fire started outside in the back of a home. FD responded. No sign of fire or smoke inside the house. The home owner said he tried to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but the extinguisher did not operate. The fire started under the grill around the gas bottle. The gas hose was burned through on our arrival with fire burning freely under the grill. The grill was a Weber three burner.

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit II e-310 Grill
We purchased this grill in May 2018 and used it throughout the summer season without a hitch. We loved it. It was great. During the winter months, we had it stored in the garage. Memorial Day weekend this year (2019) we brought it out of the garage, thoroughly cleaned it inside and out and began using it again this season. I’d say between last summer and this May/June we have used the grill maybe 20-25 times total. This past weekend, my husband was preheating the grill and within 5 minutes we smelled an awful burning smell. We opened up the grill and flames were everywhere. It was totally on fire. After turning off all the burners, we closed the lid to try to have the fire burn itself out. Nope. That didn’t work. Flames began shooting out the bottom of the grill (where the drip pan is). Keep in mind, the drip pan had been changed out the night prior. There was ZERO grease in it. This was not a grease fire. After a minute of panic that the entire unit was going to catch flames and light the propane tank on fire, we opened up the lid and doused the entire grill in baking soda. THANK GOD it put the whole fire out. The inside of the grill is destroyed. The cookbox is melted in several locations and melted to the drip pan. The flavorizor bars are destroyed and look like they are disintegrating and rusty now. The cooking grates are peeling and rusty looking. The entire grill except for the stand and propane tank are RUINED.

Went out to grill lunch. My Weber grill would not ignite I went to open the door and reached my hand to check The tank and flames shot out at me. I don’t remember much after that. My left side of my face and arm were burned. The ER said I was lucky that I was so quick to get away from the flames.
I must note that I contacted Weber a few times in the past two years about issues with the igniter. There must be something up with it. Please look into this. I do not want someone else to be injured.

The product, in the report: 2-burner BBQ Grill
On July 1, 2018, I bought a Weber Spirit E210, 2-burner BBQ at Ace Hardware in Jackson, Wyoming. For a variety of reasons, including the fact I have a larger, [REDACTED]grill, I did not used it very often. However, whenever I did use it to BBQ a whole chicken, grease seeped everywhere, and as the grease ran down its sides, it dripped onto, and burned, my deck. (I am enclosing 4 photographs .) Last summer, I was preoccupied with other matters, stopped using the grill, and did not contact Weber or the CPSC.
As we got prepared for this summer season, we thoroughly cleaned the grill. But when I BBQed another whole chicken, I had the same result - grease went everywhere . So, we cleaned it again, this time getting it as clean as it was when it was “brand-spanking new.” Then I grilled another whole chicken, and again, lots of grease ran down its sides, and dripped onto my deck.
Accordingly, I called Weber’s customer service line. The representative asked for photographs; I sent the ones attached hereto, and after he looked at them, he called and said, “when you BBQ fatty things, that will happen; it is normal and to be expected.”
I responded: First, there wasn’t much fat on any of those chickens, as I always remove the fat before BBQing. WAY MORE IMPORTANT : Weber should not manufacture a BBQ that gushes grease when someone grills a chicken - I suspect, one of the most commonly grilled items .
Because I was taken aback at his response; I asked to speak to his supervisor and was transferred to her. She essentially said the same thing he had.
When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she said her supervisor had left for the day but would call me the next morning . She didn’t!
It took a week before she finally called. When she did, she agreed there was a problem and said she would ship me a replacement unit, which has a slightly newer design, I said that would probably work and went to Ace to see how the new model differed from mine. The newer model has two wheels - mine has four and I need four - so I told her I would pay the difference and upgrade to the next model (a [REDACTED]), and that’s what I did. When I told the Customer Service Manager, she told me she would arrange tor Ace to refund my purchase price, pick up my Spirit, and destroy it. I was shocked and said, 11 DESTROY IT! Don’t you want to inspect it and see why it leaks grease?” “No,” she replied.
My Spirit (and perhaps others) is extremely dangerous and I cannot believe Weber doesn’t want to inspect it and figure out why so much grease escapes. Maybe it wasn’t assembled properly (that was done by Ace), perhaps it has a faulty part, etc .? But SIGNIFICANTLY MORE WORRISOME : why does Weber want it to be destroyed without inspecting it? ASAP, NO LESS!
As an aside : two weeks ago, we had some young families and their kids over for dinner, and although I used the larger [REDACTED to BBQ, I realized those kids could easily have been seriously burned if I had been using the Spirit and they touched it. Consequently, I contacted you.
I hope the Consumer Product Safety Commission will look into this matter - indeed, inspect the Spirit and determine if mine is the only one with an issue or if all 2-burner E210s need to be recalled.

I have burned my fore arm twice now. Still haven’t learned yet I guess. Looking at the new E-310 weber models I see they have moved the LP Tank to the put side. Is there any recalls on this yet?

Weber Genesis gas (propane grill) started up and within 5 minutes of operation the hose just downstream of the regular failed and propane was coming from the hose. The fire continued for several minutes until a small extinguisher was used to extinguish and get close enough to the valve so it could be shut off.
The concern is the flexible hose and regulator are attached to a metal pipe that feeds the ignitors. The rubber hose is in a area that is subject to thermal damage from other metal parts below the grill box. Newer models I understand are separated from the grill box by a piece of sheet metal and some distance. Realistically there’s no easy way to shut off the gas since its also located right by the connection to the grill.
Of course the manufacture initially suggested it was probably the gasket on the propane container and also said they didn’t like those propane tanks with the gauges on the outside. Turns out both were ok. Then they suggested it was a grease fire that caused it, but I doubt that as well. The location of the hose and regulator are to close to the heat source are of combustible construction and potential problems are endless. Bad design that was incorporated now

The “catch tray” under the gas burner has caught fire twice. I believe it is much too close to the flames of the burners. The grill was only used twice after cleaning the tray. The previous design was a deep tray witch kept the tray away from the flames. I will never feel comfortable using this grill without cleaning the tray first. It is at best very poor design, impractical and most importantly a fire hazard. I called customer service at Weber Grills and they took my information, told me this was a new tray designed for 2017, and told me they Have not any other complaints of this issue, however I think it’s very dangerous design, The grill model is Weber spirit E310

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit Gas Grill (3 Burner)
In September of 2016 I was grilling outside my house using my Weber Spirit Gas Grill (Serial Number NT6307550). I went inside for a moment to get a plate and when I came out I smelled burning plastic. I opened the grill and didn’t see anything awry but noticed that there was a flame shooting out of the gas supply line leading from the propane tank to the burners. I immediately turned off the gas at the propane tank and extinguished the fire. Upon examination I found that the ignition switch and one of the burner knobs had melted, dripped onto the gas supply line and eaten through it such that it developed a pinhole leak. This happened in the span of 2-5 minutes. I’ve dutifully cleaned and service this grill (purchase in September of 2008) and never had any issues. I’ve reported what happened to Weber but have not heard a response. I googled what had happened and found other people mentioning their igniter switch had malfunctioned and melted the entire assembly as it appears to have done for me. There appears to be a defect and this could have been catastrophic had I not been able to turn the gas supply off.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis 310 gas barbecue grill for use with natural gas permanent hookup.
Gas Weber grill has three knobs on it to control the gas on the front. The knobs are extremely easy to turn. They need to be pushed to turn, but with the knobs on the front the grill cover will easily push them in. In the wind the cover moves and turns the knobs on. We have found our gas grill on many times when we uncover it, and it is connected to the house natural gas line. We will be outside and smell gas and immediately go to the grill. The knob design in unsafe. I contacted Weber about the problem and they sent me a new grill cover because they thought that was the problem, but it is not. The knob design is terrible and requires almost no effort to turn them on.

I purchased a Spirit grill from Home Depot three months ago. On two (2) separate occasions, for two (2) separate family members, after putting on the Weber grill cover, there was a strong smell of propane. The gas knobs turned to the open position, without our knowledge.
Fortunately, we smelled the gas and were able to turn the gas off.
Since the propane tank is internal to the grill and behind a cover, access is limited for turning the gas tank valve off.
Please advise on how to avoid this potentially serious problem

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis 310 CNG grill
My Weber Genesis 310 CNG gas grill supply line caught fire on Sunday. The grill was completely destroyed and minor damage occurred to my home. The grill was not in use at the time and had not been in use for roughly 36 hours.
As you can see, the grease is empty, the cookbox is relatively clean, and the origin of the fire is very clearly on the outside at the gas line. You can also see the melted wheel on the left side, which indicates the gas hose where it was near the ground was on fire.
This is a defective gas line that seems to have started leaking underneath the cover. The combustion pattern is consistent with a gas accumulation under the cover below the velcro constraints beneath the side shelves. Splay patterns and flame spread are consistent with a fire point of ignition to the rear of the grill and in the gas line on the outside of the cabinet but roughly 2’ from the supply line on the house.
Weber states the supply line leaking from the center of the line was due to being left under pressure. The line, however, is designed to maintain pressure. ASTM standard indicates it should handle 105 psi for 10,000 service hours. The gas in my house is 0.26psi and the grill was installed approx. 8,900 hours prior. The line is installed per code and is a butyl core line, wrapped in corrugated steel, and covered in polyethylene. This is a clear defect. A storm was in the area, so ground static was high at the time. Weber states that this is an “act of nature”, but a gas line that’s not leaking won’t ignite even under direct flame impingement.
The product is unsafe and Weber refuses to either honor the warranty, replace the grill, or deal with the problem.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis S-330 outdoor gas cooking grill
I spoke to [REDACTED] by telephone. Mr. [REDACTED] told me that he was attempting to light a Weber gas barbecue grill on the deck and had just connected a new propane tank to the grill. Mr. [REDACTED] stated that he did not hear any sounds indicating a gas leak after opening the valve of the cylinder. He attempted to light the grill with the built-in igniter but was unsuccessful. He knelt down in front of the grill and opened the cabinet doors to check the connections. While he was kneeling in front of the grill, he opened a burner valve and pushed the igniter button. He stated that the grill “blew up in his face.” Mr. [REDACTED] stated that he had owned the grill for approximately 1 ½ years, and had no previous problems with it.
After consideration of data collected for fire cause determination, and using the overall methodology by applying the scientific method as discussed in the 2014 edition of “NFPA 921- Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigation,” it is my opinion that the fire originated in the barbecue grill on the exterior deck on the east side of the structure. The ignition source for the fire was a spark from the electronic igniter on the grill. The first fuel ignited was uncontained flammable gas (propane) from a source other than normally intended at the burner, possibly due to a leak or improper connection at or near the container or piping. The factors that brought the ignition source and the first fuel ignited together were the unintentional actions of a person or persons. Using these elements, the classification of fire cause is ACCIDENTAL.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis E-330 gas grill (propane) Serial number 0933932
We awoke this morning to a very strong smell of propane gas. While covering the Weber Genesis E330 grill on the deck yesterday after use we apparently bumped one of the burner controls, turning it on. Gas was emitted all night. A spark, perhaps a static spark from clothing, could have touched off an explosion and fire. This is the second time this has occurred. We believe that the burner controls are too easily turned on in such a situation and are extremely dangerous. We believe that there should be a positive stop of the controls in the off position that would require some explicit action to overcome. This event, and the previous occurrence, scared us deeply. We believe this to be a design flaw and a very serious safety risk.

The Bottom fell out of my Weber Genesis Silver A Grill on (8/23/15). Burning debris was scattered over my wooden deck. I was able to put the fire out using a garden hose, but my deck has numerous burn marks. Weber was contacted on (8/24/15). A full set of pictures and an explanation was furnished to them via email on (8/31/15). I can furnish a copy of that correspondence - Basically, it shows that rails that attach the bottom of the burn box which are used to slide in/out a bottom hopper-like piece, are spaced to far apart to properly secure this bottom piece. This, I consider to be a design flaw. The Weber representatives [REDACTED], in a subsequent telephone conversation (8/31/15), did not acknowledge this as being a problem, saying that age was the issue, not design. [REDACTED] offered to replace the rails for free even though they were only warrentied for 2 years. My response was that I didn’t think that that would solve the design issue.
I asked to speak to a Supervisor and was referred to [REDACTED]. We covered much the same ground. He indicated that in addition to the rails, I might need to replace the bottom pan. I would have to buy the pan. If the rails were to be furnished to me for free, I would have to sign a product liability wavier. At this point, I suggested that I believed the problem was serious and perhaps the Consumer Product Safety Agency should be contacted. At no place in the Owners Manual, does it suggest that there could be a safety issue relating to parts of the grill aging and warping or that inspection for this problem should be carried out by the owner. Basically, they denied that the product was at fault and any damage caused to my deck was not their fault. I would be must happy to furnish a copy of the email correspondence with Weber.

Upon touching the hose near the regulator propane started spewking out and ignited. Flames burned off hair on right arm and face. Turn off gas with fire proof mitt. Contacted Weber and sent pictures. They claim fault was due to faulty tank. Don’t believe it. Suspect bad regulator. Weber is providing replacement parts.

Weber Grill Model SP-310. When grilling and lid is open, user can easily burn hand when reaching to close the lid. I have burned my hand twice since purchasing this grill a month ago. I owned a previous Weber grill (Genesis 1000) which was designed so that the handle extended sufficiently beyond and below the lid, and the user would grab the handle without touching the hot lid. This problem on the newer SP-310 model could be fixed by Weber engineering by designing a replacement handle which would extend lower over the lid, allowing the user to grab the handle without touching the lid. I strongly hope that Weber will either recall this and similar models, or provide a revised handle that users can self-install to prevent burns. (Weber customer service informed me that their manual states that users should wear over mitts when using the grill, which is an unreasonable expectation and precaution).

Caller stated that the grill knobs are easily turned on without anyone’s knowledge which can cause an explosion. He was putting the cover on the grill and in the process it turned the knobs on. The next morning the entire area had an overwhelming smell of gas.
(10/13)The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that they are aware of it and he would have to turn off the gas at the source not at the knob. He feels that a consumer should be able to power off the grill at the knob and that the option of turning off at the source is not relevant. The unit is not designed for safety and should be looked into.

The product, in the report: Weber Titanium Cast-Aluminum 2-Burner (21,700-BTU) Liquid Propane Gas Grill
At approximatly 3 pm, I turned on my Weber gas grill to preheat for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, I heard a crash and went outside to investigate and found my grill tipped over and on fire. After calling the fire department, the grill exploded, sending a ball of flames up the side of my house, setting the house on fire. There were two explosions that followed.
After the fire was put out, I inspected the grill, finding that the bottom of the body of the grill had melted, which caused the grill to tip over in the first instance. I note that the grill was two years old and clean. Also, the grease pan had been replaced less than 8 weeks ago and the grill had undergone light use during that period.
Based on the manufacturers specifications, the grill body was made of aluminum, which has a melting point of 1400 degrees. I stongly suspect that the body is not, in fact, made of aluminum, but rather tin which has a melting point of 500 degree. There is no other explanation that I can descern since is it clear that it was the melting of the body that caused the grill to collapase and later igntire the propane tank.

Homeowner had purchased this Weber Genesis propane grill online from Lowes around July 4, 2014. He stated that he had used it approximately 6 times since he had purchased it. Homeowner and his wife both stated that at least three out of the six times the grill was used they could hear a hissing noise coming from the connection between the gas hose and the tank. On the night of the fire very shortly after lighting it to cook dinner, they noticed it on fire. The homeowner noticed the flames had traveled down from the burners towards the propane tank. Homeowner extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher prior to FD arrival. No injuries, but the grill did suffer fire damage.

I’ve owned this Weber Spirit Grill for about 5 years. Always kept it out of the weather and in good condition. A couple days ago we had just started grilling and got the grill up to temp and had just but burgers on it. We went to turn the burgers down and notice the gas flow control knobs were melted flat to the control panel. We took a look underneath and the valves under the knobs just above the propane tank were spewing in flames! the fire was right at the main propane supply hose to. Another minute or so and this could have been a lot bigger incident if we hadnt went to turn the temp down when we did because when the supply line burned through it would have taken the whole tank with it with my niece standing right next to it!! I looked it up and the same exact thing is happening to lots of these same grills. Once I saw that it was not a matter of seeking replacement parts to fix this grill that should have had another 5 years of life left at least. Me and my families safety is not worth it. I’ll just buy a different brand.

The product, in the report: Genesis E-330 LP Gas Grill As part of the Genesis E series, the E-330 gas grill has a front-mounted control panel with three stainless-steel burners and an individual electronic ignition system. The unit offers a 38,000 BTU per hour input, and its total capacity consists of 637 square inches of cooking space (a 507-square-inch primary cooking area and a 130-square-inch warming rack). For added cooking space and delicious searing, the grill supplies a 12,000-BTU side burner and a 10,000-BTU Sear Station burner. The unit also includes porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates, an enclosed cart, and a porcelain-enameled shroud with a built-in thermometer. Even more, it comes with porcelain-enameled Flavorizer bars, porcelain-enameled heat deflectors, six tool hooks, two heavy-duty front-locking casters, and two heavy-duty back swivel casters. Requiring an LP tank to operate (not included), the gas grill measures 30 inches long by 60 inches wide by 64-1/2 inches high. Weber covers the grill with a five-year limited warranty.
Weber gas grill, has caught on fire twice. When I call Weber they advised me to clean grill as I told them I do a yearly tare apart clean every season and of course the grill and drip plates every other time used. They advised me it had to be cleaned every time, which I was confused by since this is not a cheap gas grill and cost over 900 dollars. The first time they replaced certain parts of my grill and it has happened again just the other day and the grill was clean but the dripping of the current cooking would catch fire underneath in the pan. I asked Weber if there was a recall for my grill which I think is the 330 model and they told me no. I am very disappointed in this grill as I heard Weber is the best but I have found a cheap grill from [REDACTED] did not ever need this type of attention for daily use even.

The product, in the report: Weber genesis e-series 2013 gas grill
2013 Weber genesis gas grill knobs turn on too easily when putting cover on grill causing gas leak. There is little resistance to turn the knob like on other gas grills or stoves. I store my grill near an air intake vent for my furnace room, so when the gas is accidentally turned on, the gas leaks into my basement near the furnace creating a potentially dangerous situation.
I try to remember to turn the gas off on the grill after each grilling session, but on three occasions have forgotten and smelled gas in my basement soon thereafter. I’m afraid one of these times the gas will ignite. I have seen other reports online about this and weber customer service just recommends remembering to turn the gas off at the source each time. Seems like some sort of recall to make the knobs harder to turn is in order.

The knobs on our gas barbeque turn on so easily that putting the barbeque cover over the grill can turn the gas on. Most gas grills require pushing the knobs in before they will turn on, howver ours turn on with almost imperceptible depression of the knob. Several times, we have discovered the gas on, hours and even days after using the grill when we smelled the gas. I have contacted the maufacturer. Their response is that the gas should be turned off at the tank after each use. While this may be true, I don’t think many people turn the gas off at the tank each time they use their barbeque. I believe the safety features of a gas grill should be more passive, such as depressing the knobs before they turn on.

The next time I used the grill there was gas leak at the black plastic connector. I reconnected the tank several times but could not stop the leak. I connected another tank. There was no leak. The next time I used the grill it leaked. I reconnected several times and could not stop the leak. I called the Weber service center and they told me they would send me a new connector and regulator to fix the problem. I think Weber has a serious safety problem with these connectors. The service rep. was not surprised at the failure of the connector or that there were gas leaks. I can send you the failed connector for testing.

Gas leaking around Hose and Regulator on a Weber Genesis B series gas grill. The at issue part is the black plastic connector that screws onto the propane tank. Weber part #307502.
The black plastic connector has cracked allowing propane to seep out through the crack. This seems like a serious potential fire hazard. I informed Weber customer service about it. They seemed unconcerned and simply suggested that I order a replacement. I think there is a significant chance that this could hurt someone.

The product, in the report: Weber liquid gas freestanding outdoor grill - 2 burner
On Saturday, July 6, 2013 we used our new weber grill for only the 4th time since purchase from Lowes in Egg Harbor Twsp, NJ on May 25, 2013.
We turned it on, the automatic igniter lit and we let it warm up for about 2 minutes. Upon putting 2 steaks on the grill, the entire grill became engulfed in flames. The fire was shooting out from under the grill where the b ase of the burners were located and where the propane tank was stored. Meanwhile the steaks were located on the grill and the fire shot out the sides of the grill......it was not a grease fire.
The fire began burning a coating of metal material from inside the grill which emitted billowing gray smoke for at least 5 minutes. It was noxious.
It billowed into the neighborhood and made me sick. A friend ran forward and turned off the propane using the knob located on the front. I thought the grill was going to explode on my deck and kill us.My husband said the temperature gauge was at the manimum of 600 degrees. It could have been hotter.
After the supply to the propane was shut off, the grey smoke continued to billow out.
Upon cooling, I noticed the inside of the grill which was supposed to be stainless steel was turned a medium brown color which did not rub off like soot.
I read tonight online that the grill grates are coated with something to promote flavor.Whatever that was it is completely burned off.
I was really scared and have owned a grill for 40 years. This type of incident has never happened.
The design of the grill is such that there is no bottom to the housing...essentially the housing consists of 2 sides and a lid which you pull shut With no iron or other metal barrier between the propane tank and the burners directly above - the grill looks like a fire hazard. There are 3 removable teepe shaped metal parts which are to be cleaned periodically located directly under the burners. These were covered black.
Again the material burning and billowing out gray smoke was not grease from new steaks just put on.
Thank you for listening. [REDACTED]

I was preheating the grill to get ready to cook. Went into the house to get the meat to put on the grill and noticed the flames shooting out from under the control panel. Had to turn the gas off in order to be the flames to stop shooting out toward the second knob which was totally melted. This is the second time this has happened. The first time I thought maybe I needed to clean the gas tubes and replaced the regulator hose thinking it was the hose. Obviously it was neither the tubes or the regulator. It is frustrating as the first time I called Weber, I told them what had happened and all the lady said was what parts do you need. Didn’t even acknowledge that there was a a potentially dangerous fire.

The product, in the report: Gas grill
My Weber Spirit 310 grill caught on fire yesterday, 5/27/2013. It was not a grease fire. The fire was under the control knob area and the flames were coming out of the manifold area. I was able to carefully reach under, avoiding the flames and turn off the gas supply. The flames went out immediately when the gas was shut off. Fortunately, I saw the fire before it burned through the gas supply hose. The fire burned the control knobs, the ignition wiring and the gas supply hose from the gas fuel tank.
I contacted Weber and they asked me to send photos, which I have done. I can send those to you as well, if you need them. I am concerned that this is a safety issue that could result in a home fire, or possibly an explosion if other consumers experience the same issue.

I got a Weber grill Spirit E-210 from Home depot November 2012. The grill was functioning fine until April 2013. The first incident occurred in April 2012. The grill stopped heating up. I called Weber, and their technical support instructed me to run some test in the grill. The maximum heat was 100 Celcium. Weber technical support made me run test: I was testing the grill for liking gas, disconnecting and connecting the gas nozzle and valves several times, turning on and off the grill several times, etc. I always keep the grill clean because I notice that the meat fat accumulate in the tray. After several times calling weber, they finally sent me a gas regulator to solve the problem. I also told weber that before this incident I noticed some flares ups in the grill which I was concerned. Later, I installed the new gas regulator, and I the temperature in the grill did not raise. It was the same 100 calcium. I called them again, and weber told me that if that regulator is not working they would send another and another after it is work. Second incident, May 2012, yesterday May 4, 2013. I tested the grill again, and it is seem that works. I do not know why but it started heat up and raising the temperature above 100 calcium. So, we bought steak, asparagus, and mushrooms. I noticed that it raised all the way to the maximum, which is 600 calcium, and I since it is the maximum temperature that display the thermometer, I do not know if the temperature were higher. I moved the control knob to minimum because after 3 minutes started to burn the steaks I put on the grill. The temperature never came down and on the contrary started flares started to rise. The fire started to raise a height of 2. or 2.5 feet approximately. I felt the intensity of the fire in my face, my eyes, my body. I immediately call for help to put the fire down. My partner approached to see, and grabbed the fire extinguisher. He sprayed all around the grill to put the fire down. The weber grill is located in the patio of our condo, and it was about to burn out the condo. I am very disappointed with this weber grill and with weber corporation because I already told them about this grill, and the fact that it is defective since the beginning. Last time I spoke to them before this incident, and they seemed really reluctant to accept that the grill is defective. I even spoke to the general manager of weber [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and he told me that the grill is really safe and it have several safety mechanism that prevent accidents. I told [REDACTED] that I was afraid of testing this grill with the weber technician by phone because they made me turned the gas on/off, disconnecting/connecting the gas, and turning in again. Now I know that the gas is completely defective, and I could have burned out or die testing this defective product. This grill sometimes does not heat up, and now burst in flames almost burning the condo. I want my money back. I do not want Weber to send me more replacing gas regulators or parts as they did with the gas regulator because I believe the regulator they sent it is worst than the one I had before. The flare were super high reaching about 2 feet long and when I tried to turn off the control knob did not shut up the big flares and fire. I even burned my hand while trying to save the expensive 50 dollars steaks my partner bought from steak house market. The asparagus and mushroom and the steak were completely ruin by the fire extinguisher chemicals. Now the grill is all covered in the the white chemical.

Weber grill: Weber Genesis Silver Was cooking a steak, preheated the grill using the auto ignite, and turned on all three burners. I left the grill for 10 minutes, can came back to place the steaks on the grill, no problems. I left the grill for another 5 minutes, and came back to flip the steaks, no problems. I left the grill for another 3 minutes and came back to check on the steaks and the center dial on the grill (not the auto-ignite) was mostly melted and on fire. I shut off the propane tank and put the fire out with sand. Then let the grill cool, and removed the tank.

The product, in the report: Natural gas grill.
I own a Weber 310 natural gas grill. Several times when I put the Weber grill cover back on the unit, it bumps the burner knobs and turns the gas on. This has happened three times since owning the grill. This last time it was on for over 24 hours. It’s winter and I just happened to go out back where the grill is and got a strong odor of gas. I called Weber and they said it is not a manufacturing defect. While it not be a defect, it certainly is a safety problem. The knobs turn very easy. There is no locked position. My past grill, it was required to push down to unlock and then turn. These just turn and once the cover is on there is no way to tell if the burners are on. Weber says to turn off my natural gas supply to the grill when it’s not in use. While this is the fix to stay safe, it is not practical.

The product, in the report: WEBER Barbecue, Model: GENESIS E320 The Color is Steel and Black
In May 2012, we purchased a Webber (Genesis E320) from Home Depot. We soon noticed that the “grease tray” which is supposed to direct away the grease into the waste container, has a few design flaws. 1. The Grease Tray was not properly directing the grease away and into the waste container; causing the grease to remain in the tray. 2. Grease Tray was located too close to the heat source; causing the grease to burn and make gross smelling smoke.
We had to manually clean the grease tray after each use since the grease was not led to the waste container.
On Wednesday September 12, we grilled 2 T-bone steaks. The meat had some fat and the drips were creating some smoke. I opened the BBQ to check the meat and suddenly the whole BBQ went on “FIRE”!!! I am pregnant (on a high risk pregnancy) and I was totally shocked and scared. I turned off all the keys and shut the door and turned to run inside to inform my husband. But as I turned I caught into a chair and fell on the ground. My 7 year old daughter just opened the door and called for help. My husband helped me move away and got the fire extinguisher and turned off the fire. Although he also burned the palm of his hand as the handle was too hot and the fire was everywhere.
We are totally frustrated to be sold an “unsafe” product which has a fire safety issues. We would like to get our money back and also an investigation be issued on the safety of this product and a possible “RECALL”.

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit Gas Grill Model E-210
On March 24, 2012, I purchased a Weber Spirit E-210 gas grill for $399.00 (before tax) at the Home Depot store located [REDACTED] Fort Worth, TX 76137 [REDACTED]. In addition, on the same date, I purchased a propane tank pre-loaded with propane gas at the same Home Depot for 43.92 (before tax). I also purchased a long-handled grill brush (9.99 before tax) and a 4-piece BBQ tool set (9.97 before tax).
I used the gas grill on several occasions between the date of purchase and September 9, 2012, and never noticed any problems or had any issues with the grill. However, when I went out to grill two hamburger patties and one link of [REDACTED] sausage on Sunday, September 9, 2012, I heated the grill up and cleaned the grates as I normally do. Once the grill had been pre-heated (about 5 minutes), I placed the food on the grates. I sat out by the grill as I was cooking because I always turn the meat over after it has cooked 6 minutes on the first side. After my food had been on the grill for 5 minutes, I started hearing this “whooshing” sound and jumped up to see what was happening. I went over to the grill and noticed flames were coming out the sides of the cooking area. I was going to open the lid to the grill to alleviate the flames, when I noticed flames were also within the bottom cabinet area (where the propane tank sits). I would have attempted to turn the propane tank off; however there were too many flames within the cabinet area to stick my hand in there. As these few seconds went by, I suddenly heard a loud popping sound, like a firecracker. At that point, it was very clear to me that the grill was about to explode. So I ran into the house and called 911. While I was on the phone with 911 within by kitchen, I heard a loud boom. That’s when the first explosion took place. So I ran out to my front yard to get as far as away from the grill as possible while I was on the phone with the fire department. At that time, I heard a second loud boom while I was on the phone with 911 and told the fire department to hurry. I was fairly certain that the back part of home was going to catch fire from the explosions, but thankfully that did not happen. I was not injured.

The product, in the report: The plastic nut that attaches the fuel hose for the Weber BBQ grill to the propane tank fails by cracking. Model: 228/622xxxx Serial: DO0277836
The connection between a Weber Platinum propane BBQ grill and a 20 pound propane tank failed. I have had 2 such failures this year. In each case the black plastic threaded connector, the nut that connects the supply hose to the tank, failed by cracking apart. I suspect a thermal expansion mismatch between the plastic and the brass parts on the tank. The BBQ is outside, mostly shaded and the connection is in the shade, but subject to daily temperature fluctuations. If you do not notice the crack and turn the tank on propane will leak out creating a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Brand new Weber Genesis S-330
The Weber Genesis S-330 was purchased new from Lowe’s in West Windsor NJ. It was delivered on 08/30 and setup as per instructions in the manual. The regulator leaked as soon as the propane gas tank was opened. Lowe’s was informed the same day and the grill was replaced on 09/01 at around 9 AM. This one did not leak after original installation and passed the soap-solution test. At 6 PM on 9/1 the grill was put to use. After about 30 minutes, the regulator attached to the propane cylinder caught fire, with the fire engulfing the interior of the grill cabinet. The thermal nut did not shut off. The flame kept on increasing for about 6-8 seconds during the time it took to access the grill, get the protection and shut off the tank tap.
Melted plastic is still stuck to the cloth used to shut off the valve and the hand suffered scalds with burnt hair. The regulator periphery has melted.
Hopefully this will be investigated.

Our weber grill (spirit) caught on fire. The fire destroyed the control knobs and the lines from the propane gas to the control knobs. Thankfully, we saw the fire and immediately took the propane gas away and contained the fire. The grill was turned off but the propane gas was not. We are not sure what caused the fire but it could have been out of control if we were not in the immediate area to douse the fire. We only had the grill for two years and used it at least an average of two times during the summer months.
Thank you.

I was going to use my weber grill and smelled gas. I found there wasa hole in the hose which connected to the gas tank. It must have been gnawed at by a squirrel or other animal. Thank goodness I noticed this as it could have exploded! Weber needs to protect the hose with a hard cover. I spoke with them and they said a cover is available but it does not come with the grill. I highly recommend that the hose should with a hard cover on it.

Homeowner was preparing to use grill and heard a hissing sound coming from the valve connection to the propane tank. She tightened it and the hissing worsened. She then loosened it a little and it stopped. She lit the grill and shortly afterword the hissing started again. She once again went to adjust the connection and upon doing so the leaking gas ignited. The homeowner received 1st degree burns to her arm and her hair was burned.
The fire investigation determined that a faulty valve connection from the grill to the propane tank was a result of the incident.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis E-330 Liquid Propane Gas Grill Model 6531001
I have a Weber Genesis grill and was using it a few days ago (5/5/2012). The fuel hose caught on fire which melted the rubber hose. A hole erupted on the hose that then spewed propane out until I was able to shut it off. Upon investigation, I determined that Weber incorrectly assembled the hose. The rubber hose from the propane tank is connected to what they call a bulkhead. From the bulkhead a metal flex tube is connected to route the fuel to the grill and side burner. On this bulkhead they inserted the rubber hose where the metal one should have been. The rubber hose touched the hot grill tray which caused the fire.
I was fortunate, this could have been much worse.
Repeated calls and e-mails to Weber have not been positive. They refuse to accept responsibility which is why I am reporting this issue. I am concerned that there may be other grills with the same issue.
Regards,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: weber genesis 330 natural gas grill
I purchased a Genesis 330 by Weber. I had the same problem as another incident previously posted by another consumer. The knobs on this grill are so light to turn on that when you put the cover on, they turn on by the weight of the cover. This caused the leaking of gas. When I called the companyIi was given a detailed explanation on how to correctly put on a WEBER cover to avoid this problem. I was told I had to hold out the cover so the cover did not touch is sensitve knobs. To me these knobs are a danger waiting to happen. I was not told by Weber that this had been reported previously by a consumer. When I called to ask about this I was told that they knew nothing about the other complaint. I find it hard to believe that a consumer would write a report to you before calling Weber as I did at least 10 times. So, I am wondering if this is a problem that does not comply to safety standards or whether this could create a hazard that the compnay should tell consumers about. I think this should be investigated.

I am a retired doctor and am taking care of the burns myself..I purchased the grill from Lowe’s Home Improvemenmt on Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Atlanta GA and still have the receipt.. I cooked a steak on the grill \using 2 of the 3 burners, and after cooking the steak I shut both burners “off.” After supper and clearing the table, I closed the grill. The grill is expensive, and to protect it from bird-droppings i had purchased the heavy fire-retardent cloth made by Weber specifically for this product.. I put the cover over the closed grill, but it was heavy and hard to handle. I had to tug several times to position the cover over the grill properly. During this time, I suspect the grill cover moved the knob for the Right burner to the “open” positionn. A few hours later I went outside to bring in the dog for the night, and I smelled gas. I removed the grill cover and opened the lid, and found the Right burner to be in the “open” position. I turned the burner knob back to the “off” position, and waited a few moments for the gas to dissipate. I did not want gas contaminating my patio, and to clear the air of any gas remaining, I pushed the “ignite” button. A huge fireball - the size of the top of a card table - burst out of the grill and burned me. If someone else might try to pull the grill cover snugly down over the grill and also unknowingly turn the burner valve to the “open” position, and then if some child thrw a basketball at the grill, or a dog jumped up aganst the grill and pushed the “ignite” button with its foot, or if a senior citizen with a mobility disorder stumbled against the grill and pushed the button, there would be a similar, large, dangerous, and potentially deadly explosion. This a is a very dangerous and potentially life threatening situation and requires urgent immediate, and decisive preventative action by your authority. I have made a copy of this letter and I expect a reply.I will contact my Congressman and the Attorney General for the State of Georgia if one is not forthcoming soon. Very truly yours, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Gas Barbque with cart.
I purchased a new Weber model S310 gas grill and assembled it per the included instructions. During the first several uses I would find that the burner control knobs would come on while doing other tasks. Example grilling for two people and only turning on and starting just one burner and while cooking I would find that one or both of the other burners on and not lit. Also I would find the burner control knobs on while installing or removing the weather protective cover. I now have to double and triple check that the burner control knobs are turned off whenever I am doing any tasks on or around the grill and make sure that the propane is turned off and stays that way until it is to be used and continue checking them while it is in use. I called Weber Customer Service and was told that there is nothing wrong with the shutoff mechanisims. I also went to several stores that sell Weber Gas Grills and looked at 50 different 310 Grills and found that 40 of them operated the same as mine and the burner control knobs would not lock in the off position, but the other 10 would lock and there would be no inadverent unlocking of them. When checking other models of Weber grills I found that they do have very positive locking of their burner controls and there is no inadvertant unlocking possible. So I find that this style of grill is inherently UNSAFE and the potential for an explosion and or fire is very high. I beleive that the the burner control mechanisims should be recalled and replaced, before someone is injured.

The product, in the report: propane grill
I attached a new propane tank to our outdoor grill and turned on the burners, which lit as they were supposed to. However I heard a hissing noise from under the grill so turned off the burners and opened the doors of the cabinet below the grill. A fireball erupted from under the grill and lit my hair on fire, burning my right hand and face. I rolled on the grass to extinguish the fire, luckily wearing nonflammable clothes, and only suffered first degree burns and loss of some hair.

The product, in the report: Weber Genesis E-310 Natural Gas Grill
The incident relates to a new Weber natural gas grill purchased in the spring of 2011. In the ~20 times that we have used the grill and then put the cover back on (which came with the product), on 3 occasions, we have gone to our driveway/out back on the deck only to smell a strong odor of natural gas. Upon further investigation, we have figured out that the gas on the grill was turned on by the cover.. in other words, the amount of pressure needed to move the control knob to open the gas was so minimal, that replacing the cover over the grill was enough to turn it on. We are so lucky that someone did not walk back there with a cigarette, as we would have significant property damage and worse.. the potential for someone to get very hurt! As a Weber grill owner previously (last one we had for 10 years), not once did this happen on our old model!! That said, I am very sad to share the actual correspondence from Weber (below)... who first claims that they recommend that you shut off the gas after each use (although this warning/recommendation is NOT in the owner’s guide), and the secondly, advises me “to be more careful”. Very disappointing for a clear safety issue for their product, and one that clearly was not the same on prior models (where the same event did not occur)
Actual correspondence with Weber Customer Service provided below :

You see, this is very interesting to me being as we just replaced our old Weber of 10+ years with this one. On that one, there was more pressure required to turn the gas on with the control knobs, and not once in 10+ years did putting on the cover EVER turn on a knob. Seems to me that you did have a design that was different.
In addition, in my previous email, I asked for the page # on the owner’s guide that gives this warning. I read through the 20+ warnings and did not come across it. Please advise.
Thanks for putting the blame on the consumer, surely not the customer service or concern I would expect from Weber. In an effort to prevent others from putting their life and property in jeopardy, I will be pursuing this with CPSC with fervor. There is a serious flaw that I am sad to see has not been taken seriously by Weber.

There have been 3 instances in the last 6 months, where we have walked outside in the morning (sometimes days after last using the grill) to the overwhelming smell of gas in the air. Each time we found that one of the control knob had been turned on. We then noticed that when we replace the grill cover, the pull of the cover on these knobs was enough to turn them on (no push and turn or other safety mechanism that prevented them from turning with just this little pressure). So we have determined that the Weber grill cover that we bought with this model, is turning the knobs and opening up the gas line ... causing a very, very unsafe condition... imagine what would have happened had someone innocently walked around the corner of our deck lighting a cigar/cigarette!! We need a solution to this issue, as it is a product safety issue that poses a serious risk to our family and our property. > > Please advise. > > Thanks, > > [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit Gas Grill Model #310, serial # DE1326331
Weber Gas Grill model#310, serial number DE1326331.
Purchased at Home Depot, May 2010.
On Tuesday, October 4th at approximately 5:10pm, the #2 control interface on the grill caught fire, flames shooting up out of the control interface and melting the knob. Owner immediately shut off gas, threw baking soda on control pad and put fire out. Called Wadsworth City Fire Department at approximately 5:20pm. Chief [REDACTED] of the Wadsworth City Fire department inspected the grill. His opinion at the time was a failure of the regulator connected to the control interface. He may be reached at [REDACTED].
Called Weber Grill Company at approximately 6:30pm to report incident. Weber representative attempted to indicate it was the fault of owner for not removing burners and running wire coat hanger through them. Advised them we would file report with CPSC and Consumer Reports.

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit E-310 LP gas grill, model number 4421001
Purchased a Weber Spirit E-310 from Lowe’s in the spring 2011. This commentary is being written in August 2011. I was grilling today and walked away for 3 minutes. The cover was closed. When I returned, the entire grill, grates and everything--were on fire. It was contained internally under the lid, but part of the grill that was on fire was close to the propane tank.
Many of the internal parts were scorched from the heat. If I had not returned within a couple of minutes, the fire was significant enough to potentially burn the grill, cause an explosion or touch the house.
...feeling dumb and lucky.

The product, in the report: Weber Q Model 200 Gas Grill
In my Weber Q gas grill, the fuel tube split open and the insides exploded into flames. Luckily, I had a very small tube of propane fuel attached, had I one of the large containers of propane attached, my deck might have been engulfed in flames. It took about 5-10 minutes before the flames stopped. I contacted Weber and they advised me they would only replace the insides. I feel they should have replaced the entire grill.
This still could have been very dangerous. I was nearby and moved the grill away any wood.

The product, in the report: Weber Spirit Gas Grill, Model #89525, S/N DI6024194. Propane Grill
The other evening, I fired up the Weber Gas Grill and got it warmed up. I turned the heat down once I had preheated it to burn off the crusty things. I put on an ear of corn wrapped in foil to reheat it, and went inside. Looking out the kitchen window as I was preparing to return with some other food stuffs, I notices some flames at the end of the grill where the propane tank is and the burner controls are located. I thought perhaps there was some greasy stuff still on the grill still flaring up.
As I got closer, things did not look right. I looked up under the burner control panel and discovered that the all three burner controls were in flames. They have plastic assemblies that were burning and dripping hot plastic. Somewhat foolishly, I tried to dodge the dripping flaming hot plastic to shut off the propane tank. I did get some flesh burned off a finger from the molten plastic in my pursuit. I eventually got the cylinder off, and slowly the burner controls died down and I blew them out. The controls below are a total loss and the burner knobs are trashed from melting by the heat below.
So from one perspective, no harm (less one burn), no foul as everything was contained. However having a devious mind, the thought occurred to me that many folks have units like this sitting on a wooden deck. The dripping plastic is like flaming tar balls and is burning all the way to the ground. The splat will continue to burn on the surface it hits. Potentially things could get real ugly. We had stone and sand below our unit, so the supplemental fuel source was not a big deal.

The product, in the report: Stainless Steel outdoor Weber gas grill.
Just purchased a new Weber outdoor gas grill to replace my old grill that had served me well for many years. The first time I used it, I received a painful burn on my left palm when it came in contact with the arm that closes the grill top.... Weber spirit gas grill, natural gas #89963 also has BB9012308
I consider this a serious design flaw. My old grill had a stand alone handle design to lift and lower the hood. On the new Weber, the handle merges with the sides of the grill so it is not apparent that you are coming into contact with very hot metal.

This is a copy of an email sent to Weber regarding a fire hazzard with a Genesis grill. FIRE HAZZARD
Weber Genesis Gas Grill s/n DI1656236 purchase date 06/29/07
To Whom It May Concern,
At least early last year I had noticed a large burn mark on the left side frame panel and although I was not happy about the appearance I thought it came about because of the heat from the grill. When I started to use the grill this year, flames started to come up outside the grill between the left side of the grill box and outside burner of the left side of the grill and therefore I shut it down immediately. Upon inspection, I found two holes in the left side of the grill box and contacted your customer service department. After providing a description of the problem they asked me to inspect the burner tubes and the crossover pipe. The conclusion made was that there was a defect in the weld holding the middle tube causing it to come loose and burn a hole in the side of the grill. The offer was made to replace the parts which I appreciate, but taking the entire grill apart is not a job for a layman. In addition, I feel that this is a dangerous condition precipitated by a poor design or weld which could have resulted in bodily injury. I was told that there was not a recall on this product which I will investigate further, and if there is not, I will try to initiate one. I find it difficult to believe that this was a fluke and other consumers could be exposed to possible injury. This is not my first Weber Grill and my other grill is at least twice the age and is still in very good condition. I feel that offering parts to correct a dangerous situation and not offering the labor or a replacement is just a token gesture at best. I have forwarded you the pictures you requested and will also forward the contents of this email to the CSPS.
On March 6, 2007, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission released a memo, Release #07-122, regarding a recall on Weber Gas Grills and a Fire Hazard on a number of grills including the one which I own, model Genesis S-320 3780001. Perhaps this condition should also be reviewed as well. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to resolve this issue at the contact information below.
