The product, in the report: Purchased two gas grills from Viking for outdoor use built in. Model VGBQ5304RE2NSS serial number 060211c00022196 and the identical model serial number 061411c00024098.
Purchased two gas grills from Viking for outdoor use built in. Model VGBQ5304RE2NSS serial number 060211c00022196 and the identical model serial number 061411c00024098. One unit was generally unused since October 2012 installation. The first unit was a problem since installation and a certified Viking service provided initial service after installation in October 2012. Neither unit was used until May 2013 and did not operate well from the beginning. The same Viking repair people came initially in October 2012 and again after non use in the winter in May 2013. The clicking devise did not stop clicking after initial effort to activate grill. Technician replaced the spark modules and the igniters in May but the clicking continued. The unit was used on weekends only from June thru early September. House is vacation weekend summer house. When the used unit was used on Memorial Day weekend in 2014, the result was worrisome. The unit was ignited but the clicking never stopped and there was a fire. The knob was damaged and the unit could not be turned off except by pulling the plug. Since there is another unit on the property although almost never used, we tried to use it and found the same problem with the clicking. Turned off the unit and tried it again to find the clicking stopped at this point. It would seem that the unit or the parts are defective and should be replaced. I called Viking who noted that their 1 year warranty on parts and labor expired. I spoke to the consumer complaint department, noted the fire hazard but was denied access to the supervisor and was told that the supervisor agreed they would do nothing to address this problem. I asked to speak to a technical person but was informed they had no one who could speak to consumers. This product is dangerous and should be replaced with a working grill. It is not fit for its use.
