The product, in the report: Model GBC976W (Gas Grill)

I had a UniFlame gas grill that is about 2.5 years old. The unit was well kept and in good working order. Model GBC976W

While grilling out, I left the grill unattended for 12 minutes. When I came back out I noticed that the grill brush that was 3 inches from the grill was melted. I then looked at the grill temp gage and notice it was complete spiked passed the temp of 750 degrees. The control knobs would not work to turn off the gas flow. I then attempted to turn the gas off at the tank. The tank valve was very hot and I was able to turn of the gas flow.

I reported the issue to Uniflame. They told me that the unit was out of the warranty period. They wanted me to pay almost $100 to replace what they think might be a problem. My concern is since the unit could not have been turned off by the control knobs and the tank was very hot the safety feature should have turn the gas flow off. However since the unit was well over 750 degrees, I’m worried other might not be so lucky.

The product, in the report: Grill Wheels

Consumer stated that his grill is placed on his patio for approximately 3 years without too much sunlight, the wheels (collapsed) separated form the outer portion of the wheel exposing the axel, which cause the grill to become unbalanced. Consumer stated that the weight of this grill could not be supported by these inadequate wheels.

Consumer stated that if a child had been close by this incident may have caused injuries.

8/18/11 Consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that they would send out replacement wheels, he inquired if they had new designed wheels but they would not comment.

Consumer also contacted the retail store and was advise that someone would do a followup.

Consumer feels that this unit is a safety hazard and should be reported.
