The product, in the report: 4 burner, stainless steel gas grill, with side burner and rotisserie searing burner, Kenmore model # 139.01566310, item number 640-04921798-7
A gas grill, sold by Sears, under model number 139.01566310 contains a defectively manufactured part, “Drip tray Assembly”, part # CH3017361. This part is a piece of shaped galvanized stainless steel, acting to catch grease/fat drippings from food during cooking. It also provides a thermal barrier between the burners and the LP tank. Unfortunately, this part, through no fault of the consumer, or lack of maintenance, rusts away and disintegrates, allowing the flame from the burner to be unobstructed within inches of the LP tank. Sears has been made aware of this defect, and the grill has been the subject of a class action. However, Sears refuses to provide a replacement part, or to have a replacement part manufactured to address this defect. When I open the lid of my grill, I can see my LP tank, and have stopped using the grill. The bottom frame of the grill, below the firebox is enclosed so, even the slightest leak of propane, or an improperly tightened hose would result in a catastrophic explosion, due to this failed part. When I attempted to order the part from Sears, the order was taken, money was paid, but Sears had no intention of fulfilling the order - I eventually received a refund. However, Sears does not plan to address the safety issue with this grill.

The product, in the report: Liquid propane gas grill
I have a owned Sears Propane Gas Grill Model 122.16643900 for about 3 years. The peg’s in the back ledge of the firebox, which hold the burners and diffusers in place have rusted away. This causes an unsafe condition as it allows the burners to pull out of the connections in the front of the grill wherein the gas enters the burners. Have had to stop using because the burners have pulled out and allowed fire with going into the burners

No one hurt Made Jun 29, 2012, sent to the company Aug 9, 2012, published by CPSC Aug 23, 2012
The product, in the report: Outdoor Gas Grill Appliance
This complaint is about a safety issue with a Sears Kenmore Outdoor LP Gas Grill. It concerns the gas coupling/regulator assembly that appears to be OEM from GLOBAL ILLIDA. Note: This part may be commonly used on many makes and models of gas grills that are sold by many different companies under different names.
The gas coupling/regulator assembly “blew apart” under pressure after it was attached to the LP Gas Tank OPD and the valve was opened. The failure was not instantaneous. It “blew apart” after the valve was opened and the system was under pressure for a few seconds. The black plastic gas coupling thread assembly remained attached to the LP Gas Tank OPD valve and the regulator assembly broke away and was forcefully ejected from the OPD valve. I did not notice anything wrong with the unit before using it. It was last used the weekend of June 23rd. The unit is stored indoors and wheeled outside and connected to the LP tank prior to each use, usually on the weekends.
The regulator just missed hitting my face. I had been bent over to open the tank valve and was returning to an upright position. My hand was removed from the valve and I was starting to stand back up. The coupler/regulator assembly “blew apart” approximately two seconds after opening the valve. There was a loud popping sound as the assembly failed and the regulator was ejected. Since the regulator remained attached to the flexible rubber gas line, it whipped in an arc and I dodged back and out of the way. No one was injured.
I contacted Sears Kenmore to report the failure and request repair/replacement of the part. They refused citing the fact that the product was purchased on 6/2/2011 and it was now 6/29/2012. The product is covered by a one year full warranty and five year limited warranty on the burners. I was requesting a courtesy repair since the failure occurred so closely to the one year anniversary. The product was purchased on 6/2/2011, but was assembled later and placed in service approximately 6/11/2011.
I attempted to report the safety defect to Sears Kenmore, but was given “the runaround”. Seven different 800 phone numbers were provided and all were contacted. Finally, a Sears/Kenmore customer solution representative took my information and promised to forward it to her supervisor. I requested that someone from Sears/Kenmore call me back to follow up to report the safety defect of this gas coupling/regulator assembly.
Model: 415.16128010 S/N: G550011104016135
The part that failed appears to be manufactured by “GLOBAL” or “GLOBAL ILLIDA” and has this information imprinted on it: On Coupler: GLOBAL ILLIDA 80GK Adapter for LP-GAS YS900A On Regulater: GLOBAL Low Pressure LP-Gas Regulator Listed 9T82
I would like to be reimbursed for the cost to repair or replace the grill.
Thank you. [redacted]
