No one hurt Made May 14, 2018, sent to the company Aug 13, 2018, published by CPSC Aug 27, 2018
The product, in the report: Four-burner gas grill on rollers, collapsable metal side trays.
I was heating the grill yesterday (May 13, 2018) to cook a Mother’s Day dinner for my wife and mother-in-law. When I looked outside to check temperature, I saw dark smoke billowing from the grill and also could see flames in the undercarriage of the grill, far below the burners. I was very concerned that the propane tank might ignite or explode. I grabbed a fire extinguisher (dry chemical) and sprayed the front of the closed grill, then around the side. I was then able to reach and turn off the four burner controls on the front of the grill. The fire in the undercarriage (below the burners, above the propane tank) kept re-igniting. After giving it a big blast from the fire extinguisher, I was able to manually turn off the valve to the propane tank to the fuel line. I blasted it again with the extinguisher and waited a couple minutes before I went to disconnect the fuel line from the propane tank. When I started to unscrew the fuel line, it fell to the side - the fuel line had been completely severed.
My belief is that the fuel line was touching a hot part of the grill and that it ruptured and caught fire, spewing propane into the lower part of the grill.
I purchased this grill in the spring of 2012 from Lowes in West Philadelphia. I never received any information about a product recall. I have children who are 7, 5, and 3; I am grateful that it was cool day and none of them were near the grill. No one was injured, but we were all pretty scared.

No one hurt Made Jul 1, 2016, sent to the company Jul 12, 2016, published by CPSC Jul 26, 2016
The product, in the report: 4 burner gas grill
I am a fire investigator for the State of Maine Fire Marshal’s Office. On 04/12 I investigated a fire involving a 4-burner Master Forge (Lowes) gas grill. The investigation revealed that the grill had blown over in a heavy wind storm. When this particular grill falls on its control knob side, the knobs and electric igniter are in contact with the ground at the same time. This grill fell over on concrete with the tank valve still on. The grill slid across the concrete in the wind causing all four knobs to turn on as the igniter was firing. This caused ignition of the LP gas. Luckily the grill was lying on the concrete patio and the fire did not spread to an adjacent structure. I just wanted to make you aware of this as I was able to duplicate the event my first try.

The product, in the report: Gas Grill
Master Forge gas grill Model #30030MSF, purchased 7/2013 at Lowe’s in Sinking Spring, PA. Faulty handle cracked and was replaced 10/2014. On August 22, 2015, grill was preheating on high and both sides of the handle which were in contact with the grill lid melted, causing the handle to fall off. Fortunately, the plastic did not catch on fire and we were not burned. The grill is now not usable. I contacted Master Forge and they are sending a replacement handle and charging for the handle as well as shipping and handling. I also contacted Lowe’s and am waiting for a call back from the manager. The melting handle could have caused a fire and, at minimum, a severe burn if we had not been very careful.

The product, in the report: Master Forge Gas Grill, model number GD4825, serial number 029445
The Master Forge grill model number GD4825 was recalled in November 2012. I received no alert or mailing from the company stating there was an issue. On the evening of June 26, 2014, I turned on the grill to warm up. After 10-15 minutes, I went back to the grill, noticed that it was already up to 500 degrees but the flames were no longer visible. The gas hose, the subject of the recall, had melted on the drip tray. Surprisingly, it did not catch fire, but the hose and drip tray are ruined.

The product, in the report: Master Forge Green 3-Burner (36,000-BTU) Liquid Propane and Natural Gas Grill with Side Burner Item #: 314076 | Model #: SH3118B
The Oil drip cup fell off the bottom of the fire box dumping oil on the Propane tank and lines while on fire.
The Bottom of the fire box rusted out after one year of use and Master Forge wanted to charge 129 for a replacement part of the fire box but cannot tell me if the new panel would be safer than the current one. They also had no interest in notifying other owners of the potential fire hazard.
I have asked for them to review it with their engineer and come up with a safe solution. After complaining to them via email they did not respond so I called Lowes who said it was warrantied then I called Master Forge at 8009630211 and was told only the burners are covered. The fire box should be able to last at least as long as the burners!

The product, in the report: Model L3218 Master Forge Grill Guangdong Vanward Electric Co., Ltd., of China Master Forge Gas Grills Sold at Lowe’s Stores Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards; Made by Guangdong Vanward Electric WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Master Forge Gas Grills Units: About 37,000 in the U.S. Manufacturer: Guangdong Vanward Electric Co., Ltd., of China Importer: L G Sourcing, Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C. Hazard: If improperly installed, the hose connecting the gas tank and regulator to the burner control can touch the burner box and cause the hose to melt and rupture when the grill is lit. This poses a fire and burn hazard. Incidents/Injuries: Guangdong Vanward is aware of two reports of hoses melting and rupturing. No injuries have been reported.
This Master Forge Grill L3218 has been a nightmare since we got it, we have made several attempts to get this reconciled with LOWES however they have now told us to contact the manufacturer. This grill exploded and blew me off my feet in the backyard 2 times, after applying the so called fix it kit they are saying will fix the dangerous problem. The fact is this product was made with cheap low grade material and cannot sustain the heat it puts off. I was burned on the upper right hand when blow back, doors shot open and thank GOD they were closed I could have lost a leg.

No one hurt Made Aug 5, 2013, sent to the company Aug 13, 2013, published by CPSC Aug 27, 2013
The product, in the report: Master Forge Gas Grill
This incident is concerning the Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill, model # L3218 sold by Lowes Home Improvement between September 2009 and November 2009, manufactured by the Sagittarius Sporting Goods of China. This first recall was “fixed” by using a longer regulator hose.
My second incident occurred approximately 4 years after the first . The first incident was resolved by replacing the regulator hose with longer hose.
I was having problems with the grill to come up to temperature and noticed the flame from the burners were low. Decided maybe the burners were clogged with spider webs or something. Removed all the burners and cleaned out the bottom (which is rotting away and becoming another hazard). Reassembled everything and turned on the grill.
The temperature didn’t come up. So, this time I was going to attack the valve regulator as perhaps good ol spidey took shelter there as well. Removing the regulator hose first, I noticed the end that goes to the valve regulators (the rubber part) was slightly melted.
This is why my flame was low it was constricted from a melt down from a burner that was too hot as a result from poor construction of the unit. Albeit it was 4 years however, this “first fix” did not fix at all. It seems there is a space (3/4”) between the bottom (dripping area) of the grill and the area that the valve regulators go through into the burner (firebox) section.
This space is only visible when lying on you back to replace the hose (if one’s not injured by now) and not visible at all from viewing down.
I’m fairly handy when it comes to replacing the hose however, this is a race to see whether or not one does get injured by a unit that’s still working, or one that haven’t rusted out yet in 4 years. My simple solution would be to have a thicker base for the firebox, and extend the connector for the regulator hose down and away from the flame source with a metal gas line.
Your original recall site was:
http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2010/Sagittarius-Sporting-Goods-Recalls-Gas-Grills-Sold-at-Lowes-Stores-Due-to-Fire-and-Burn-Hazards/
I’ve seen the original recall report and decided to add to this units’ demise. Never again for the imports.

No one hurt Made Jul 22, 2013, sent to the company Oct 28, 2013, published by CPSC Nov 12, 2013
The product, in the report: stainless steel gas grill (5 burner)
The rubber hose from propane tank to gas valve melted, while the grill was in use.
The consumer said that his wife had a problem starting the auto igniter on the grill. She retrieved a 6” grill lighter and attempted to start the burners, but they would not work. The consumer removed the propane tank and bought a new one and attached it to the grill. The burner lit, but the flame was extremely low. The consumer turned the grill off and inspected it.
He examined the grill and saw a hole in the hose connected to the propane tank and the gas valve. The consumer discontinued use of the grill.
(7/20/2013) The consumer searched the Internet and saw Recall 10-099 and noticed that the problem was similar to what he experienced.
The consumer called the brand name company on 7/19/2013, but they were not open. He reached the firm on 7/22/2013. The firm’s rep. (name unavailable) told the consumer that they did not make his particular grill and they referred him to Archway 800-723-8836. The rep. at Archway told the consumer that his grill was “not” under recall, but as a 1 time curtsey, they would replace his hose with a new one at no charge. The consumer said that his model was similar to the one in the recall and suggested that they take the grill back. The consumer believes that another rubber hose will eventually present the same problem. The consumer told the rep. that he could send the hose, but unless it is metal, he has not confidence in the grill and will not use it again.
The consumer was given a confirmation # 34475436.
The consumer believes that the recall needs to be expanded to include other rubber hoses on these grills.

We bought a Master Forge gas grill from lowes. It caught on fire and overheated. We called lowes and they replaced it with another just like it. This unit is a FIRE hazard and has caught on fire again, just like the first time.
It overheats by the thermometer on the unit with in moments 700 to 900 degrees. Fire comes out the sides and back and top.
We are afraid for our lives to use it again.
I tried changing out the LP bottle--it made no difference.

The product, in the report: Master Forge 2-burner LP gas grill
Purchased a Master Forge 2-burner gas grill Model MFA350CNP at Lowe’s in July 2011. Just noticed a gas leak from regulator (Chant AZF 1049 model) This regulator was the main factor in a recall of [REDACTED] gas grills but I haven’t seen a recall of Master Forge models with this regulator. If the grill were used with this leak, it would almost certainly cause a fire and or explosion with no way to mitigate until it burned or blew itself out. the leak (regulator) is right next to the QCC coupling nut at the tank valve. I will be contacting the manufacturer for relief but the recall / warning initiated for [REDACTED] grills should be expanded to include all grills with this Chant series / date code regulator. Grill has been kept covered and is otherwise in great shape.

My brand new grill caught my deck handrail on fire. This grill was placed in the same location as my old grill on my deck. The heat that came out the backside of the grill was unbelievable. Luckily the handrail was just smoldering when I went to check on the steaks and I was able to put it out with a garden hose. I went back to their manual and it states that the grill needs a minimum clearance of 36” from combustible constructions to the sides and back of the grill. How many people have over a 3’ clearance? This is like an open flame hanging over a propane tank.

There was no C- or E-clip on on the valve assembly. It slipped out of the grill. Fortunately it wasn’t lit.

The product, in the report: Master Forge Grill Model #L3218
Master Forge Grill model #L3218. Purchased at Lowes on September 13, 2010. Grill catches on fire when using low-med heat settings! Flames were coming out all sides of grill from the grill top to down under the burners. All that was cooking at the time was about 12 chicken wings! Husband was able to disconnet propane tank or else we would have had a totally different outcome. There was also a smell of melting plastic. This grill came with the hose regulator clamp that was the issue of previous recall notice. This problem is definatly something different. After this happened to us this evening, i was able to find several over posts online of people having the same issue. After reading that we were not the only ones, I thought I better report this problem. For us it happened very quickly, wings were almost done cooking so my husband came into the kitchen to get a plate, he walked back out the door and started yelling that the grill was on fire! It happened in less than a minutes time. While we think our garage door may have melted some (have to see in daylight tomorrow) it could have been a lot worse if my husband wasn’t able to disconnet that propane tank! Thank you for your time on this issue.

The product, in the report: The product is a portable outdoor propane grill that can be used to barbecue hot dogs, steak, etc. The distributor’s name is L G Sourcing, Inc., the brand name is Master Forge, and the model number is GR4039- 014247. The grill actually does not belong to me. It is owned by someone else in our family. That person allowed us to borrow the grill from him. The reason I am submitting the report for that person is because there is no Internet access where he is spending the night and there is Internet access where we are staying.
The grill’s regulator leaked and caught fire and the product is only about one year old, so I think that the regulator might contain a defect that poses a fire and explosion hazard. The incident occurred on August 11, 2012 and we were all at a family reunion when it occurred. My uncle was cooking on it and then all of a sudden the grill stopped working correctly. When another person tried to fix it, it caught fire. There were no injuries, however.

The product, in the report: 2 burner gas grill with two fold down shelves.
I had the Master Forge Grill, MFA350CNP, for less than a year and used it on a regular basis. I turned it on to heat prior to grilling. About five minutes later I noticed a fire in the area by the tank by the regulator. Because it was a decent fire and it was dealing with propane, I called the fire department and they put it out.
I noticed on the Internet that there has been a problem with the regulator, maybe leaking gas. I have worked with Lowe’s to return the grill (manager was helpful) but I’m trying to understand more about the grill and other issues as I have seen some incidents reported on the Internet.
Because Master Forge grills are made in China, they do not have a headquarters here in the U.S.A. The # that is inside the door to the grill is the parts department and appears to authorize RMAs to Lowe’s -- they are not Master Forge.
You call Lowe’s Corp Office, they have you work with the local store, then local store sends you to the parts #. With this being a Lowe’s brand, my initial thought is Lowe’s corporate would be handling this situation.
I had to replace some siding because of the heat from the fire was very intense. My concern is there could be a global issue with this grill. Lowe’s is still selling it. I’m thinking their thought is since the regulator has been replaced in future grills, it is ok to sell.
I did learn I do need to return that information card so in case there is an issue, the company can contact me regarding recalls.

The product, in the report: CHANT propane gas grill regulator, model # AZF, date code 1046-1143, on Master Forge 2-burner gas grill, model # MFA350CNP, sold at Lowe’s.
We bought a 2-burner Master Forge #MFA350CNP Gas Grill last May 18, 2011 at our local Lowe’s. This past week-end (June 17, 2012), we noticed a “hissing” sound coming from the tank when we turned the gas on. We checked and found that propane was leaking from a little (vent?) hole on the regulator. We searched online to buy a new regulator and discovered that these CHANT regulators model # AZF, Date Code 1046-1143 have been recalled due to a product malfunction. We contacted Lowe’s, and they patched us through to Master Forge, after much wait, we were told by Master Forge that they have stopped selling these grills until further evaluation of certain issues (?!?!), however they will send us a replacement regulator at no cost.
This is serious problem which could result in potentially fatal personal injuries. Master Forge and Lowe’s as well as the media should be more forthcoming in making the public aware of it.

The product, in the report: 5 burner gas grill. With infrared heating for rotissorie and side burner with infrared heating and panini press. Master Forge L3218
I have a Master Forge L3218 gas grill. While grilling the grill started fire from the main gas line connected to the burner controls that leads back to the propane tank. Was fortunate to be able to shut off the gas to the tank and put out with fire extinguisher. Once the fire was extinguished, propane tank, removed, and the grill cooled down I was able to evaluate that extent of the damage. All the main gas lines were destroyed (even for the side burner), the light switch was melted on the inside and no longer works, and 3 of the control valves (1 rotesorie infrared control) as visible heat dame and will need to be replaced. There is one other gas connection under the grill between the3rd and 4th control valves that was melted off that I am not sure what it is for. So today is Memorial Day and I am stuck not being able to grill out and enjoy the holiday. I also now have to see if the grill and be repaired and the gas lines changed out to a commercial grade hose or piping or if I will have to purchase another grill. Up to this point I loved this grill, just very glad that no one was hurt other than pride.

The product, in the report: Master Forge Outdoor Gas Grill
I purchased a Master Forge Outdoor Gas Grill, Model # L3218, Serial # L32001245. Two weekends ago, I turned it on to pre-heat, went into the house, and moments later ran back outside when I saw flames engulfing the right side of the grill. I reached through the flames and shut off the burners, but I could hear the gas continuing to flow and the flames did not subside. I opened the front doors and saw the gas hose, still attached to the gas tank, but not the grill, flopping around on fire. I reached inside, released the tank restraining band, slid the tank rack out of the grill and shut the tank valve off. Fortunately I was not injured and only had my arm hair singed. The resulting damage to my grill however has rendered it completely useless and irrepairable.
While attempting to find out information on the company to file a complaint, I discovered that the Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Sagittarius Sporting Goods of China have announced a safety recall on the Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill, model #L3218 sold by Lowes Home Improvement between September 2009 and November 2009 because of a known problem where the rubber gas line may come in contact with the Grill’s firebox causing it to melt, leading to a fire. I never received any such notice.

The product, in the report: Master Forge stainless steel portable gas grill
I purchased a Master Forge stainless steel portable gas grill from Lowes. The model # is GR4039-014247. Item # 0184640. There is excessive “blow back” when you attach and unattach a pound bottle of propane from the regulator. I was using the grill and the regulator froze and the burner all but went out. I turned the burner off and unscrewed the propane bottle. Unfortunately the flame was not quite extinguished when I unscrewed the bottle and the “blow back” ignighted in a very large ball of fire. My hair, eye brows and eye lashes got very singed as well as a vest I was wearing. I also got slightly burned on my arm. There are many reviews on Lowe’s site about regulator problems with this grill, mostly concerning the regulator freezing when a one pound bottle is used. It seems to work OK with the adapter hose and the 20# tank. I tried twice to submit a review to Lowe’s about this problem and was rejected both times.

I took the regulator back to Lowe’s and they exchanged it. I installed it and it did the same thing. It will not turn off when in the off position.

Grilling hamburgers on Master Forge 4 Burner Gas Grill, Model #P3018. Finished hamburgers and turned off burners. Went into the house to eat and while sitting down eating suddenly saw flames. Ran outside and entire grill was on fire. Fire was coming from top and underneath grill. Burners were off. Had to shut main gas line to stop fire. Being Senior Citizens this frightened us terribly. Our patio is covered and the flames almost hit the house. Thankfully it did not. But I am very dismayed that after 10,000 Master Forge Grills were recalled in January 2010 (different models) that Lowes continued to sell this brand. We bought ours in April 2010. I am next going to call Lowes and try to get an answer to this. I do not think this manufacturer is making safe products.
