The product, in the report: grill
The submitter is reporting the unit for posing a fire hazard.
She turned on all four burners and placed the food on the grill. A few minutes later, the second burner from the left side fell onto the ash tray and the fire continued to emit from the burner. She immediately turned the four burner knobs to the “Off” position and shut off the gas tank valve. She said the fire stopped a few minutes later.
She indicated that the burner box eroded and this allowed the burner to fall onto the ash tray. The ash tray sits right above the gas tank and she is concerned that another incident could lead to a huge fire or explosion.
She believes the unit is defective and the parts should not erode after 2 years. She indicated that the unit has been used about 30 times.
She contacted the firm (800-549-4505) to report the incident but she was told that she had to contact another department to report the matter because they could not assist. She was repeatedly referred to different departments and each Rep. that she spoke to gave her another number to call because they could not assist. She was provided the following numbers: (800-469-4663) (800-697-3277) (800-349-4358) (800-659-7026)

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite 600 series grills (Carbon grey metallic Model # 146.33578410, 64,000 total BTU, 4 - 13,000 BTU main burner, 12,000 BTU side Burner, Electronic Ignition System
On 9/29/18 i was grilling dinner on my Kenmore Elite 600 series grill. However the flames were really high on the 4 end burners & more so on the end then in the middle of the burner even when turning back to low. The next morning on 9/30/18 I cleaned the grill and notice the the firebox has a hole that rusted through right next to where you ignite the burner. I contacted Sears by phone and the said I would have to have a service man come and look at it but it would cost $99.
The grill was purchased in 6/18/15 but we did not receive it until late July. I have the original packaging sticker and warranty that has 10/25 year warranty on parts. This stick said the firebox stated on sticker “porcelain coated firebox”. The firebox should not wrought away.
After getting service repair man from Sears, he came out on 9/30/18 to look at grill charge me $99 that had to be paid then and gave me estimate for $452 to repair firebox that they say is not covered.
I did not repair and started investigating Kenmore Gas Elite grills on line and found that over 12-15 were in class action lawsuit that were handled by the [REDACTED] law firm and sears /kenmore had defective grills that caused firebox tray to corrode prematurely exposing the propane tank and hose connections to grills burners, potential creating a safety hazard.
I have sent a report and filed a copy of my info to the lawfirm. In the suit on March 13, 2017 sears had to pay the cost for repairs and reimburse customers but not all the kenmore grills were recalled, This started back December 2015 the same year I purchased my grill.
Sears knew or should have known that the grills are defective, not fit for their intended purpose, and unsafe to use as intended. Sears routing failed to repair grills when the firebox defect manifests, and that owners of the affected kenmore grills had to spend around 300 per repair.
I had a gas oven blow up in my face over 15 years ago and had 1st, 2nd and third degree burns on my face. I do not need a gas grill that has an open hole and corroding above the propane tank to explode again in my face...

The product, in the report: stainless steel liquid propane gas grill
The submitter was removing the burners to replace the igniter when he noticed that the firebox was completely rotted. He refrained from replacing the igniter and contacted the retailer. He was told that there was a recall on other models for this issue but his model was not included. He was also told that any parts and repairs would be at his expense.
The grill is kept indoors and taken out during the summer. The submitter said the grill is used approximately 20 times a year during the warm weather.

The product, in the report: Kenmore liquid propane gas grill model# 146.34461410 item# 640-06171799-7
Our Kenmore propane gas grill (model# 146.34461410) is rotting apart after 28 months. The 4 gas gas main burners and crossover channels are attached to the the wall of the firebox. Where they connect to the back wall of the firebox, it has rotted and they sag lower into the firebox. This causes a fire in the grease tray at the bottom. There is no way to use is anymore without replacing the firebox, 4 main burners and 3 carryover tubes. The price to purchase all of those parts comes almost to the exact penny of what we paid for the grill when we purchased it new ($209.00). We would have to disassemble the entire grill and re-assemble it with the replacement parts. i can buy a brand new grill instead.

The product, in the report: kemore propane stainless steel gas grill
Sears Kenmore gas grill m# 148.20125510 S# RBTN015226 purchased 5/1/16, after assembly grill caught on fire at first lighting due to bad hose fitting, which melted wires. No injury’s, called phone number in owners manual and they sent out a new part. Grill had worked great since then. 2/21/18 Last night noticed large flame coming from under heat diffusers. lifted grates and diffusers, found stainless steel burners had rotted and cracked in less then 2 years. also found that the main body of the grill had rusted away in the back where burners are secured. The burners are under a 10year warranty so I called the 800 number 1-844-553-6667 and was told they could sell me the parts. When I explained that the burners were under a 10 year warranty he said they can only sell the burners for 55.00 each(4) and that I would have to take it up with the store that I bought it at. Also gave me a quote on the main body of the grill which is not under warranty at 367.00. Now granted its not under warranty but it still should not rust away to the point that I cant get new burners and install and secure them. After a few very frustrating phone calls with them I started to look else where for parts for it to no avail. But found quite a few negative reviews for this grill and other Kenmore grills for similar issues. Also there is a class action lawsuit for other Kenmore grills, and after reading about that, this grill model probably should have been included. This could have resulted in a fire, burn or death. especially if the burner had fallen since the locking piece in the back has rotted away in less than 2 years

The product, in the report: Kenmore 4 burner propane bbq grill
I was barbecuing on a kenmore propane grill model 146.34611410 which was purchased a year ago and the Firebox tray collapsed which caused grease fire to my grass and also on the propane tank and hoses. I could not reach for the shut off valve to turn off luckily we had a fire exstinguisher to put out the fire but I looked online and this seems to be a real big safety issue with other consumers and different models...when I tried calling kenmore and sears they both said that there is no recall and the cannot do anything for me.

The product, in the report: Propane Gas Grill
This consumer is reporting his propane gas grill that he purchased from a retailer in Minnesota around November 2010 time frame. He had no problems with this grill until around July 1st, 2016 when he placed his food on the grill then went inside to prepare other portions of the meal. After just a few moments he looked out of his window and saw that the grill was on fire with flames close to two feet high coming from the back of the grill. He immediately dialed 911 for the fire department who arrived in no longer than two to three minutes and checked the grill because the fire had extinguished itself. The smell of the propane leaking from the grill was still quite strong. The fire department firemen separated the tank from the grill and couldn’t get the knob on top of the tank to turn off so the removed the grill and tank separately away from the caller’s home. There are no injuries being reported. The caller did contact the manufacturer July 21st, 2016 to ask if they would inspect the grill and repair it at their cost but they declined that offer and advised the caller that any inspection/repair would be at his expense.

Emergency room Made Jul 1, 2016, sent to the company Jul 28, 2016, published by CPSC Aug 15, 2016
The product, in the report: liquid propane gas grill LOT #: RS0338
(6/22/16 Estimated) The consumer indicated that he had used the grill for approximately 30 minutes, when he noticed the temperature dropped so he turned the control knob to the off position, and then shut off the gas tank valve. The consumer then unscrewed the regulator and heard a puff of gas come from the tank. Immediately after the consumer states that he saw a flash and a minor explosion from the gas. The consumer was an outpatient at Carlisle Regional Medical Center emergency room located at 361 Alexander Spring Rd, Carlisle, PA 17015. The consumer sustained first degree burns on his face and right hand. The consumer sustained second degree burns on his left hand and redness similar to a sun burn on both his arms. The Doctor told the consumer that when liquid propane gas ignites it can cause redness similar to a sun burn.
(7/1/16) The consumer contacted the firm (888-317-7642) and informed them of the incident. The consumer states the Rep. [REDACTED] told him that the regulator was defective and caused the explosion. The consumer was then transferred to another Rep. [REDACTED] (800-469-4663) to purchase a new regulator. The consumer believes gas was trapped in the regulator and in the tank which lead to the explosion.
The consumer states that he has changed the gas tank multiple times over the years and never an incident. The consumer believes the incident could have been prevented if he would have waited for the grill to cool down. The consumer believes the firm should put a warning on the grill and on the manual advising consumers to wait for the grill to cool down to room temperature before replacing the gas tank.
The consumer received the grill as a gift about 10-12 years ago.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Propane Grill, Model Number 146.23680310
Just over 2 years ago, we bought a Sears Kenmore propane grill (Model Number 146.23680310) thinking that it was a reliable brand which would last for awhile. We take very good care of the grill and from the outside it looks new. The inside, however, has completely rusted/burned through prematurely to the point that both the burners and the metal which protects the flames from the propane tank collapsed onto the tank, causing a huge fire hazard when the grill caught fire. Thankfully, we were able to extinguish the fire before anyone was hurt. Reading about this and other similar Kenmore models online, we were disappointed but not surprised to see that this particular model, along with a number of others, have had the exact same issue. It is clearly a safety hazard when the burn boxes are rusting/burning through prematurely. This and the other models at issue should absolutely be recalled.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 4 Burner plus side burner LPG Grill (P/N 307010030) manufactured by Char-Broil Model is 4644 30111 0484 serial number is 101CWI J0006 019447A
I purchased a Kenmore 4 Burner plus side burner LPG Grill (P/N 307010030) manufactured by Char-Broil from Sears on 3/7/12. At the beginning of it’s third grilling season, Spring of 2015, I put some pieces of chicken on the upper rack to slow bake using the two end burners on low. The temperature was reading about 350 degree F. After about ten or fifteen minutes, I went inside to answer a phone call. I returned a few minutes later to find the grill and the side of my house ablaze. Severe and unexpected corrosion/rusting of interior parts had deposited a heavy layer of rust and rusted metal debris covering the drip pan and causing fat to accumulate, rather than be conducted to the center drip cup and removed. A large hole had rusted through along the back edge of the pan, through which an updraft intensified the flames as they blew out the gap between the back edge of the cover and the rear top edge of the firebox, quickly igniting the wooden siding of the building. I filed a complaint with Char Broil. Customer service requested photos, and more photos, but three months later, has not settled my case. In fact, it is no longer accessible to customer service, who claimed it has been removed from their system to “corporate”. I believe this product is poorly designed and manufactured, and is a severe fire hazard, and a danger to the public.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Gas Grill with an oven on one side.
On 5/9/2015 the hose from the propane tank melted with fire coming from the end of it. This is a grill with an oven attached. This is a serious design defect that would place the hose next to sufficient heat to do this. Please issue a recall for these grills so that no one else has such a risk of damage. I was fortunate enough to get the gas turned off before more damage occurred but the oven area of the grill is melted and it is unusable in under 20 months of use.

The product, in the report: Liquid Propane Barbeque Grill
I own a Kenmore Stainless Steel gas barbeque model #148.23683310. I purchased it two years ago. Last night while cooking for my family the floor of the fire box collapsed. The smoldering hot metal showered onto the propane tank and hoses below. This could have been a life threatening situation for all of us. I shut off the burners. I could not shut off the propane tank valve because it was covered in shards of smoldering hot rusty sheet metal. I had to anxiously wait far away for it to cool so I could shut the valve. I cannot fathom why a grill would be designed so poorly. The metal between the actual flames and the fuel source is paper thing steel that rusts away in less than two years creating a potentially grave situation!!
My attempts to resolve this issue with Sears have been less than satisfactory. I am one of thousands of consumers experiencing this based on my own internet research. There needs to be a product-wide recall on these life threatening appliances.
Thank you.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 4-Burner LP Red Gas Grill w/ Searing Burner & Side Burner Item # 07123678000P Model # PG-40411SOL
My husband was grilling on our back deck, when the bottom of the grill gave wayand fell to the propane gas container. Luckily he was right there and the tank did not explode. The Kenmore grill we purchased was in Mar. 2012. It retails for $399 and only lasted 2 1/2 years!!! Went on line to see there were many of the same grills that were the same age having the same problem We have always used the best quality cover for the grill. Never had even a cheaper grill have this problem! This has to be a defect in material from the manufacturer. Most all our grills have lasted 10 years. The bottom is a very important part , that should not have a defect as it could cost someone their life! Sears won’t make good on this purchase and said we must contact the manufacturer. They would only help us if there was a recall! Obviously this is a problem with this model as it seems that around two years is the tell tale sign! Kenmore 4-Burner LP Red Gas Grill w/ Searing Burner & Side Burner seems to be inferior in several different areas and they continue to sell them! As time passes, I’m sure their will be many more reported, but hopefully not any injuries or deaths! Please consider checking this item out as there are many reports on line at the Sears websites!

On April 18, 2014 I purchased a gas grill from Sear’s store located in Seaford Delaware a Kenmore Model# 720-0830A. I used my grill over the next few weeks and had intermittent problems getting it to light. Sometimes it would light on the first attempt like you would normally expect and other times it took several attempts to get it to light. On July 8, 2014 I attempted to light the grill at approximately 1850 hours. My first few attempts to get the grill lit were unsuccessful. I tried several different burners thinking there may be a problem with one or two specific burners. I then took the regulator off of the LP gas tank, I remove the tank to feel it’s weight. After verifying the tank was heavy and had plenty of fuel I reattach the regulator and install the tank in the grill. I again attempted to light the grill and was unsuccessful. I turned on several burners in an attempt to get fuel to the burners. When I pressed the igniter a large ball of fire came out of the top of the grill (which was open) as well as the bottom of the grill (where the gas tank is stored). I was blown back a bit. Once I stood up I found I had sustained burns to my left leg, left arm, neck and face. I was immediately taken to the emergency department at my local hospital. From there I was transferred within the hour to a specialty burn care hospital in Baltimore, Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital. I spent the next two days in the burn intensive care unit. I had sustained second-degree burns over 6% of my body. After being discharged and recovering for the next few weeks I again attempted to use the grill. My first attempt at using the grill after my recovery was successful. The grill lit just as anticipated and had no problems. My second attempt at using the grill was unsuccessful and I again could not get it lit after multiple attempts using multiple different burners. After being frustrated from spending $400 on a grill that I could never longer use I started looking for remedies. I was strongly suspicious of the gas regulator being faulty. My reason for the suspicion was the fact that at times when lighting it you could not even smell gas. I felt as though the regulator would not always pass fuel. I purchased a new gas regulator and hose I installed it on the grill and I’ve now been using it for several weeks with no issues at all. I strongly suspect the gas regulator has some type of defect. I contacted Sears and was transferred around amongst many departments finally landing in the recall department. I spoke to a gentleman and told him my story I gave him the model number of my grill he responded with “yes your grill has a recall”. The gentleman stated that parts would be sent out to my home and once I receive them to call the numbers provided and a technician would come out and replace the faulty parts. I asked him to elaborate on the recall because I wanted to know if it was safe to use or what parts were involved in the recall. He stated he only had part numbers and had no further information, he then transferred me to the service department. I spoke to a very nice gentleman there that put the model number into the computer and then told me there was no recall and had no idea with the other gentleman was talking about. He did suggest that I contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission and file a report. I simply don’t want this to happen to anyone else. I have retained the original gas regulator should your agency want it for testing purposes. I would be happy to answer any questions or provide additional documentation such as receipt for the grill, medical records, and pictures of my injuries. Thank you for your time and looking into this matter.

On 7/28/2014 while grilling on my kenmore gas grill I was shocked to find the whole grill engulfed in flames. As I got closer to turn the knobs to the off position I smelled a rubber burning. To my surprise it was the gas hose connected to the propane tank that continued to burn. After trying to get everything shut down with having the fear of the whole tank exploding I took the chance and shut down the propane tank. The flames from the hose finally stopped burning. The complete firebox was completely crumbled to expose the propane tank and hose. Firebox was completely dicenegrated.

The product, in the report: Kenmore grill model 148.23683310
Our new kenmore grill was on our deck. On a windy day the grill was blown 6-7 feet from its usual location and came into rest against a deck table chair. Incredibly, the side burner’s control know was turned and depressed by the chair igniting the side burner. The side burners cover lid was down and the grill cover was still on grill. The side burner got so hot it scorched the covers lid and burned/melted the grill cover. Luckily smoke was observed by my wife and I was able to turn off the side burner before any further incident.
This incident could have been prevented. The grill features and one-turn and press ignition. Since the main lp valve was left on it took very little effort to depress and turn control knob turning on the side burner. Also, the grill features 3 locking wheels. Only one of 3 were locked. All three should be locked to prevent wandering grills.

The product, in the report: Gas Grill
Consumer stated that while using the gas grill for approximately 5 mins the wind blew the flames into the grease tray causing high flames to erupt through the side of the grill. This incident occurred twice. He was able to contain the flames with baking soda. The grill has a design flaw in that it is missing panel which causes wind to blow in the rear of the unit where the flames are located blowing out the flames on the burners at times or pushing the flames into the grease pan.
3/28/14 He spoke with the warranty department and informed them of the incident, he was referred to service department and he was informed that there was no recalls and that it was not a warranty issue, he could contact the retailer to return the unit.
4/2/14 He went to the retailer and spoke to the Mgr and he was advised that he would not take back the grill but would give him a different model grill - that would cost more. He was shown the other grill and he noticed that it had a fixed to the problem he was having with his grill. He advised the retailer he would rather have his grill fixed as the grill he was shown than purchase at additional cost a new one. He contacted the customer care number and was informed that someone would be sent out at no charge.
4/10/14 A service technician came out and agreed that the problem he was having was an issue he contacted his manager to get approval to put a plate on the grill. He was advised by his manger that under no circumstances should he modify the grill because it would become a liability issue. He inquired of technician if he would request from his manager to order a firebox for the grill\. He was advised that he could not make the order because he did not know if the firebox would have the fix on it.
4/14/14 He contacted the retailer and he is not willing to take the grill back.
Caller stated that in his opinion any Sears grill using firebox part number 40900015 that does not include the wind card modification can catch on fire due to flames being pushed into the grease tray.
Caller feels that the grill is a fire hazard.
My fear is that this old firebox style already has post on your site, and that nothing has been done since no one has been injured or killed to date. Only property damage. Another [REDACTED] or [REDACTED]??
I was told by one of the sales associates that they were made for Sears by [REDACTED]. You will have to confirm this.
Model Purchased (older firebox) does not have a shield to block wind from blowing flame out-or-more importantly “down” onto the grease tray that caused it to catch fire!!
Current models (new firebox) has a “wind shield” attached that prevents this issue. So, someone (grill manufacturers) knows that this issue exists on older models but is refusing to admit it - or fix it!!

The product, in the report: Propane fueled grill
Caller purchased his grill on January 10th, 2013, brought it home, put it together then he and a friend began grilling but after approximately ten minutes his friend who was cooking noticed that grease from the meat was dripping into the tray. He also noticed that the slope in the middle of the drip tray is not manufactured to allow the drippings to drain quickly enough to prevent the accumulation of the flammable grease placing too closely to the burner assemblies and flames from the grill itself. Ultimately the grease caught fire and in seconds it went from one small place to engulf the entire bottom of the grill. All the burners were on low and the lid was on but the entire grill was in flames as high as twelve inches high. His friend tried to reach the lid to open it and allow the flames to extinguish, however he was burned on his hands and face. His hair was burned off and his skin looked like he had a sunburn but he did not go to the hospital or require medical attention other than the cream he placed on the areas himself. His skin did heal well.
[REDACTED]
The caller returned this grill to the retailer who replaced it with the same model grill. He had the retailer put the replacement grill together. The caller brougt the new grill home and began cooking however the incident repeated exactly as the first incident had happened. He had this time used only one burner, kept the lid open and a fire extinguisher beside him.

The product/tub material is substandard and too thin to tolerate normal use. Not reasonable to breakdown this early in product life and is not safe to operate. Propane tank sits right below tub and tub has holes in it and I am concerned that tank will get too hot and explode due to condition of material used to construct tub. Gas grill unsafe to use, due to corrosion on main body/tub, studs/brackets that mount heat shields broken off, gas burners have broken free from tub. Can see daylight through tub, I only used this grill for two summers. This creates unsafe operation. Cannot replace parts, because they are not available from Sears. The product, in the report: Kenmore Liquid Propane Gas Grill Model # 119.162310
I was planning to grill on my Kenmore grill model #119.162310 yesterday afternoon. I opened the propane tank valve, lit all four burners and closed the lid before returning to the house. After 10 minutes I stepped outside to check the temperature on the grill to find it engulfed in flames. The flames were coming from both the firebox assembly and the cabinet assembly where the propane tank is located. Initially, I was afraid that the entire propane tank may catch fire, injuring myself and our property. Luckily, I keep a fire extinguisher nearby in the kitchen and was able to locate it and extinguish the fire. My concern is that this grill caught fire rapidly and had I not had the presence of mind and the access to an extinguisher, a similar incident could have easily resulted in serious injury to person and property. I would like other owners to be notified of this products defect and possibly have the grill recalled if it is a prevalent defect.

Kenmore Gas Grill purchased from Sears Item# 07116156000 Mfr. Model# S3218ANB My model is the following: Model #: 148.16156210 Serial #: ANB0008703
Previously seared a steak or two using the side burner (it is a sear-type burner).
Recently decided to sear a steak and when I lit the sear burner a large amount of flames were venting out of the air gap at the front of the burner. Flames where striking the wiring and instrumentation on the front panel of the sear burner. The controls and wiring were exposed to flames. If left unattended the flames would have started the wiring and controls on fire. The flames occurred regardless of the burner intensity (at the lowest setting the flames continued to be directed toward the instruments and wiring).
I shutdown the sear burner after about 2 minutes of operation. I re-lit the sear burner after 1 to 2 minutes and the sear burner was operating as expected. There appeared to be clogging of the burner element from a previous searing of steak.
After the incident occurred I have been careful to allow the sear burner to burn off any grease or fat on the sear element and the issue ***appears*** to not occur.
This is a product defect that should be addressed as it has a possibility of causing a fire.

Hello,
We have a Kenmore liquid propane gas grill from Sears. We bought this grill in June of 2011. It is now August of 2012. We use this grill rarely. On August 6th we attempted to grill. We heated the grill and shortly after placing food the whole grill was engulfed in flames. Flames were shooting out the back sides and front and the temperature gauge on top showed the grills maximum temperature and it was certainly past that I am sure. We could not open the lid on the grill out of fear of being exposed to fire. We shut off the gas underneath and waited for the flames to subside which took a few minutes.
When we did open the grill it was charred and pitted with flames. It showed that parts were melted and I believe this grill is not useable any longer and a fire hazard. We are afraid to use this grill any longer.
I called Sears and they said this grill is out of warranty and that there would be a charge to check it. I said this is a safey issue and that at least they should come out to look at it without charging the comsumer. They took a report but it is on us if we want this looked at.
I think that this grill should be looked at by Sears to determine if this is a safety hazard as this could affect other customers. This is the minimum that should be done. I believe Sears should also replace this grill as it is now unuseable.

The product, in the report: Outdoor Gas Grill
The consumer says that the burners are too short to go into the gas manifold. He says that this creates air space where gas can escape, instead of going into the burner. He says this cannot be seen normally. He only noticed after thorough inspection. He feels that there needs to be a recall on this product. He says the company is aware of the issue and changed the model number of the product to keep this information a secret.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer last Friday 07/13, who told him they would pass the information along.

The product, in the report: Kenmore LP 4 burner gas grill
My parents bought this for me as a christmas gift from the sears outlet. I had the grill not even 7 months and used it about 23 times before it had a major issue. Today I lit the grill so it could preheat to cook chicken breasts. Went in side the house to get the chicken breasts and when locally I came back out pretty quick. The left burner stopped working and started a fire in between the control knob and the interior grill. The other three burners were still burning. I went to turn the knob to shut it off and it fell off from the plastic being burnt. I quickly turned the propane tank off and watched as the front left section stayed lit and burned for another 5 minutes. Thank god I did not wait longer than 5 mintues to come back out with the chicken, the grill probally would have caught the tank on fire or something else. I called sears and they said that there were no recalls and since it was bought from the outlet basically there is nothing they will do even if it is unsafe. Do not buy this grill and if you have it you better keep an eye on it and not leave it for any amount of time if you value your life. The product, in the report: Kenmore liquid propane gas grill sears model no. 415.16649010
My Kenmore gas grill bottle emptied in a matter of minutes while cooking last Sunday afternoon. This fire caused our families’ deck to burn as well as scorching other established bushes. Since there was no other way to quelch the flames while securing the gas bottle, this person’s arm suffered second to third degree burns in doing so.. The grilll experienced an unconrolled spike in temperature, so intense that the foods, in a matter of minutes, became scorched beyond recognition. In fact what remained, resembled carbon lumps and a aluminum pan that we were using, simply melted. In addition to suffering from the burns to my arm and having our dinner ruined, we were forced to incure additional expenditures just to replace our meal.. Additionally, the shrubs in question, are highly valued Gardenias. These bushes have been very well tended but such a broad, intense fire, resulting from this defective gas grill are problematic for a number of reasons. Such unrestrained heat and fire damage is disturbing, at the very least, as well as life-threatening.
In summary, as a result of this life-theatening event, the pricey beef ribs to be barbecued were ruined, my deck was on fire and one railing damaged by the intense flames. Additionally, my wife’s highly valued Gardenia bushes were batterd by this intense fire. This Kenmore defective grill appears to have, as they say, gone super nova - meaning that more than 3/4 -full gas bottle was instantaneously depleted.

The consumer says she was having a cookout. All of a sudden the ignitor was making noise and flames shot out up to 5 ft. A fire marshall came who said the ignitor was faulty. A technician sent by the retailer who said that the grill caught fire caused by gas leak from joint side burner and regulator. The consumer says that everything inside the grill was completely burned. The fire dept put the fire out. Nothing else was damaged beyond the grill and no one was injured. The consumer said that the unit caught fire after 10-15 minutes of the grill being on.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Propane Grill
I purchase a Kenmore Grill at end of season in 09. I did not use the grill until 2010. It worked well a few times that summer however one day the knob to the far left got extemely hot and melted. I replace. the knob thinking it was something I had done only for it to have happened again this time burning my fingers.
I called Sears and they offered to send repair with a flat rate of $65.00 just to evaluate the problem. I declined as I think the design is somehow flawed and it will end up costing me more than I made for the defective unsafe grill

The product, in the report: Kenmore/Sears stainless LP grill 84000btu with five main burners, a side burner, and a rear infrared burner.
I started the grill with 2 of the 5 burners set to high to warm it up. After 6-7 minutes the temp gauge on the lid showed it was ready at the 350-400 degree range. I put two pork chops on the grill and set a timer for 6 minutes before i was ready to flip them. When the timer went off, my wife went to flip them. When she raised the lid to the grill, she was given a third degree burn to her left thumb. Of the 2 burners that were on, one of the knobs had been melted off of the face of the grill body (laying on the patio ground), and the other one was melted but not yet had fallen off. The front face of the grill and the lower edge of the grill lid are completely black from the burn. The food was not the issue; when my wife yelled to me that the grill was melting I ran over and moved the food to the side and it was not on fire. The next step i took was to open the doors underneath and shut off the supply of propane to the grill. We took pictures of the grill that evening. Our grill is only a few years old. We bought it brand new at Sears in Greeley, Colorado. It has five main burners, one rear infrared burner, and one side warming burner. The model number is 141.16235 and it is rated at 84000 btu total. The serial number is SU3P009193 with a lot number RS0706.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Gas range
Consumer wanted to report that her Kenmore gas grill caught flames yesterday while it was being operated outside on her deck. The product is solely a grill. The grill was on for about 10 minutes until flames came out of the handles to turn on the grill and the interface is now burned. The consumer called the retailer today and spoke with [REDACTED] at the number posted on the grill and was transferred to another woman who offered to send out a technician at the consumer’s expense. When the consumer asked if there was anything else that could be done about the incident, the representative subsequently gave her the number to the CPSC. The consumer stated that the structure of her home is not damaged. The consumer also stated the fire was put out with a dry rag. At the time the consumer chose not to call the fire department. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident. The consumer was also informed by the retailer that her grill is not on recall. As of now, the consumer has not yet called the firm. The consumer felt it was imperative to report this incident to the CPSC.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel gas grill with wheels
(5/1/11) The consumer is filing the report on behalf of her adult son, who actually owns the grill.
The grill had been in use for approximately 5 - 10 minutes, when it caught fire.
The son noticed that the front portion of the grill was hotter than it normally is. The consumer noticed that flames began to emit from 2 of the control knobs. There are 6 knobs in all. The son turned the propane tank “off” and removed it from underneath the grill. It took a few minutes for the flames to extinguish themselves. Some of the control knobs melted as a result of this fire.
The front of the grill also became discolored as a result of this incident. There were no injuries. Damage was limited to the grill itself.
The son paid $650.00 for the grill at the time that it was purchased.
Same day, the consumer and her son went to the retailer about this matter. The retailer’s rep. told the consumer that they were not aware of this problem happening before with their brand of grills. The rep. looked up the parts that would need to be replaced and it would cost around $300.00 to replace these parts. The consumer said that they were not interested in spending that amount of money on the grill. The retailer’s rep. did not offer anything else to the consumers.
