The product, in the report: Jenn-AirThis is a stainless steel Jenn-Air gas lp grill. Model 720-0063-lp, 2004
I [REDACTED] planned to cook a chicken on my Jenn-Air grill (model 720-0063-lp, 2004) using the rotisserie capability. I had cleaned the grill and checked the rotisserie motor to ensure that it rotated. After putting the chicken on the grill rotisserie unit, I turned it on and put a pan underneath to catch the drippings. I then turned on the rotisserie heating element at the back of the unit, and turned on the rotisserie motor to ensure it rotated correctly with the heat turned on. After watching it for a few minutes, I closed the cover. In about 10 minutes, I glanced over to see the grill and saw that it had caught on fire at the area where the plastic button is to ignite the rotisserie. I quickly turned off the gas and cut off the cap that was burning on the grill to stop the fire. The fire also burned the gas hose that goes to the lp tank, as well as the wire that goes from the rotisserie igniter button to the rotisserie heating element. I feel very lucky that I saw the fire before it burned completely through the hose to the lp tank. It might have caused an explosion or significantly larger fire. I have pictures of the grill after the fire and fragments of the burned pieces. I sustained some minor burns to my fingers trying to stop the fire before it spread, but just put them in water for awhile.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air Stainless Steel LP Gas Grill Model 720-0163 Serial #DG-002 034610 Lowe’s item 18852
On 8/26/2006 I purchased a Jenn-Air Stainless Steel Propane Gas Grill from Lowes in Lake Ozark, Missouri. The Item Number is 18852 Model 720-0163 Serial Number DG-002 034610. Last fall when we went out to use the grill my wife said the grill smelled like gas. I checked out the grill with all the burners and valves in the off position we could still smell gas. We shut off the main gas valve and the valve to the BBQ as we were going to Florida for the winter. This spring when we came back I disassembled the grill checking all the hoses and fittings as well as individual gas valves on the BBQ with soap and water. I found one of the Main gas valves to one of the burners leaking propane, while in the off position. This unit has never been damaged or misused. In my 67 years I have never had a BBQ gas valve just start leaking. I believe you may have a very serious safety issue with the gas valves on this unit. Hopefully this will help before any damage (fire or explosion) or injury can be caused by this faulty item.
As of right now I have been waiting over six weeks for another part (main Gas Valve) I ordered from nex-grill on June 15, 2015 and the date is now July 27, 2015. As of today they are telling the parts are still on Back order and they don’t expect to receive them until September.

The product, in the report: 3 burner propane gas grill. Sold by Lowe’s and others under various brand names by license. Manufactured in China and imported/distributed by Nexgrill.
I was pre-heating my propane gas grill prior to use. I left for a few minutes to get the meat. When I returned there were flames and black smoke rolling out from under the grill lid. I turned off the burner valves to no avail. I opened the enclosed cabinet where the gas tank is stored and saw a jet of flame coming from the area of the connection between the regulator hose and the main gas manifold. I closed the tank valve and extinguished the flames. The next day I could see that the spark igniter unit was burned and melted, the on-off switch for the grill light was melted and had dripped onto the deck, the gas regulator hose was circumferentially burned and melted and the main gas manifold tube had perforated with rust and corrosion. This last seemed to be the source of the gas leak which ignited from the burner flame. I believe that the gas regulator hose was moments from burning through and allowing gas to flow freely from the tank. The grill is kept on a wooden deck next to the house.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air Built-In Gas Grill Model # 750-0142 Lowe’s SKU # 168935. As I understand it, this grill was manufactured by NexGrill and sold under the Jenn-Air name.
I purchased a Jenn-Air Built-In Gas Grill Model # 750-0142 Lowe’s SKU # 168935. As I understand it, this grill was manufactured by NexGrill and sold under the Jenn-Air brand name.
After replacing the steel rod cooking grids on at least three occasions, it has become apparent that there is a serious manufacturing defect in this portion of the product.
What has me very concerned is how they are manufactured. The grids are advertised as Stainless Steel. I am no expert, however, it appears that they are actually made of steel rods that are then “dipped” with a stainless steel coating. The end result is that after about 4-6 months of normal usage the outer stainless steel coating begins to separate and razor sharp pieces of steel flake off of the grids. This is bad enough, however, even more dangerous is the fact that those razor sharp pieces stick to the food you are cooking, causing an extremely dangerous hazard should someone ingest or swallow a piece of this steel flake. I have photos to illustrate the issue visually if you would like me to send them to you.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air built-in outdoor grill
In mid-May, I was making steaks on my new Jenn-Air gas barbecue. I put the steaks on and walked back into the house to check on the rice. When I returned, literally minutes later, the patio was full of smoke and there were flames shooting out of the barbecue.
I went to shut off the gas burners, but they had become so hot you couldn’t touch them without a hot pad. Worse, the controls inside them had apparently melted -- the nobs spun like [REDACTED]’s head in [REDACTED].
Fortunately, I have my gas shut-off valve right next to the barbecue, so I didn’t have to call the fire department. But it was tense.
Still, I would have thought it was some weird anomaly if the company had responded differently when I called to report the problem. Instead, when I told them the barbecue had imploded, they started asking questions: How much ventilation is it getting? Can you send photos of how the BBQ is set up -- from every side? etc....
When I asked what was up, they said: Well, if its not well ventilated, the heat can go down through the back and out the front....burning through the mechanism. In other words, this has happened before. So I started searching for complaints about this BBQ. I couldn’t find the exact model number, but this struck me as interesting, since the second review came so close to what happened to me: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/home-garden/lawn-garden/gas-grills/gas-grill-ratings/models/overview/jenn-air-720-0709-sams-club-99030943.htm

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air 720-0709 Stainless Steel, 585 Sq. In. of cooking area, 5 main burners, A side burner, A rotisserie burner, A Natural gas version or Conversion kit available,Electronic ignitor, Stainless Steel grates,Rotisserie & Searing Infrared burner
On April 1, 2012 I purchased a Jenn-Air 720-0709 from a large membership only club and brought it home an assembled it as per the directions. I used the grill on a regular basis, as per the directions away from my house at least 24.” on July 30th, I turned on my BBQ pit to cook some chicken. I checked on it twice to ensure it was heating properly. I returned outside with the chicken and it was completely engulfed in flames. Fire was shooting out of the back vents and all around it. I was able to extinguish the fire and my home. I contacted the manufacture and asked them to repair my home. After months of delays, an investigator came out to look at my house. Their lawyers refuse to consider this a defect, but I have come across number other reports of the same incidents taking place on consumer reports and such.

The product, in the report: The Jenn-Air® grill has corrosion resistant commercial grade 445 stainless steel construction. This grill comes equipped with a total of 78,000 BTU’s of heat and over 828 sq in cooking area, infrared searing side burner and infrared rotisserie burner, radiant heat, Continuous electronic ignition , tank pull out tray •Dual energy valve for converting the grill from propane to natural gas
I purchased a Jenn-Air Gas Grill Model Jenn-Air 720-0709 sold at Sam’s Club. After four months of use, we stopped using the product due to the propensity of the unit to catch on fire even under controlled conditions. We experienced two serious fires. After the first incident, I inspected the unit for debri, leaks, or any other defect and found none. However, I did noticed while attempting to clean the unit, that the design of this unit has two layered grease pans at the bottom of the firebox. The layered pans are fix welded to the unit and spaced in between about 1/2” with the top one having a center drain sloping toward the center in which drippings fall to the next layer. We believe the root cause of the fires is the design of these two layers. The concentration of the right amount of drippings, heat, contiguous fire source, and spacing of the drip prans appears to be condition leading to these two fire events. During both incidents, flames and black smoke occurred. The flames spread to throughout the unit shooting out from behind, on front of the control knobs, and under the firebox. The biggest concern for safety was the risk associated with flames reaching the hose and propane tank underneath considering that we were not able to control the fire after turning off the valves. We were required to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air stainless steel propane gas grill Model N0# 720-0336
I have a Jenn-air stainless steel propane gas grill. Model number 720-0336 Serial no# 720VIIJC0336-022635A
The propane burner ignitor system constructed of what is suppose to be stainless steel is defect and deteriates to the point that the gas permeates the whole bottom of the cooking chamber and then when it reaches a flame or spark ignites in a fire ball which can cause facial or extremity burns to the operator if they are not aware of the defect. I have repeatedly contacted the manufacture NexGrill of California about the defect and they acknowledge the issue but state they have no fix available. I’m not sure how long it takes for the defect to occur but, my grill is only a few years old and just out of warranty. I have enlisted the help of the store where I purchased the grill LOWES and they no longer carry the brand and have not been able to get the manufacturer to repair or replace the device.
This defect has been present for over a year and the last flare up incident occurred on the 4th of July 2012. I have now stopped using the grill. The grill was a $800 investment which is now not safe.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air stainless steel outdoor gas grill- model # 720-0165, purchased on August 3, 2006
In August of 2006, we purchased a Jenn-Air outdoor gas grill from Lowe’s. (Model # 720-0165.) We tried to go to Lowe’s to speak to someone, but they claim that they no longer sell Jenn-Air or any parts associated with Jenn-Air. The only person who uses the grill is my husband. It is used only during the summer months, and he takes very good care of it. We have become increasingly concerned each time we use it, that there is something very wrong with it and that someone will get hurt by it. The outside of the grill is way hotter than it should be. We don’t let our children or any visitors walk anywhere near it! My husband can barely lift the handle without getting severely burned. Heat seems to be shooting toward the front of the grill. The ignitor buttons no longer seem to be working.
This appliance has been cared for meticulously by my husband...there is no way that this is normal wear and tear. When not in use, it is always covered. Also, my husband is a person who is a certified installer of high-end appliances such as [REDACTED], so I have confidence that he knows what he is talking about when he says that this gas grill is defective and/or made with sub-par dangerous materials!
We are not generally people who file complaints , but when one clearly sees that something is wrong, action must be taken to correct it before someone gets hurt! We use it with extreme caution, but I am sure there are others who don’t know the dangers of it.
