The product, in the report: It is a Grillrite propane gas grill made by Fiesta Grills. 2-burners only.
Defective propane gas regulator model RA329 manufactured by Ningbo Wanan, China. Product was included in the purchase of a Grillrite brand outdoor gas barbeque grill. Regulator functioned well several times before failing. On or about the 7th use, the regulator failed upon ignition of grill. Uncontrolled flames shot out from regulator where it connects to the propane tank. I was able to access the main valve at the 20-lb propane cylinder to shut-off gas flow. Fortunately there was no explosion and no injuries occurred. Just lucky I guess.
The second occurrance was on 11/01/12 but this time I hear the propane gas escaping from the connection where the regulator meets the propane tank. I was able to shut it off and disconnect the regulator unit. This was a replacement that I purchased but made by the same company, in Ningbo Wanan, China.
something needs to be done to stop this company from exporting defective regulator units before someone gets killed in an explosion. I am surprised that the agency has not stopped the import of this product as I am not the only one who has reported the same problem.
Minor injury (burns to hand) ocurred as user tried to Replacement of regulator with a different brand/model resolved issue.
