The product, in the report: Name of Product: Blue Ember Gas Grills - Model # FG50069 Units: About 88,000 units in the United States (47,000 gas grills were previously recalled in October 2008) and 25,000 in Canada Importer: Fiesta Gas Grills, of Dickson, Tenn. Manufacturers: Unisplendor Corp., of China and Keesung Corp., of China Hazard: The hose of the gas tank can get too close to the firebox and be exposed to heat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: Fiesta has received 161 reports of grill fires, resulting in nine injuries, including two incidents of major burns on different parts of the body, six incidents of minor burns, and an incident involving temporary hearing loss. Description: This recall involves Blue Ember liquid propane (LP) outdoor grills with model and serial numbers listed below. The cabinet style grill has two doors and is silver and black or silver and gray. “Blue Ember” is printed on the grill’s hood. The model and serial numbers are printed on a rating plate label on the rear of the grill. The rating plate label was destroyed in the fire/explosion. The model number was provided by the home owner.
On Saturday night, May 22, 2021 the Fairfield Fire Department responded to a reported propane grill explosion at [REDACTED].
According to the homeowner [REDACTED] who is also the owner of the grill and the individual who reported the incident, he had just finished cooking his burgers and went inside to dine with his family. He heard a loud “woosh” and saw flames in the back yard. He evacuated his family from the house to the neighbors across the street. When he was safely across the street he looked back and observed the size of the fire increase exponentially. “All of a sudden it got really big.” [REDACTED] recalled that he shut off the burners by closing the burner control valves but did not close the tank valve because the tank was located inside the grill cabinet and that it was too hot to turn it off. He usually waited for the grill to cool down before closing the tank valve.
Fairfield Fire Engine 1 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire in the back of the house visible from the street front. Size up revealed a large gas grill had exploded in the rear yard, the relief valve from the 20 lb. propane cylinder supplying the grill had functioned, and a liquid propane fueled fire was burning from the tank which had fallen on it’s side. Exposures included the fence, a large bush, the garage, patio furniture, and the house.
Engine 1 crew stretched an 1 ¾ hose line to knock down the fire, cool exposures, and redirect the venting propane from the dwelling. After the tank was cooled firefighters righted the tank, standing it upright on it’s base. As the tank was cooled and the internal pressure dropped the relief valve reset and the leak stopped. The tank valve was closed and the tank stabilized.
The tank was examined and determined sound and safe for travel. It was transported to the Fairfield Fire Training Center for safekeeping. Initial investigation revealed that this grill was recalled by the manufacture in 2008 and 2009 for a design defect that resulted in fires similar to the one we experienced Saturday night.
The grill was secured by the Fairfield Fire Department and transported to the Fire Training Center for safekeeping. A fire and explosion investigation was performed, evidence collected was photographed, documented, and is currently being stored at the Fire Training Center.
Asst. Chief [REDACTED] DFM was the incident commander and also the investigating officer for this explosion. Chief [REDACTED] is a certified fire marshal and fire investigator and has completed the FBI post blast investigation program.

The product, in the report: Fiesta Blue Ember grill Model No. FG50069 YOUR SITE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO UPLOAD PHOTOS
Fiesta Grill called “Blue Ember” purchased 05/28/2009 from Home Depot. It was a clearance item assuming it was left over stock from the year prior. Our climate May is spring time thus assuming the product was a floor model for 2008. The exact amount is $419.04.
Last year a fire occurred where the rubber gas hose lit along with the interior and inside the base where the propane tank sits. After purchasing another rubber hose, I learned these grills were recalled. At that time I could not locate the serial number. My model no. is FG50069.
05/14/2015 I contacted the manufacturer by phone. Received an email to send pics. 05/15/2015 I emailed [REDACTED](using [REDACTED]) by submitting pics. Prior to researching the day of purchase I incorrectly guessed the purchase took place in August of 2009. 05/15/2015 [REDACTED] emails me stating my grill is not within the grill does not fall within the 2006-2008 recall range. 05/15/2015 I placed a call to the CPSC (you) and spoke to a lady who is in the process of forwarding my contact info and subject matter to another department.
Knowing the fire is identical to multiple grills that were recalled, I firmly believe this $800.00 product purchase in May of 2009 should fall within the guidelines of both recalls (or extended) and a safety kit should be sent promptly.

The product, in the report: Outdoor gas barbecue grill operating on propane (in tank).
On June 27, 2013, I opened the lid of my Fiesta outdoor gas barbecue/grill, lit it, and closed the lid to allow it to preheat. I have done this numerous times since purchasing it two months earlier. However, this time, when I returned five minutes later, I grabbed the handle to open the lid and instead the handle came off in my hand. The plastic on the handle melted at the two ends that attach to the grill lid. Additionally, there was melted plastic on the screws that are supposed to hold the handle in place.

The product, in the report: Fiesta Blue Ember Gas Grill Model # FG50069, stainless cabinet three burner with side burner
While cooking on a Fiesta Blue Ember Model FG50069 gas grill I experienced an extensive house fire after the gas line failed and erupted in flame. I have discovered afterward the recalls and had not been notified about them either from Home Depot (the retailer purchased from) or Keesung Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Unisplendor Corp., of China (manufacturer). The initial estimate of damages to my residence are in excess of $10,000.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 25, 2012, sent to the company Mar 30, 2012, published by CPSC Apr 13, 2012
The product, in the report: 3 Burner Gas Grill / Blue Ember Fiesta grill
To whom it may concern, I”m writing in regards to some trouble we recently had with our Blue Ember Fiesta grill. In Wisconsin the grilling season is just beginning so I attempted to use our grill this weekend. Shortly after preheating, I noticed an irregular amount of smoke in the back yard. Smoke was coming our from the grill cover and bottom doors. I was going to lift the cover but could see flames so I left it closed and turned off the burners. I pulled it to the middle of the yard and left it to cool. I had our kitchen fire extinguisher ready but didn’t deploy it. I was worried about opening the cover if I didn’t have too to use the extinguisher. When it stopped smoking I looked it over. The inside was completely charred and black. The once nice clean stainless steel is now stained black and full of greasy grime. Half of the grease pan seems to have crumbled into pieces and is just gone. The remaining half is still hanging from the guide rail but is extremely brittle. My 20lb LP tanks is full of grime and the entire bottom storage areas is disgusting. It’s like the hot grease caught fire and splattered all over. After doing some research, I noticed this was not the only incident like this and found there’s a recall on my particular grill. I would like to make some arrangements to correct the issues I’m having. I purchased this grill because of the stainless steel features, reasonable price, and ratings in consumer reports but after this issue I’m deeply concerned about the product.
