The product, in the report: Coleman Triton 2-Burner Propane Gas Camping Stove

Bought this Coleman Triton 2-Burner Propane Gas Camping Stove through Home Depot to replace my 20 year old Coleman camp stove as it was showing signs of wear. The top grate of this stove has the grate bars bend in towards the burner on each side of the burner. Hence, the pot or pan can easily tip over left or right spilling the contents creating a safety issue. This happened to me on the very first time. Even after using it and aware of the issue, it almost tipped over on my wife. Luckily, no injuries. However, someone could easily be burned by hot contents or start a grease fire. A normal grate design will insure that the pot or pan weight is equally supported in multiple directions and thus avoids easily tipping over the pot. Recommend not buying and Coleman should place a stop sell order on this stove. The issue will be reported to the CPSC...Consumer Products Safety Commission.

The product, in the report: Coleman gas BB-Q grill Model 9949A LP portable, folding with wheels and carrying handle. Ceramic/glass glazed cast iron cooking grate that explodes off the surface when heated. Makes a loud popping/snapping sound as it flies up into the air, and into your eyes if you’re over the grill, cooking. Very scarry! Dangerous!

I lighted a Coleman gas grill, model 9949A, and when the grill surface (cast iron with a ceramic coating) got hot, the glass/ceramic coating on the grates started flying off the grate up into my face and hit me in the eye! I heard a popping sound as bits of the glass/ceramic glazing continued to literally explode off the surface and fly straight up into the air. My eye was burned so bad that I’m afraid to use those ceramic-covered cast iron grates and I’m hoping Coleman has a plain steel grill replacement for this Model 9949A that’s SAFE to use. This grill was very expensive and I was surprised when it injured eye. That glass coating is DANGEROUS, and should be recalled before someone loses their eyesight!

The product, in the report: Camping Stove, Coleman Dual-Fuel Model 424

Item: Coleman Dual-Fuel Camping Stove, Model 424

Background: This is the second Model 424 stove received directly from Coleman as a replacement for the initially purchased stove, ordered from Amazon on May 3, 2021 delivered on May 5, 2021, that was also defective.

    Summary of Problem:

During a recent camping trip, October 10-16, 2021, the Coleman stove would produce a “puffing” sound that extinguished the burner flame. This would normally occur when the flame was set to the low to medium range. This required constant relighting of the burner. At one point, on the second day, when relighting burner, the entire stove was engulfed in flames, reaching nearly two feet in height. Since this happened when under my camping canopy, I immediately removed the fuel tank, closed the stove lid and, with pot holders, physically tossed the stove away from my camp site. It continued burning until the fuel had completed burned out.

Since early in my camping trip, once the stove had cooled, I reinstalled the fuel tank to determine if the stove was still operable. After approximately 10-minutes of operation I noticed that the table it was sitting on was wet with fuel that was leaking from the fuel tank. Obviously, I quickly turned off the burner. What I found was the indentation on the fuel tank, where the generator assembly is attached to the tank, was filled with fuel and spilling over onto the table. Investigating the generator connections, I found that I could tighten the coupling near the fuel knob an additional ½ turn and the coupling from the long generator tube another ¼ turn. (Labelled picture available) This action stopped the leak. Regardless of evidently stopping the leak, I decided not to use the stove any further during this trip.

When this stove caught fire, it was under my camping canopy which was adjacent to my tent. This fire could very easily have resulted in an over $600.00 loss of equipment. Of course, this property damage is of little consequence when considering that I may have been severely burned when tossing the stove away from my campsite.

On 10/27/2021 I filed complaint to Coleman Consumer Service via the Coleman website and, through an automated receipt message, was assigned the reference number of [REDACTED]. As of 12/08/2021, 42-days after my initial submission, Coleman has yet to respond. Therefore, I feel that I have no other choice but to bring this issue to your attention.

Without a doubt, due to either manufacturing or quality control problems, this defect is a safety issue that should be investigated before someone is seriously injured using Coleman Model 424 Dual-Fuel stove.

The product, in the report: Coleman Portable Propane Gas Grill 285 Red

The shelves under the grill (Coleman Company Road Trip 285) were not extended and caught fire from the heat of the grill. Note in the photo how close the flames were to the propane hose. This could have caused a catastrophic explosion in the portable gas tank. Coleman is aware of this risk. There is no warning on the grill to extend the shelves prior to lighting. A neighbor warned me about the fire and the flames were extinguished although the grill was unusable following the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured.

I notified the Coleman Company of the incident and advised them of their duty to report this incident to the CPSC on March 9, 2020.

Consumer Comments I had purchased a Coleman camping grill from Amazon in which is defective. The grill top has melted and was replaced under warranty. This grill has been used in compliance with the included instruction booklet provided by Coleman. I was in contact with Coleman by phone and explained what happened so they shipped me another replacement grill that has also melted. There are many complaints and reviews of this product on Amazon’s and Coleman’s websites of people experiencing the same identical problem. Obviously there is a defect in this model and now Coleman will not ship another Replacement part or an alternative model grill.

The product, in the report: triton instastart propane stove

RE: coleman camp stove UPC 076501234237 triton instastart two burner stove. I ordered online and received the product on 10-3-14. I removed the product from the box and opened the stove. The instructions say the fuel line connects to the side of the unit. i tipped the unit so i could see the side and where to connect the fuel line. Big mistake! The burner assembly appears to be stamped from sheet metal. Absolutely no secondary operations were performed to remove sharp edges or burrs. The edges were not rolled to prevent cuts. The manufacturer failed to install holding screws in the bottom of the burner assembly so when i tipped the unit to the side, the entire burner assembly slid off the base and caused lacerations to my left arm.

I can see the holes in the bottom of the base, as well as threaded holes in the burner bottom, but there are no screws installed.

I contacted coleman [Incident: [REDACTED]] and all they could say is they have no screws. I was fortunate that the laceration was less than 3’ long and not too deep. I was sitting on my couch, so the burner assembly did not fall very far before striking my arm. Had this fell from a standing position and hit my leg, the damage could have been very serious. From the response I got from coleman, they do not seem to comprehend how serious it could have been.

The product, in the report: Coleman Grill 5600

I have Coleman Gas Grill 5600. the information on the back production plate: Model 9990-646 SN# 139467.

Monday May 28, 2012. We invited few friends over for memorial day. the grill has to separate compartment, each has two burners. I turned the four burns on to heat the grill. then after 15 minutes, I put on my steak on one side and chicken on the other side, closed the cover for the grill. in few minutes i was ready to jump in the pull, i was standing with the grill behind me. I heard scream from my brothers and guests that flames are shouting out of the grill, back side. My shorts wear on fire. I jumped in the water as my brother ran to turn the gas off. I was OK, not burned The grilling stopped, and we waited for the girl to cool off. Once it did, we took the top grill screen of on the right compartment. We removed the bottom try and seen both burners in has been split broak about two inch from the back, when that happened, the bottom end of the burner dropped down and ws open for the gas to flow to the back of the girl and have the flames shouting out. What was crazy, that both burners that are made of heavy steel, wear clear-cut broke in the same area same time.

Today, I called Coleman and talked with customer support. I advised the first operator of what happened, and asked her if there is an safety issue with the unit or known recalls, she said now, at first she told me that I need to replace the burners, then with me pushing the safety issue she offered to send me replacement for the burners. I offered to send the burners back for analysis; she said that was not important. She never asked me about the information that is on the unit sticker, like the model number and the serial number. Needles to call I did not feel satisfied tht Coleman cares about the safety of it customers and what happened to me could happen again with some else. After finishing the call, I get on your website and researched outstanding issues for the Coleman 5600 Grill and found there si a recall for the gas regulator assembly. I called back to Coleman, the second operator was more concerned, I explained the issue and inquired about the gas regulator assembly recall. She said that was in 2005, meaning I need not worry about it. [REDACTED] say I was not assure that my grill unite assembly is safe. As far as the broken burners, first she offered to replace them. When I raised the safety issue and other customers, she put me on hold , then told me that they want to pick up the unite and if I have the box for it, I said of course no, she put me back on hold. When she came back on line, she said someone would call me. I was not given tracking number, when I asked for one, I was giving tracking number: [REDACTED]
