The product, in the report: Charmglow 8106320B Ext use gas grill

Charmglow gas grill apparently over heated. lit grill...all appeared normal went inside to get food...approx 4 mins. all 3 burners set to high as I ussully do to assure burn off. returned to find vinyl siding on house melted (positioned 30” away from rear of grill) grill has functioned normally in same spot on concrete pad for approx 4 years. temp gauge was pegged over 700 degrees (700 being highest temp on gauge) shut off gas to unit.

after inspection .. observed exterior hood paint blistered..interior hood charred...grills chaulky white. model #810 6320 B Not sure on age.. approx 4 yrs old puchased at home depot

After this incident... I read a label that states the unit should be 36” clearance in rear. This label is NOT recognized to any person over 3’ tall due to its agular location under the control panel. I only found this label after an online referance on how to find the model number. Aside from being to close to house (6”), I think there might have been a regulator malfunction.

plan to junk the grill and buy a new one. new location will be further from the home.

The product, in the report: Charmglow Gas Grill

The context of the the following report is based on a post-recall, repair-kit retrofitted Charmglow grill:

As many grill owners know, recalls are important to follow and heed. Having purchase a Charmglow Home Depot Grill in 2005, we learned about a recall and received the retrofit kit after incident #1.

Incident #1 After lighting the grill last year, we noticed the smell of propane within minutes. The igniter had burned through the hose. We immediately found a recall on CPSC and notified the manufacturer. We installed the retrofit kit.

Incident #2 Two months after retro fit install, we were grilling happily on our patio- we had 7 guests and a two year old waiting for burgers and steak. Instead, we heard a whoosh and saw flames licking our from the interior of the grill. After running for safety, we called the FD and waited across the street for the inevitable propane explosion. Thankfully, one of our guests was able to extinguish the fire. What we have now is a charred patio area , frayed nerves and questions about the ‘repair’ kit, along with overall negligible consumer confidence in the manufacturer.

The product, in the report: Product Info: Charmglow BBQ Grill (Gas) Model: 720-0536 Purchased: April 2009 When not in use this grill remains covered.

I was in the process of cleaning the main burners and noticed that the small brackets that hold the rear end of the main burners in place have severe rust. In trying to remove the burner, one of the brackets crumbled into flakes. A second bracket is almost as bad- have not checked the other two. The burner is supposed to be screwed into these brackets. At this point there no way to secure a screw into these brackets or what is left of them. Un-noticed, a burner could fall in the back yet still be attached at the valve, leaving at an angle. This is probably a severe safety hazzard. I contacted the manufacture who was unconcerned and claimed to not have heard of any rust problems.
