No one hurt Made Jul 20, 2026, sent to the company Jul 23, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2026
The product, in the report: Product information: Manufacturer: Camp Chef Products: PG24DLX Deluxe Pellet Grill and SmokePro BBQ Sear Box Approximate purchase dates (March and April 2018).
The dangerous fire incident involved a Camp Chef PG24DLX Deluxe Pellet Grill with a Camp Chef SmokePro BBQ Sear Box propane attachment mounted on the side. Both products were purchased new in 2018. The pellet grill was purchased from Amazon in March 2018, and the SmokePro BBQ Sear Box was purchased from Dick’s Sporting Goods in April 2018. The grill was equipped with the original propane regulator and hose assembly connected to a standard 20-pound propane cylinder.
Description of Incident
On July 6, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m., I observed a flame approximately 2 feet high coming from the right side of my Camp Chef barbecue while it was sitting idle on my backyard patio. The grill was not in operation at the time. It had last been used on July 4, 2026, when I cooked for approximately 20 guests.
The barbecue was covered with the original Camp Chef grill cover and was located in full direct sunlight. The outdoor temperature was approximately 94 degrees F.
When I saw the flames through my window, I immediately ran outside with a garden hose and extinguished the fire. I then shut off the propane supply at the tank. I normally close the propane tank valve after each use, but I had inadvertently left it open after using the grill on July 4.
After the fire was extinguished, I inspected the damage. The fire damage was concentrated around the propane hose and the gas inlet connection to the SmokePro BBQ Sear Box. The rubber propane hose was extensively burned and melted, and the grill cover was burned through on the same side of the grill. The pellet grill also sustained heat and smoke damage.
Based on the condition of the components after the incident, it appears there may have been a small propane leak at or near the hose connection to the Sear Box gas inlet fitting. However, I do not know the exact cause of the leak or the source of ignition. The metal hose fitting at the Sear Box remained very tight after the incident and did not appear to have loosened.
Fortunately, no one was injured, and the fire was extinguished before it spread to my home or surrounding property. Had I not been at home and happened to observe the fire shortly after it started, the consequences could have been much more severe.
I have retained the damaged grill, Sear Box, propane hose, regulator, and related components and have photographs documenting the damage. These items are available for inspection if requested.

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 24, 2020, sent to the company Oct 8, 2020, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2020
The product, in the report: Camp Chef Everest 2x propane cook stove. Red in color.
My wife and I purchased a Camp Chef Everest 2x stove. On the first use, it barely lit the right burner and the left wouldn’t light at all. We managed to get a small amount of food cooked on the right burner. My wife turned the stove off and, when she was removing the regulator from the stove, it flashed and started a fire, burning hair off of my arm. The company, on subsequent review, has MULTIPLE problems with regulators, but denied any knowledge of it when I contacted them and only offered a replacement or refund. It could have caused a forest fire or injury to me or my wife.
