No one hurt Made Sep 27, 2026, sent to the company Oct 6, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 21, 2026
The product, in the report: Natural gas freestanding outdoor grill 24 inch 2 burner 40,000 BTU
On September 9 2026 after normal residential use a Broilmaster Premium 24 inch 2 Burner Natural Gas freestanding grill manufactured by Empire Comfort Systems and purchased May 18 2026 from Outdoor Kitchen Outlet was turned off completely following cooking When the user returned to the grill later flames had developed in the area underneath the control panel
The flames caused significant scorching charring and heat damage to the control knobs igniters stainless steel control panel and gas delivery components underneath the unit including a burned gas hose and connector The main gas supply was shut off immediately and the gas line disconnected The grill has not been used since and has been preserved in its post incident condition
The grill had been professionally assembled in May 2026 and received recurring professional cleaning service It was being used normally for outdoor cooking at a residential property prior to the incident
No injuries occurred and no surrounding property was damaged However because the fire developed in the gas and control area after the grill had been shut off it presented a serious risk of fire bodily injury or property damage had it gone undetected or progressed further
The retailer submitted a warranty claim On September 17 2026 the manufacturer denied it based on a photo review only attributing the damage to installation or maintenance without performing a physical inspection A formal written escalation was sent to the manufacturer on September 21 2026 with a follow up on September 26 2026 No substantive response has been received
