The product, in the report: Blue Ember Gas Grill

While using our propane grill, my husband noticed that it was not burning correctly and reached down by the tank to see if there was an airlock in the line. At that time, the tank began leaking propane which ignited, burning my husbands face, chest, arms and legs with a flash burn. The entire tank burned out, leaving our grill completely incinerated. My husband suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns, which required emergency and inpatient treatment at our regional burn center.

This grill has repeatedly had problems with this issue and my husband has had to clear the lines manually multiple times. We were unaware of the recall for this product until now.

The product, in the report: Blue Ember Propane grill, model number FG50069

My husband had cooked on our Blue Ember barbecue, model number FG50069. He finished cooking, turned the burners and the propane tank off, and went inside to eat dinner with our two sons. Approximately 15-20 minutes after turning the grill off, he heard a strange noise outside on our patio. Upon inspection, he found the grill and propane tank on fire from an apparent explosion. A second explosion followed while he was trying to put the fire out, which resulted in a fire that has likely caused the complete loss of our home and most of our belongings. He received small burns to his ear as well, and miscellaneous abrasions and bruises resulting from trying to fight the fire with a garden hose while awaiting the arrival of the fire department. There is a recall for this grill, for which we never received notification. Several other incidents involving injuries and loss of property are noted in the comments of various articles regarding this recall.

The product, in the report: Fiesta Blue Ember LP grill model FG50056-U401 Ser# 07058422

I purchased a Blue Ember grill the summer of 2007. In 2010 I noticed the grease tray was rusting. I then began to look for a replacement. I checked Fiesta Grill web pages and Blue Ember pages. Neither had parts. Fall of 2011 the tray fell into the bottom. No one was hurt and the grill has been in storage since. I am upset that neither site had the recall Information. I just today did a new Google search and discovered the recall.

The product, in the report: Gas grill Three primer burners and 1 rotisserrie burner

While using the grill for approximately 30 minutes on a medium setting on all three settings he stepped away to retrieve something and when he returned the entire back of the grill was on fire.

He powered all three burners located on the front of the grill in the off position and looked underneath and noticed that the hose from the burner to the propane tank was on fire and the hose was three inches away from catching the propane tank on fire. He used a nearby garden hose to put the fire out.

The grill is located on a back deck there were no injuries or damages done.

The grill was purchased from the retailer preassembled and he isn’t sure if the hazard occurred because the hose was assembled incorrectly or there was a defect with the grill.

He made one attempt to contact the firm on 9/21/2011 but they were already closed so he will follow up with them again on 9/22/2011.

He noticed there was a recall involving his model number (see Release #09-283) where the hazard was the hose of the gas tank can get too close to the firebox and be exposed to heat, posing a fire hazard to consumers but his serial number was not included.

The consumer stated that he will contact the firm in regards to how the grill was assembled to determine if there is any assistance that they would be willing to offer.

The product, in the report: Blue Ember propane grill model FGQ65079-U403 Serial # 08K005813 4 burner propane gill with electric ignition

In June 2010 my one year old Blue Ember grill (model FGQ65079-U403, serial # 08K005813) caught fire at the site of the propane tank during standard use. The household member using the grill at the time sustained minor burns to his legs, but was able to extinguish the fire prior to a major explosion or injury. After some research, it was made aware that recalls had taken place on a number of Blue Ember grill models, but the official recall did not include my grill. Though not included, my experience seems similar to those of consumers whose grill models had been recalled.

It has taken me one calender year to obtain assistance in correcting this issue directly from Blue Ember (Fiesta Grills). I have been told that, although my grill sustained extensive damage, the company will only replace parts, which I consider unacceptable due to continued safety concerns with the company.
