We ordered a Backyard Discovery Caribbean swing set from Home Depot in May and had it professionally assembled on June 15th. The part in concern is the climbing wall section of the swing set. My daughter (2 years old) went to use the climbing wall and when she grabbed the fake rock grip to pull herself up, the board it was attached to pulled out. On inspection, I can see that many of the screws are broken and several of the boards with and without climbing grips attached are no longer secure. This happened after only 2.5 months of occasional use by a toddler. This is clearly a hardware problem where the screws have failed. My daughter was not injured, but I am concerned that other children will be injured as it could easily result in a child falling from the climbing wall. I am also concerned because these same screws are used throughout the swing set (348 of them). When I contacted the manufacturer, they asked if we had used water sealer on the swing set. My understanding is the water sealer is used to protect the wood, not the hardware. The screws that failed are: screw PFH 8x1 1/2 H100086.

No one hurt Made Jul 1, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 2, 2011
The product, in the report: Wooden & plastic swing set
Caller purchased her Durango Swing Set about four years ago, she noticed that the set was not as stable as it should be just two years later.
In 2009 caller’s granddaughter who was then four years old was swinging when the frame began falling and she fell off the swing.
Caller noticed frame was continuing to fall, ran to get her granddaughter and moved her.
The frame fell, caller examined and saw that the wood frame had rotted in more than one or two places.
The recalls on this swing would not cover the damage since they are replacing only the plastic pieces not the wood.
Caller would like for the manufacturer to reimburse her with some sort of compensation siting that she paid a very large price for this swing set, believed it would last longer than the metal one’s and would also be cosmetically attractive.
Caller purchased the swing set for her child and her grandchild, they used it for a very short time compared to the price paid.
