The product, in the report: Wood Pellet Stove
In November 2016, I took delivery of a wood pellet stove from a Home Depot Store in San Diego, CA, with order Nr. C53809356. This stove is made by US Stove Co., model Wiseway #GW1949. When I fired it up on Nov.27,2016 the stove worked fine for three hours, but then suddenly emitted heavy smoke. I closed the hopper, but the stove can not be shut off - it has to burn through the supply in the chute. It kept smoldering for 90 min., filling my house with heavy smoke. When I inspected it later, the fire had apparently reversed course and burned up the chute in direction of the hopper. I notified Home Depot and US Stove Co. but got no answer as to how this incident could be avoided.
Conclusion: Had I not been present and closed the hopper, the fire would have burned and ignited close to 50 lbs. of pellets, causing considerable damages.
