The product, in the report: Pellet Stove
This caller purchased her pellet stove around the autumn of 2012 and had no problems with it until after an electrical issue that had been covered by the warranty. Two different electrical repairs completed by the hardware store she purchased the unit from. They were in touch with the manufacturer during these two incidents of repair under warranty. On Friday, February 20th, 2015 the caller started the pellet stove, went to the other side of the house. After approximately one half hour the caller smelled smoke and went to investigate, the lights of the control panel were all blinking and the stove was out. Since there was no fire she decided to trouble shoot and re light the stove. Approximately one half hour to one hour she smelled smoke again. She returned to the stove and found her bedroom where the stove was sitting engulfed in gray smoke but no fire again. She continued to investigate and realized that the plastic compartment that hold the pellets had a hole in it and that the pellets had been sifting down into the motor like an hour glass.
This caller is reporting this as a severe safety hazard and is asking for her monies.to be returned for this product.and for her bedroom to be repainted at manufacturer expense.
The consumer provided photos and added: photo #1 - stove functioning properly; photo #2 - inside the hopper, still smoking pellets have poured down hole; photo #3 - after the fire was out, she removed the pellets and discovered the hopper floor had melted a huge hole; and photo #4 - left side-fire melted the insulation and wood placed in the window opening.
