The product, in the report: Traeger Pro 34 Pellet Grill
Product: Traeger Pro 34 Wood Pellet Grill Purchase Date: June 26, 2024 Retailer: Local hardware store
Summary of the Hazard:
Im reporting a fire hazard involving my Traeger Pro 34 grill.
On Mothers Day weekend 2025, during a long smoke of a brisket, the auger caught fire after about 12 hours of operation. The internal heat caused the grill to spike to unsafe temperatures and forced the lid to blow open.
I contacted Traeger support and was guided through a short test run, which seemed fine. After cleaning and waiting weeks, I re-tested the grill on July 29, 2025, with a new bag of pellets. The grill was set to 250F but continued to rise uncontrollably, eventually burning for nearly an hour after shutting it off. I estimate it reached 700F or more, damaging the structure and posing a significant risk to nearby people and property.
Despite proper maintenance, safe usage, and clear signs of a mechanical or design failure, Traeger has refused to take accountability, instead referring me back to a third-party store. Their support has not addressed the safety issue and appears to downplay the risk.
This unit should be investigated for potential fire risk or design flaw in the auger or temperature regulation system. I am concerned that this could lead to severe injury or property damage for others.
Injury or Damage:
Grill structure warped
Risk of injury from heat exposure
Unsafe temperature spikes and fire behavior

The product, in the report: All electric pellet grill
I have a 36 inch Traeger Pellet grill SN tfb6lzb-1705-hl-007080 that I bought over 3 years ago. Two days ago the grill ignited on its own. Fortunately my wife spotted the smoke and I unplugged it. After an internet search I found on the Traeger web site a comment about grills igniting on their own. I called customer support and talked with [REDACTED] . After much discussion I requested a new electrical controller. They were going to charge me to fix a potentially dangerous fault because the unit is out of warranty. I would think their responsibility for dangerous defective parts should extend beyond the warranty period

The product, in the report: Traeger pellet smoker grill. The model Ironwood 885 was identified by exemplar comparison on the Traeger webpage. Body length, Handle length, pellet hopper & control position.. No specific label or marks could be located post fire.
Andover Fire-Rescue responded to a reported [REDACTED] on 9-15-22. During the course of the investigation the ignition was traced to a Traeger grill electrical plug interface with an unspecified grounded power tap (3 tap) style extension cord. One of the plug conductors (male blade) was found partially intact still in the female conductor of the extension cord. The male blade exhibited signs of an electrical arc failure.

The product, in the report: Traeger Ironwood 885 -pellet grill
My traeger ironwood 885 suddenly caught fire this past weekend after grilling some burgers for my family. The grill is new and was thouroughly cleaned prior to using. After taking the food off, the grill caught fire and after reporting to traeger they noted the fire started in the fire pot due to too many pellets being distributed by the hopper. If my grill had been closer to my home, the house would have caught fire. In researching, it appears traeger has a history of fire issues with their grills and I think this model should be investigated further

The product, in the report: Traeger Pellet Grill Model Unknown. Current model is “Tailgater”
Pellet grill purchased at Costco March 2018. Worked fine for about six months and then began having issues with control. Would sometimes not light and sometimes would intermittently shut down. About one month ago, it caught fire when transitioning from the start up “smoke” stetting to cook temperature. Used a fire extinguisher to put out he fire. Thoroughly cleaned the grill after which, the unit functioned properly for about three more uses. On 10/11/2020, on attempt to use the grill it caught fire again. My adult son attempted to extinguish the fire. The smoke was so thick that he was having a difficult time locating the electric plug to remove power from the unit. About the time he located the plug, there was a flash that had enough force to blow the lid to the grill open at which time flames were visible. This had potential for property damage due to fire as well as personal injury from burns.

Not said Made Dec 22, 2019, sent to the company Jan 15, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 30, 2020
The product, in the report: Traeger Tabletop wood pellet grill. Model PTG
Our Traeger PTG (portable tabletop grill) continues to catch fire and will not maintain temperature. We are not sure why, it will spike up to 500 to 600 degrees and then catch the side hopper of pellets on fire. Other times the auger mechanism will catch fire if grease gets in it.
Most of the time it’s just a grease fire in the burner area that we can’t put out. This unit has about a 50/50 chance of working with out an unplanned fire of some sort beginning.
We have tried to return the unit and we are told it’s not part of the recall, however it’s built the same way the two on recall are built, and has the same issues as the other two.

The product, in the report: Traeger 20 elite junior pellet grill
I followed instructions for assembly and use of this pellet grill exactly. The product did not function properly so I spent 2 days with 3 different customer service representatives following their instructions for trouble shooting. In the process of trouble shooting and under guidance from customer service, this grill caught fire, getting hot enough (on a temp setting of 225) to melt the coating on the outside of the grill. (I have pictures of the damage that I can provide if needed). I contacted customer service again and they refused to replace the product and insisted that they would help me to diagnose and fix the product. Initially the agent did not even notify/consult a supervisor about the fire incident. I am not comfortable with this and I am concerned that this product is a fire hazard (and also possibly chemical contamination of food). I felt it is my responsibility to report this incident as I have seen mention of fires on online reviews as well.
Thank you,

The product, in the report: Traeger tailgater wood pellet smoker/grill
Traeger Tailgater wood pellet smoker grill does not hold temperature. If the flame goes out or temp goes low the grill continues to feed pellets into the grill. Once this happens the pot where the pellets burn become over filled and then hot ash reegyntes the pellets causing extreme temperatures and at a final point the excessive smoke in the grill will Egnyte and blow the lid open from the heat and pressure. It is only a matter of time before this grill causes serious damage or death. This is not user error, the grill simply does not posses the proper safety features to prevent this from happening.

The product, in the report: Wood Pellet Smoker Grill
I purchased a TRAEGER PTG PELLET GRILL 5 days ago, it has a bad control per the company that resulted in 2 HUGE fires in the unit cause me to use a fire extinguisher to put one of them out. Doing research on this unit I discovered many many reviews all showing the damage done by these units because of BAD CONTROLS use to regulate fuel and thus temperature. I ask the mfg to replace the unit and they said no once you turn it on no replacement of the unit. They are sending me a NEW controller to install but I HAVE LITTLE confidence seeing they nearly burned down my home.

No one hurt Made Sep 11, 2013, sent to the company Sep 19, 2013, published by CPSC Oct 28, 2013
The product, in the report: Wood Pellet Grill
The product in question is a Traeger Little Tex Elite wood pellet grill. This unit’s firing cycle and subsequent cooking temperature is controlled by a simple digital that controls the operation of the wood pellet feed auger which delivers the pellets to the combustion chamber. One setting of the thermostat is “smoke” which is time-based, in default, the auger operates delivering wood pellets for 15 seconds out of 90. This setting is practically useless as the fire goes out. If the restart procedure is executed, the unit can burn internally very aggressively and unexpectedly as the accumulation of unburnt wood pellets begins to burn.
Typically when the unit is operated in in non “smoke” or temperature cook mode, the thermostat will try to control the firing cycle via cooking chamber temperature and not by a set time cycle. Today, the unit while operating in temperature cook mode unexpectedly went out. I noted the the pellet hopper was empty and subsequently refilled it and executed the restart procedure as published by the manufacturer. I checked on it after approximately 20 minutes only to find very heavy smoke and flames issuing from the unit. I foolishly opened the lid at this point to find the interior of the unit engulfed in flames and a temperature reading of 521 degrees F on the thermostat readout. Fortunately there were no combustible surfaces within three feet at the time of the incident save for some garden plants. I believe that given the quantity of fire present and it’s intensity that this unit which has no provision to shut the induced draft fan off in the case of fire constitutes a fire hazard.
