The product, in the report: PitBoss model: PBV4DX. Serial # CT111922504066 Vertical smoker. Black with glass front door.

On July 30th 2026 I was home helping my wife load her car to go out of town to a wedding when noticed the smell of smoke. Upon further investigation, it was coming from my PitBoss smoker on my back porch. I rushed over to it. I pulled the cover off, then display was completely black, and the unit was in full rage. It had started an un-commanded ignition with the pellet auger and fan at full speed. It melted my cover that was on it and got so hot the front glass door was solid black and melted the seal around the front door of the smoker. Luckily I was home and discovered it before it burned my home to the ground. I have sent them several emails with no response. I called them on phone and they offered to send me a new control board, but not replace my cover or fix the door. I sent them an email that just replacing the control board was unacceptable. This was property damaged caused by their defective product, not just a simply warranty claim for a bad part. It has been several weeks and I still have gotten no response or the new control board.

The product, in the report: On July 5, 2026 at 7:15 AM, my Pit Boss pellet grill (purchased Dec 10, 2024) suffered a catastrophic electrical failure and auger fire, resulting in active flames and collateral property damage. I reported this severe safety hazard to the manufacturer, Dansons (Incident Report [REDACTED]). While Dansons initially offered a replacement unit verbally, their customer service department systematically refuses to process or confirm the settlement in writing. They have explicitly lied about their email capabilities to avoid creating a paper trail for this electrical fire. I followed up via a legally recorded phone call on July 22, 2026, and was told to wait for manager Damion to review the case. It has now been a full week, and Dansons has ceased all communication. I am aware that this specific auger fire defect is currently the subject of an active class-action investigation. Dansons is actively attempting to sweep an unresolved fire hazard off the books by ignoring the property damage and refusing written documentation to avoid legal discovery.

The product, in the report: PitBoss Pellet Smoker Grill Model PB700NX Serial Number EG109872502529 Classic Onyx Edition Purchased on 03/28/2026 at Walmart in Gillette Wyoming 82718 Price of unit $446 Specifications- Self fed auger pellet grill smoker, with electronic control temperature and time

I purchased a PitBoss Smoker Grill Model- PB700NX Classic Onyx Edition from Walmart on 03/28/2026. I had used the unit 3 times without incident. The next use, as always i used it as described in the manufacturers instruction manual. However, as it was on a low temperature (180 degrees F) I was in the front yard doing yard work, when the fire department arrived due to a call from a neighbor who reported excessive amounts of smoke pluming from the unit on the back deck. As I went to examine the concern, it was smoking excessively, and in fact on fire in the pellet hopper. This was clear how it ignited upon examination following the extiguishing of the fire. I was obvious that the fire ignited the pellets in the auger channel, and grew up into the pellet hopper storage box on the side of the unit. This caused extensive damage to many elements of the unit, including melting, and destroying the control panel and wiring. This unit is under manufacturers full warranty for 5 years. I called to report this incident to the warranty department ([REDACTED]), who requested to obtain photos and do a video chat, which I accomodated fully. I also provided extensive amounts of photos of the entire unit, inside and out. They requested I disasemble the unit for further photos, which I also furnished. They continued to question the same questions over and over, to the extent of my frustration of being on this call for a very significant amount of time. It was clear they were not going to honor the warranty they provide for incidents such as this, so they terminated the call when they claim I was being disgruntled. I called again the following day, and I got the same results. Although they already had the photos, and video requested, and my full compliance with their warranty guidelines, they proceeded to demand the same photos that I already produced for them. They also wanted to video chat again, which was unnecessary, but i told them they could. This provoked more questioning about the unit, as in what occurs when I turn on the unit, and once again I exclaimed that the unit no longer turns on, due to the control panel being melted and destroyed by the fire. Then it was expressed by them, that this certainly does not appear to be the case, because it does not look as if it has been damaged. That statement in itself is not a very wise request, to have the customer try turning on a damaged electrical element that has just been on fire. This could lead to further damage, and or injury, by attempting to electrically charge a product that has been engulfed in a fire. This conversation also abruptly ended with no results, when i was clear that they were not going to honor any such warranty that was provided. This was a nearly $500 product, that I have had for about 3 months, and used 4 times. Which is now completely unusable, and no longer in working order due to it catching itself on fire, and the manufacturer was not going to provide any compensation for their detective product that states it will honor under warranty of 5 years, any defect, or malfunction of their equipment. I had complied in full to their demands, including photos, and video they requested above and beyond their requests on multiple occasions, as well as proof of purchase with date being well within the timeframe of the warranty they state to honor. I have done my full due diligence, and receive nothing but critisism during conversations with them, as well as the same questions being asked over and over again, when they have the clear answers to those questions in the photos I submitted to them.

I was smoking a brisket on my Pit Boss Pellet Smoker and it started smoking deep black smoke and the paint was flaking off onto the meat, the paint was sizzling and bubling up all around the outside of the unit. It was set on 225 degrees but seems to have malfunctioned and got too hot. It ruined my $80 brisket, $20 worth of pellets and of course my $700 smoker.

The product, in the report: Pitboss Vertical pellet smoker

I was using a pitboss vertical smoker to make ribs. As I was turning the unit off there was a small pop on the electronics panel followed by yellow smoke. Then two more pops occurred causing our electrical circuit in the house to pull the breaker and turn the electricity off rapidly after the first pop. Then flames came out the bottom of the smoker near the controls. The fire could not be put out with fire extinguishers and required the fire department to be called. After they put the fire out the fire Marshall said is was an electrical fire due to faulty controls.

The product, in the report: Pit Boss Lockheart Platinum Pellet/ Smoker Combo

Our Pit Boss Pellet Grill turned on at some point during the day (while we were at work and school). We came home to it up in smoke. A grill should not be starting on its own. My thought is that it’s the “smart touch sensor” on the grill that got touched by raindrops or a bird and that turned it on. The company is making an unsafe product, our house could’ve burned down with people inside. This needs to get fixed.

The product, in the report: Pit Boss 5-Series Digital Control Wood Pellet Vertical Smoker Copperhead Vertical Smoker PBV5P1. Black and copper color with door. It boasts a significant 1,513 sq. inches of actual cooking area over five cooking racks and a hopper capacity of 55 lbs. Pit Boss designed the smoker to cook a lot of food in one session with relative ease.

Paint burned off inside Pit Boss 5-Series Digital Control Wood Pellet Vertical Smoker. This happened when the pellet crucible wat full/topped off then ignited. flames were larger than usual and burned the paint off the lower inside back of smoker. This caused a very intense Toxic Burn Pit odor that got all over the food and stunk for an hour. Why is it painted inside the unit when I could just be bare steel? I think it smelled so taxic it was cancerous?

The product, in the report: Outdoor Cooking Appliance, 6 Series Pro Elite 1529-Sq. In Stainless steel Pellet Smoker Model Number #PBV6PSE Serial Number # CA110072403449

I purchased a brand-new Pit Boss Vertical Smoker from Lowes. On the first use, all of the internal grill grates collapsed when I opened the door to check my food. My ham nearly fell to the floor, and I had to catch it with my hand. When I attempted to reposition the racks, none of them would stay in place all continued to fall.

This is a serious design or manufacturing flaw that presents a risk of burns, falling food, or property damage. I have photographic evidence, and the smoker is unusable as it stands.

Ive submitted complaints to both Lowes and Pit Boss and received no meaningful response. This product needs to be recalled or fixed to avoid injury.

It was set in smoker mode; we were in the process of preheating it prior to putting spare ribs in it. 15 minutes later when we went out on the porch to place the meat on the grill it was engulfed in flames; we felt fortunate the flames hadnt spread to the house.

The product, in the report: Pit Boss 1600

I have a PitBoss 1600 that has major quality issues. They have replaced the control board and temp probe multiple times. The last issue I had with the unit resulted in a 2-3 ft flame coming out of the back. When I open it to put the fire out flames burst out. It almost burned my house down. I called Dansons to report the issue. They were deflective and would not take ownership. Dansons has not requested I send any of the defective components back to them for root causing. This is probably why I keep receiving defective parts. Please do something to pressure this organization into some design regulations to produce units that are safe for consumers.
