The product, in the report: Grilla Mammoth (vertical pellet smoker)
I purchased a Grilla Mammoth pellet grill in January 2025 (order number [REDACTED], serial code vs1c6920829f93, firmware version 1.0.26). As of the date of this incident, it had been used a total of three times.
On the night of June 7, 2026, I began an overnight brisket cook at approximately 11:30 PM. I monitored the grill remotely through the Grilla app overnight and observed no problems. The following morning, I found the grill door open and very difficult to close. Even when forced shut with the latch engaged, the door would not fully seal.
I have a [REDACTED] camera system that records the area where the grill is located. I reviewed the footage to determine what had occurred. The footage carries a burned-in on-screen timestamp and captured the failure as follows:
- At approximately [REDACTED] AM, the grill began smoking heavily, with smoke billowing out of the exhaust. The exhaust was not obstructed. - At [REDACTED] AM, a first explosion pushed the door outward so that it was no longer fully sealed, though not fully open. Immediately after this, smoke began escaping from the seam of the door as well, whereas before the explosion smoke had come only from the exhaust. - At [REDACTED] AM, a second, larger explosion occurred, producing a fireball that blew the door fully open.
I reached the grill approximately 20 to 25 minutes after the explosions. The door was open and light smoke was coming from the pellet hopper. I briefly increased the temperature to push the remaining fire out of the pellet hopper area while the door was open, then shut the unit down.
No one was injured and there was no damage to my home or deck. However, the grill had only been used three times since purchase in January 2025, and the failure, an unattended explosion and fireball, clearly presents a risk of serious injury and structural fire had anyone been nearby or had the unit been closer to combustible structures.
I have preserved time-stamped video footage of the incident, the grill unit, and the pellets used.
