No one hurt Made Jun 12, 2023, sent to the company Jun 14, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 29, 2023
The product, in the report: This is a Char-Griller Pellet smoker, model 9020, serial number R0014300B.
I own a Char-griller Model 9020 Pellet Smoker/Grill. The grill was “off” (it has a rotating switch to turn it on). The grill started by itself and ignited the pellets starting a small fire since the cover was on the grill. I noticed the fire right away and unplugged the unit. I re-confirmed that the unit was OFF but it turned on spontaneously. I tried contacting Char-griller and their recorded line stated that they do not speak with customers directly, but to send a message via their website which I did on June 1st. I received an automated reply that somebody would get in touch with me (automated case # [REDACTED]) within 5 business days but nobody called or wrote. This is a serious fire hazard and should be addressed. Since the company won’t even take a report of the issue, I thought that the most prudent thing would be to report it to your offices.

First aid Made Oct 9, 2018, sent to the company Oct 19, 2018, published by CPSC Nov 9, 2018
The product, in the report: Chargriller Professional grill and smoker, Duo char grille ,one side lpg and other charcoal black in color
While using the gas portion of the dual side bbq pit, one side charcoal and other lpg, the gas line going from regulator burned against bottom of grill because it was to short and contacted grill. Did`nt notice until had a fire under grill which was small enough to turn bottle off before a catastrophic explosion occurred. Although incurred minor burns not sufficient to receive professional medical care it was very scary. Someone with less were with all would have had a serious situation.

No one hurt Made May 23, 2018, sent to the company Jun 28, 2018, published by CPSC Jul 13, 2018
The product, in the report: 9020 Wood Fire Pro Pellet Grill
We purchased a model9020 Wood Fire Pro® Pellet Grill from Lowes (#3168 in Bear, DE) on 25 March 2018. Upon its first operation, we experienced a flame out blast which blew the lid open. There was a fire inside the main grill body. This fire had to be extinguished.
We phoned Char-Griller’s (C-G) Customer Service line and a Customer Service Representative (CSR) told us the 9020 “ ... is known for having been wired backwards.” The CSR talked us through disassembling the digital control unit and reversing the power feed from the auger and draft fan. We became concerned that such a “known” issue wasn’t handled by a product safety recall or through some other proactive corrective action. And that their way of repairing their products were to have the consumer take directions by phone to rewire and repair their products.
Next we realized that the fire rod or igniter was not working as described in the Owner’s Manual. On the next call to their support line, the CSR explained how I needed to, once again, disassemble the digital control and send pictures to C-G for a visual review to determine if there were other problems with the assembly and manufacturing of the grill. I was informed that C-G would not incur the expense of” randomly shipping parts out in an attempt to correct every problem.”
At that point I determined I was not about to act as a surrogate repair engineer to repair a faulty product in hopes that all of the manufacturing errors would be diagnosed from a smart phone picture.
Char-Griller issued an RTM statement to return the product to the place of purchase but would not agree to reimburse us for all the C-G auxiliary products purchased - vinyl cover {part #9155) & bag of pellets (part# 9620) and for the ancillary costs associated with the purchase (transportation back to Lowes, etc ... ).
I believe that Char-Griller I A&J Mnf. is knowingly selling a product that was manufactured unsafely and is negligent.
I feel the DE F&CPD should investigate this public safety issue.

The product, in the report: Char-griller Duo 5050 It is a combination gas & charcoal grill with a side burner
We were using the side burner on our grill to do a seafood boil. The gas hose melted at the connection to the burner and caught on fire. The hose was shooting propane & fire on our wood deck. Luckily we were standing near it and could shut off the valve on the gas tank. No one was injured. 2 months later, our friend with the same grill had the same thing happen to him.
