The product, in the report: Contact grill, electric hot plate grill
George Foreman Grill GRV6090B will turn itself on after being switched to off. This has happened multiple times. The switch is on the handle and it has a rotary position indicator for temperature setting sometimes it will be off for an hour and then at random I will hear the grill beep and it heats itself back to 450 f. I first noticed it when I woke up in the morning ant it had turned itself on. I have reported it to the Empower for warranty, but they only wanted ti give me a lesser model that requires unplugging the unit. Since I have to do that anyway, what is the point of having an on/off switch?

The product, in the report: The product is a George Foreman 9-Serving Basic Plate Electric Grill and Panini Press, model GR2144P, with a 144-square-inch cooking surface. It is platinum/silver in color and designed for indoor countertop use. The grill features a hinged top plate for pressing sandwiches or grilling meats and includes nonstick cooking plates that are not removable. It operates on standard household electricity and is commonly used for preparing quick meals such as sandwiches, meats, or toasted bread.
In the morning, as part of our usual routine, we were using our George Foreman grill to warm some bread. While the grill was preheating, we were spreading butter on the bread, preparing to place it on the grill. Suddenly, the grill caught fire on its own, producing visible flames and smoke. The fire was unexpected and dangerous, creating a serious risk to our family and home. We immediately unplugged the unit and managed to extinguish the flames before they spread further. Fortunately, no one was injured, but it could have caused a major accident. The product had been used normally and properly maintained.

The product, in the report: George Foreman Grilling Machine
I was cleaning up my grill. After removing the plates and the drip catcher, I saw some oil (grilled salmon with olive oil) had spilled on my counter. I ran my dish cloth underneath the grill and my right ring finger made contact with a plastic piece under the grill that has an opening. The edges of the plastic are sharp and I cut my knuckle. The cut is approximately 1/8 of an inch deep and it was hard to get the bleeding to stop due to being on the knuckle.

The product, in the report: George Foreman GRP106QPGR 360 Electric Nonstick Round-Shaped Grill with 5 Interchangeable Grill Plates
I got a George Foreman 360 Electric Nonstick Round-Shaped Grill with 5 Interchangeable Grill Plates as a gift but the first time I tried to use it, the hot plates came flying off when I opened it. This grill has interchangeable plates which attach on the top and bottom. These are heavy, metal plates, but they don’t secure properly. I saw many complaints of the same problem on amazon as these grills are still for sale. I got mine in 2010, but I haven’t used it and since it was a gift I couldn’t return it.

The product, in the report: George Foreman Grilling Machine, model GRP99 B, silver in color, LED display
A few days ago, we had a power outage. When the power came back on, our George Foreman grill turned itself on. The LED display was blank and, when I smelled a “hot” smell, I finally figured out it was the grill and unplugged it. The temperature of the grill was higher than I have ever used it, which means it exceeded 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
After the grill cooled off, it seems to operate correctly, though we are nervous using it now.

The product, in the report: George Foreman 360 Grill. It is black and about 10 inches in diameter.
The grill was heated and hamburgers were being cooked. We lifted the lid by the handle and removed the burgers. While the lid was lifted the heavy plate fell out of it’s space and landed on the countertop. We reattached the plate which took about 20 minutes and made sure it was secure. The second attempt to use it was not successful- the grill plate became detached a second time.

The product, in the report: George Forman Grilling Machine Modle GRP4EWS
I have owned a George Forman Grilling Machine for a little over a year. I like it a lot, until this morning when I woke to a house full of smoke, I thought the house was on fire. I like, many don’t unplug these Grills Model GRP4EWS. the lights stay on but not the heat, well there were no lights on and it was turning the plates red. I noticed when turning it over to get this info it looks like the grease has somehow leaked into the bottom part, not sure how this could happen. This maybe the problum.

The product, in the report: Equipped with 106 square inches of cooking surface, this round-shaped electric grill features five removable cooking plates for exceptional versatility. The countertop appliance can function as a deep-dish pizza oven, a six-pocket quesadilla press, an omelet maker, or a pancake griddle--simply switch out the plates. Five come included: two ribbed grill plates, two quesadilla plates, and a 1-inch deep-dish plate for pizzas, griddling, baking, and more. The appliance’s appeal lies not only in its simplicity and countertop convenience, but also in its fat-fighting ability. The cooking surface can be adjusted from flat to angled in order to help channel fat away from food and into the built-in drip tray. Even more, its triple nonstick coating allows for low-fat cooking while ensuring effortless food release. The unit also provides adjustable temperature control, a “ready” indicator light, and a 1-1/2-inch floating hinge to accommodate thicker sandwiches or steaks. Other highlights include embedded heating elements for consistent heat and rapid recovery time, an extended metal loop handle for raising and lowering the lid, cool-touch side handles, and a spatula for transferring food from the grill to a plate. To clean, simply wipe the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth and put the removable plates in the dishwasher. The 1500-watt grill measures 17-1/2 by 15 by 5-7/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
Hi,
The below is a copy of the letter I sent the manufacturer. I think this grill is hazardous. I really like the concept but the plates fall out when hot all the time, mostly when you are lifting the grill open to get the food out or turn it. When I went back and looked on amazon - other people are having the same issue - I have not placed a review on amazon so I am sure others haven’t either. I had this issue before and they replaced the defective plate but it keeps happening. I am an engineer and I really do check the plates before cooking - I am not sure if the heat is expanding the latch or what. To be honest - I have to think there must be a better locking mechanism out there.
Sincerely, [redacted] Hi, I have the George Foreman 360 Electric Nonstick Grill with 5 Interchangeable Grill Plates (I couldn’t find it in the list below). I also bought the heart-shaped waffle plates. I have been pretty happy with one large exception. I am very careful putting the plates in - I make sure they are in the right direction - tug on them to make sure they are stable - and they still sometimes fall out. Today - I was grilling burgers and the top plate flew off when I lifted the opening. This time the hinge cracked but is still somewhat usable but I think it is too big a safety hazard. I am torn - do I invest more in these plates - or do I switch to another safer means of cooking (which seems to make more sense) I like the grill a lot but you really need to come up with a locking mechanism for the plates that works. I have spent almost $200 so far and I hate the idea of getting rid of my grill but I was just happy no one was standing where the heated grill plate landed. This is not the first time this has happened - I have had good experiences with the grill but the dangerous is really overshadowing the good now. I am sending a copy of this to the CPSC - I really think you should recall the grill - and make one that the plates lock firmly into position.
