The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Intex steel supported pool 12 x 24 x 52 pool for recreation. Approximate age 6 years of usage.

I have a 12x24x52 in Intex galvanized steel supported pool. One morning we heard a boom, we went outside to find our pool at blew out. It took a hard sided kiddie dog pool and literally folded it in half and forced it under our fence. Two container gardens I had going we’re totally washed away plants and dirt. If I had been in the pool which I was the day before, I would have either been thrown out and against our fence or possibly drowned. Had anyone been on the outside of the fence they would have been thrown against the fence with the rush of so many gallons of water. We found objects that were in the pool and outside of the pool in disarray including the heavy duty ladder and pump and sand system. Thank goodness our dogs or not on the other side of the pool when it blew as they would have been injured as well. Upon the inspection we found several of the support pipes had literally rusted through and through. Thankfully no one was on the sidewalk because a mini flash flood occurred when the pool blew out.

My child got into my pool by using the strap and you just recalled 5 million of these pools. I had to cut it to drain the water to get her out. Is there any way I could get a replacement

The product, in the report: 10 foot round 30” Intex above ground pool with steel frame

I am writing to express a serious safety concern regarding one of your above-ground pools. I own a [Brand + model name if you know it; e.g., [REDACTED]], which is 30 inches tall and features the same type of external compression strap that was recently recalled on 48-inch and taller pool models.

Although this pool is not included in the current recall, I am very concerned because my toddler is actively using the external strap as a foothold to climb the pool wallrepeatedly, even under direct supervision. The strap is looped over the vertical supports exactly as pictured in the recall announcement, and it clearly presents the same hazard that prompted the recall of taller models.

The only difference seems to be the height of the pool, but a fall from 30 inches or an unsupervised entry into the water is still a serious drowning risk for a small child. I strongly believe this design flaw should not be overlooked just because fatalities havent been reported yet for shorter models.

    I am requesting the following:

A free repair kit or replacement strap, similar to what is being offered for recalled pools

That your company report this hazard to the CPSC, and consider expanding the recall to include other models with the same strap design

Guidance on how to safely retrofit or remove the strap without compromising the structural integrity of the pool

I am also submitting a report to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov to document this concern. I hope your company will take this issue seriously and prioritize child safety over arbitrary height cutoffs.

Thank you for your time and attention.

[REDACTED] used the ladder to gain access to the pool. While climbing the ladder, it began to give way, causing him to fall head first into the pool. [REDACTED] struck his head on the bottom of the pool. He sustained permanent injuries, including complete paralysis from the neck down.

The product, in the report: Intex metal frame pool & ultra metal frame pools Model No.: 56945WA

Our 2.5 year old son climbed the side of our intex metal frame pool- without the use of anything but the pool itself- On these intex pools there is a band that runs about a foot off of the ground and our child used that as a step and climbed over the top of the pool and almost drowned- he was out of our sight for no more than 5 minutes max and there were other children outside- no one ever though our child could have climbed over our 4 ft pool. We kept the ladder about 50 feet away from the pool to ensure that he would not be able to climb in, however the design of this pool is not child friendly and the thought of these pools remaining in other families homes and posing such an immediate danger I felt that it was the only thing I could do but report it to anyone and everyone to try to get this problem known to parents and other consumers who have the same products.

The product, in the report: INTEX 18X52 ULTRA DELUXE SALTWATER METAL FRAME POOL WHICH CAME WITH POOL, LADDER, HOSES, PUMP, ETC.

I purchased an INTEX 18x52 ultra deluxe salt water metal frame pool which came with pool, ladder, hoses, pump, etc. on 05-08-2010. The ladder provided with the pool was correctly assembled and put to use in the saltwater pool. One June 8th, 2011 my wife and I were in the pool. When my wife attempted to get out of the pool, the ladder collapsed on one of the legs. Luckily, my wife only suffered a small cut and bruising on her leg. After much effort, I was finally able to get out of the pool myself by climbing over the wall of pool. I had to get a step ladder out of my shed in order to get my wife out of the pool. Upon inspection the pool ladder, it was determined the ladder had completely rusted through at one of the connection sleeves, causing the ladder to collapse. I contacted INTEX to advise of the incident in an attempt to prevent injuries and possible death to other consumers. If a child or adult were standing near the top of ladder during collapse, it could be fatal. I advised INTEX the metal ladder did not appear to be salt water resistant. It appears this is the same ladder and the same metal constuction used on the ladders provided with non-salt water pools. INTEX simply advised they appreciated the call, but the ladder was not under warranty. It appeas they have no intention of recalling the ladder, or changing the design. I am not writing to complain about the warranty issue, but out of concern that the ladder they are selling is not designed for use in saltwater and could cause serious injury or death. I still have the ladder in my possesion and offered to have INTEX inspect the ladder. The offer was declined.

The product, in the report: Intex Ultra Frame 16’ x 48” above ground pool.

We purchased an Intex Ultra Frame 16’ x 48” above ground pool and set it up in our back yard. We have 3 small children (ages 5, 4, and 2) and have been extremely cautious about pool safety. However, today we noticed our 2 year old standing on the restraining belt that goes around the outside of the pool. While standing on this belt he was high enough to fall into the pool. We understand this belt is necessary for the stability of the pool, but many parents of small or older children may not be aware of the potentially dangerous situation of children accidentally falling in the pool if they climb on this belt. We just wanted to make you aware of the situation. We contacted Intex Corp. and informed them of this potential safety hazard and they informed us to keep children away from the pool unsupervised. We told them we don’t leave our children unsupervised, but other consumers may not be as vigilant as we are. Thank you for your time.
