The product, in the report: Confer Plastics Step-1X: Sturdy Above Ground Entry System with Dual Handrails and Slip-Resistant Steps, Easy Installation, Supports up to 400 lbs - Proudly Made in USA. Warm Grey with Grey Treads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002AQUFG6?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

Purchased replacement above ground pool steps advertised for heavier weight usage. Followed instructions for assembly and installation. Upon first use, fell getting out of pool because handles are not sturdy and any overweight or elderly person will get hurt. Several reviews stated flimsy but many raved. Seller does not offer an option for return once assembled. There should be additional upright supports to help stabilize handle. The height of each step REQUIRES use of handles to support self getting in or out. The steps were being used by my husband (84 - 260 lbs), myself (61 - 325 lbs) and grandchildren 6 & 4. The steps advertise as being able to hold up to 400 lbs yet when my husband was entering the pool, the steps bowed slightly on each step he took. The product states needs 40lbs filter sand to “weigh down” steps and we put about 45lbs of the 50lb bag in. Stairs still wanted to float. There are 2 flimsy plastic attachments that you are supposed to screw to the deck that do not prevent this floating effect merely hold it close to the pool wall. The steps are held together by “ plastic wedges” and step “risers” are held in by “applied pressure” from the steps being wedged in. My 250 lb hubby stepped on the bottom step and the bottom riser fell out (in pool). The steps are not standard height steps and a missing riser could allow a small child as my 4 & 6 yo grands to slip into the cavity created by solid side walls and drown. Upon exiting the pool, I myself grabbed the “handle” to support myself exiting and at top step to deck transition, the handle bent outward away from me causing me to fall onto deck hurting left shoulder, hip and banging left foot and breaking one toe. Had steps removed 2 days later when assistance could be obtained to remove them. The pool was not used in that time for fear of anyone else falling. The span between the handle top and bottom is approximately 2-3’ with no additional support leaving them easy to flap like bird wings. The fear of the flimsy handles (for any age, weight or ability as these were purchased for easier use by elderly) and the fear of entrapment by small children or potential slip step and leg getting caught/injured in stair encased housing has led me to report this item.
