  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 1, 2024, sent to the company Sep 5, 2024, published by CPSC Sep 19, 2024

The product, in the report: Pellet grill

(07/27/2024) The consumer has a safety concern about the product. He stated that the product does not hold the temperature settings. He set the temperature for 200 degrees. The temperature dropped down to 130 then jumped up to 330 degrees. The grill became so hot that it melted the metal on the inside of the product. The consumer stated that this had happened before.

7-9-24 I purchased PBV6PSE vertical Pit Boss Pro Series from Lowes. 7-11-24 Ran update 7-12-24 I bought 200oo of meat from [REDACTED] 7-14-24 I started smoking a 75oo brisket the set point temp was set at 205 The smoker would swing from 130 to 330 and fill cabinet with white smoke. Ended up trashing brisket 7-17-24 I tried to run smoker again and it kept filling with white smoke and at 9:10AM I called Pit Boss techs Ran Test 7-17-24 10:04AM called Pit Boss with same issue Tech said that it is definitely the temp prob and Control Panel. “That this is a well known issue” That he would send me replacements and a email. To open door when filled with white smoke to keep from [ILLEGIBLE] 7-17-24 Called Pit boss. I never received a email The lady said that it was all due to my WiFi She said to keep my smoker plugged in for the latest download and that they would only send me a temp probe. Which is par with the complaints is that I have read. One part at a time and the customer does all the work.

7-18-24 Called Pit Boss and was told to keep the smoker plugged in that the download could take a week or two “and ensured me that it was completely safe” I said it doesn’t seem safe and I was reassured that its completely safe.

7-19-24 Called Pit Boss and spoke with [REDACTED] I received an email about temp prob being ordered but not shipped. Post office waiting for part and was told to leave plugged in and that it was completely safe.

7-23-24 Called Pit Boss and spoke with [REDACTED] – very rude person. The only one that been belittling. He sent me a link to send pictures of grill ID# Trouble codes and the name of the Pit he said that he had everything he needed for the update. To keep smoker plugged in until 6PM and then unplug. He was the first to say to unplug and that the update could take up to a week or two

7-23-24 Spoke with [REDACTED] – “very nice lady” She ran test and said not to leave plugged in that a tech would call when my turn for update

7-25-24 Spoke with [REDACTED] ran test and he wrote a letter to management requesting control board

7-26-24 Friday spoke with [REDACTED] for 65 min he said that I have the lattest update. Apparently I’ve been lied to this whole time he sent me step by step procedures to connect wifi and one for [REDACTED]. That this would fix the problem apparently this unit can not function without wifi I exchanged my router for a new one contacted [ILLEGIBLE] and they made sure that my wifi was only 2.4HZ and showed me how to do it as well. I followed every step from Pit Boss and from my wifi provider and had the router sitting right beside the smoker with my laptop to confirm wifi connection.

7-27-24 I called Pit Boss after 2 hours of following every instruction given to me. I spoke with [REDACTED] “very nice lady” She made sure that all the steps were followed. Asked for pictures and wrote upper management requesting a new control panel. I started getting start up malfunction errors and would shut down the unit and that I could use the unit that if it smoked out to open door to keep from pressuring unit and blowing glass out of the Door

7-27-24 I started cooking two whole chickens. The unit kept swing in temp and I had to keep watch and open the door when it did, to prevent the unit from pressuring up and blowing the glass out then the smoker started shooting flames out from the bottom and sides. There is two thick gauged pieces of metal around the pellet tray and the metal was so hot that it turned translucent and the flames could be seen through the two pieces of metal. I feared that the 70 lbs pellet hopper would catch fire which I read in complaints that has happened.

7-29-24 I returned the Pit Boss smoker back to lowes. 7-29-24 11:17AM I called Pit Boss and told them what had happened. I explained how this unit is a huge personal + property safety issue. How this is a well document complaint, with Lowes customers and on the Consumer Product Safety Act. That even their employees of Pit boss said that this is a well known issue.
