  1. No one hurt

Made May 29, 2014, sent to the company Jun 6, 2014, published by CPSC Jul 21, 2014

The product, in the report: Kay Home Products, trading as MarshAllan, 18”X10” Cast Iron Hibachi Charcoal Grill, UPC 47977 30052, 90 McMillan Road, Antioch IL 60002-1845, tel. 800/635-3831

We ordered Kay Home Products Hibachi Grill Model 30052. Upon first use, the wooden handle for the grid-iron came loose because the metal tang/haft is way t too short. Because the item was only warm at the time, no injury occurred; however, such an ill fitting handle is a burn hazard. The tang/haft needs to be much longer to ensure proper seating and retention.

The 3rd time we used the hibachi, we bbq’d chicken, which took longer than the steak, and hamburgers we did the first two times. I went indoors to get utensils and a pot holder. I returned only moments later to discover that the shortness of the handle placed it too near a chicken-fat flaring charcoal. The flimsy handle was badly charred after only a very short period of time. Again, this is a fire and burn hazard.

Lastly, the leg brackets are so short, placing this hibachi on any item other than one made completely out of non-combustibles is likely to cause a fire or collapse of the stand on which it is placed.
