No incident, no one hurt Made Feb 6, 2023, sent to the company Feb 28, 2023, published by CPSC Mar 14, 2023
The product, in the report: Char-Griller Legacy charcoal grill marketed and sold exclusively through Lowes home improvement stores. Inspections of additional new grills at Lowes store revealed same findings.
Char-griller, a subsidiary of The Middleby Corporation, Legacy charcoal grill has paint overspray inside of grill chamber and lid, paint marks near hinges inside cooking chamber and the charcoal grate lifting mechanism is coated in several areas with a high-temp paint not suitable for use inside of a high-temperature cooking environment near direct flames and combustible cooking fuels. The paint has begun to deteriorate as early as one usage and exposes anyone using this type of grill to toxic chemicals and cancer-causing compounds. Whether this paint is applied by implicit design or a manufacturing process flaw is unknown. This product is highly unsafe and unfit for consumer use. An inspection of additional Char-Griller Legacy grills revealed identical product conditions. This grill is sold through Lowes.

No one hurt Made Dec 6, 2017, sent to the company Apr 5, 2018, published by CPSC Apr 19, 2018

I purchased a Akron CharGriller back in June 2017 from Lowes in Stafford.
I have written the company previously regarding this grill. The wooded handle cracked and I requested a new one.
On December 4, 2017, I decided to Chargill and smoke some meat. As I went to load my grill the entire top came off. The bolts that fasten to the grill completely failed. This is a safety issue. The lid cover came completely off and it weighs at least 20+ pounds or more. The grill can’t be safely operated and lid . It seems like when the grill lid and bottom gets hot the lid would not stay upright. The metal fails and the lid completely falls back and becomes paraell or flushed with the grill grate level or hits the ground. (take your pick) Once I open the lid it completely came off and fell upright on the deck. The whole grill could have flip with the coals lit and everything could been set a blaze.
I continue to cook my food but I had to lift the hot lid and place it down on the ground. During the operation I know was at risk of catching my deck on fire because I had to reach over the top of the grill. I had to place lid on my deck each time I wanted to load the charcoal, wood chips, turn the meat and remove the meat. The lid is heavy and hot. I could have burned myself.
I requested Chargriller replace the whole grill and they refused too. I would like a recall notice to be served for this grill. The bottom metal has overheated and failed. The bolts are either not heat resistant or they aren’t the proper length. Here is the model number MODEL 06719
Here is the serial number. 19032092c.
I don’t know how this happen. My grill is covered and I treat it pretty good plus it is only 6 months old.
I have contacted Chargriller as well at this email address:
service@chargriller.com
I paid over $300.00 for this grill and it has turned out to be a lemon and a fire hazard.
I need an entire replacement grill at this point or refund.
