The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Hi, Lectric E-Bikes has sold a model (XP 3.0) of bicycle which has defective brakes. They have issued a “service bulletin” silently in a corner of their website informing owners that they must regularly (in my experience, at least every two weeks) adjust the brake cables to compensate. They recommended that owners not comfortable with adjusting their brakes take their bike to a shop, but offer no compensation for any labor that these shops may charge. The service bulletin is here: https://help.lectricebikes.com/article/8hgjinfvtg-xp-3-0-brake-service-bulletin https://files.helpdocs.io/djeddasp2e/other/1684447682318/lectric-safety-bulletin-2.pdf

Additionally, Lectric has started shipping hydraulic brakes on new units of this bicycle, that are not affected by this issue. Owners of existing units were meant to receive an email by “mid-July” with a link to order the brake upgrade kit for free. At the end of July, I had received no such email. I contacted them, and received a link to the form. This form stated on it that in order to get the upgrade for free, one must submit the form by July 31st. Notably, the link to this form is not published on their website, and has not been publicized in any manner that I can locate. Perhaps it was sent in a sales newsletter, but that is not sufficient given the issue at hand.

Lectric once again provides no compensation for labor charged by bicycle repair shops to install this new brake set, which is absurd given the safety-critical nature, and the fact that the original brakes were defective.

In my opinion, a recall should be issued, and Lectric should be forced to provide new brakes swiftly, and pay for all repairs relating to this matter.
