The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Emergency room

Made Aug 7, 2023, sent to the company Aug 9, 2023, published by CPSC Aug 23, 2023

The product, in the report: These are the plastic fenders that Aventon sells separately from the Soltera 7-speed e-bike and can be found online at https://www.aventon.com/products/aventon-soltera-fender?variant=41697521041603. Notably, these apparent to be the only fenders sold by Aventon where the brackets suspend the fenders over the wheels to keep off dirt and mud sit on the inside of the fenders closes to the wheel. This design choice appears to be what caused my accident.

I had a serious bike accident that resulted in a concussion and facial lacerations, and could have been much worse. It appears that the accident was caused by a design defect in the fenders sold separately with the bike. This is the Aventon Soltera 7-speed e-bike (https://www.aventon.com/products/soltera-ebike?variant=41304326865091) and the fenders that I believe caused the accident can be found at: https://www.aventon.com/products/aventon-soltera-fender?variant=41697521041603. I was riding the bike as intended and without warning the bike stopped, going from approximately 18-20mph to a full stop immediately when the fender caught onto the wheel. I landed on my head (wearing a helmet) and was unconscious for a period of time before being transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

The product, in the report: Aventon Sinch folding electric bike, black: https://www.aventon.com/products/aventon-sinch-foldable-electric-bike

I purchased an Aventon Sinch (folding bike). When it arrived the rear disk brakes did not fully release rendering the rear brake useless. I took it to [REDACTED] who stated the brake lines were kinked by the manufacturer.

The product, in the report: Aventon Pace 500 E-Bike

Aventon makes e-bikes with “throttle after pedal”. You can only get power when you initiate pedaling and then the bike lurches forward very quickly and unnaturally. This has caused many accidents and injuries (read their website comments or social media). They have a fix for this called “Throttle on Demand”. The power only comes on when you demand it and are aware of it. This fix works well and makes the bike much safer. They should recall their bikes and install this fix. Instead they are requiring their customers to pay $179 for the part and then labor at a bike shop. To make matters worse, the part has been unavailable for almost a year.
