The product, in the report: Ancheer e-bike Model AMA005637, 21 speed; 26 inch; blue
I plugged in the electric battery for my Ancheer ebike Model AMA5637 to charge it, and it sparked, smoked, and had an acrid burning smell. Even when I unplugged it from the outlet, as soon as I plug the charger to the battery, it still generated a large spark, smoke, and a burning smell.

No one hurt Made Jul 9, 2020, sent to the company Aug 26, 2020, published by CPSC Sep 10, 2020
The product, in the report: The Ancheer Power Plus upgraded model 500 Watt motor and 12.5 AH battery. Black with red and white accents. VIN [REDACTED] stamped on front of head tube. 26” x 1.95 tires. 21 speeds (3x7).
Approximately March 1st 2020, when the weather had warmed enough to make biking comfortable, I set out to test the Pedal Assist Function (PAS) capability on my new Ebike. On the lowest setting (1) when I pedaled, the bike accelerated to about 18 mph. This is faster than you can pedal the bike in the highest mechanical gear, meaning you are not in control of the speed. You must hit either brake or stop pedaling to regain control. The brake cuts power immediately, but there is a delay after you cease pedaling. This behavior on a crowded bike path or city streets where there may be obstacles or need for care could easily cause an accident. The expected behavior would be gentle acceleration to something more like 5-7 mph, where the bicyclist could keep up or at least avoid obstacles, steer around pedestrians etc. The higher levels of Pedal Assist Mode go even faster. Other ebikes I’ve tried have much more reasonable speeds for pedal assistance mode. Fortunately, I was testing the bike on a smooth, level stretch of road with no traffic, so no one was hurt and I simply don’t use the pedal assist mode as it’s unduly hazardous even where conditions permit the speed. The ebike company has asked for data and explanations over and over, but has done nothing to correct the problem. I have found others who said they have the same problem with this bike. Here are the youtube links for one review.
[REDACTED]
It is a little hard to explain but over a dozen emails should have got the message across to people who _build_ ebikes. Even with a language barrier.
I am a fan of ebikes and hate to do anything to discourage their adoption, but they should undergo some testing and QA.
