The product, in the report: Vermont Castings Montpellier II cast iron wood burning insert with electric blower.

I opened the door to my Vermont Castings Monpellier II wood burning insert and the door fell off. Since we had been burning wood all day, the door was several hundred degrees. Luckily, I had appropriate fire and heat resistant gloves on and was able to hold on to the handle of the door. The door is cast iron and glass. Upon inspection, the screws holding the door hinge assembly had all loosened to the point that the top screw holding the hinge to the stove came out completely. Tonight I was able to reassemble and tighten all screws to safely place the unit back in service. However, I feel this was a huge safety issue and could have been a lot worse if my partner or one of her children were the one who opened the door.

The product, in the report: CFM Corp. Recalls Sequoia Wood Burning Fireplaces for Fire Hazard

My home burned to the ground due to :CFM Corp. Recalls Sequoia Wood Burning Fireplaces for Fire Hazard. The fire started out of the top back area of the unit and through the chase on the outside of the house. We were never notified of a recall and lost our home of 25 years and everything we ever owned. We also lost out cat in the fire.

The product, in the report: Vermont Castings, Merrimack woodburning fireplace insert.

I purchased a Vermont Castings Merrimack wood burning insert for my fireplace in October. Whenever a door to the unit is opened, a surge of smoke comes out of the unit, into my house. I have purchased a carbon monoxide detector, and have placed it near the unit when I open the door, and sure enough, activates the detector, and notes that the carbon monoxide is above 250. The Vermont Castings person came to my house and said this is normal. Really? Putting carbon monoxide in my house, along with smoke is NOT healthy. Is there any way you can check this product for safety? ________________________ SMOKE SHOULD NOT ENTER THE HOUSE FROM THE FIREPLACE INSERT.
