  1. No one hurt

Made May 3, 2018, sent to the company Jul 18, 2018, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2018

The product, in the report: Factory built fireplace. Phenix Green 120. Manufacturer Bodart & Gonay.

Purchased factory built fireplace Phenix Green 120 from Wittus, New York, manufacturer Bodart & Gonay. Fireplace installed fall 2017, but did not finish the covering as we wanted to evaluate the performance before deciding on the venting on the top of the fireplace. Started on the finish work and noticed a large burned area directly below the 10”x10” opening underneath the fireplace. Contacted Wittus who suggested an ember rolled underneath. Used a mirror to look underneath and noticed the metal was discolored. Also used a thermometer and measured approximately 350F without burning a hot fire.

Contacted [REDACTED] who is listed as the certification company for UL 127 on the fireplace. According to [REDACTED], they withdrew their support for Bodart & Gonay 10/23/2012. Our fireplace was manufactured 03/23/2016 with [REDACTED] listed as the certification company.

Have been trying to resolve the issue with Wittus, but no response. Could possibly be many other consumers in my situation unaware that the fireplace is far from safe.

    Have pictures/documentation is desired.
