  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Aug 10, 2024, sent to the company Aug 15, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 29, 2024

The product, in the report: Rheem R98VB085M521USA Prestige gas furnace installed March 2019.

New Rheem R98VB085M521USA furnace had gas leak because valve in manifold was not closing properly. Problem occurred multiple times, manifold replaced twice by heating company (Glendale Heating under Rheem warranty). Current new manifold seems to fix the problem, but a gas leak is a severe problem that may impact others and should not happen on a new Rheem furnace.

The product, in the report: Rheem furnace HTPV pipe connecting to furnace and venting to exterior of home model # RGDG-07EAUER serial# CY5D302 F2494 9476

We have a Rheem furnace in a house that we purchased March 23, 2001. There apparently had been a recall issued on the HPTV pipe that vented from the furnace to outside on February 24, 1998. The owner at that time did not have the pipe replaced. The recall stated that the pipe could crack or separate, creating a potentially deadly threat from carbon monoxide poisoning. On March 5, 2016 my entire family went to the emergency room with carbon monoxide poisoning. The gas company came out to our home and stated that the pipe that connected to the flue had, in fact, separated and was putting carbon monoxide gas into our home. We have a very high bill from the emergency room and also have the expense of replacing our furnace. Not sure where or who should have caught this issue. We have had at least 3 different companies come out and work on our furnace, but no one ever caught this until we just received an estimate from Small Solutions in Winchester, VA to replace the furnace system.
