The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 19, 2013, sent to the company May 1, 2013, published by CPSC May 15, 2013

The product, in the report: Brunham Holiday boiler Series: 2 Net I=B=R: 121,700 BTU/hr Fuel: NAT

Both safety and manual shut-offs failed to work on a residential Brunman Holiday boiler control. A Honeywell valve is on the broiler, it failed. The valve is described as Combination Gas Control for Heating Appliances. It has three positions: OFF, PILOT AND ON.

Neither of the safety functions to shut off the gas flow functioned when tested. The two problems identified with the equipment are: 1) Gas flows through the control unit independent of the position of the valve control knob, and 2) Gas flow continues independent of whether or not the pilot light is lit.

Fortunately this problem was found by the homeowner’s father during a safety check. We have shut off the gas flow using an upstream manual valve. We will have the gas company and a HVAC contractor inspect and repair, as needed, the entire boiler control system before using it again.
