Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 14, 2026, sent to the company Oct 19, 2026, published by CPSC Nov 2, 2026
The product, in the report: The product is an air purifier which is advertised as effective against formaldehyde and other indoor toxic pollutants.
I purchased the Dyson Purifier Big Quiet Formaldehyde air purifier through Amazon. As others have reported, this air filter emitted such toxic plastic fumes that the entire room in which it was used will now require remediation as the fumes have permeated the rug, furniture, curtains and all materials within the room. Had I read the complete reviews of this product, I would never have purchased it. Dyson is apparently aware of the issue as their “recommendation” is to run the unit in a garage for two days to remediate the off-gassing from the purifier itself. An air purifier which itself causes off-gassing is not a safe product, and causes significant health issues including exacerbation of asthma, sore throat and eye irritation. This is a toxic product which should not be sold in its current form and should be recalled.

No one hurt Made Dec 17, 2025, sent to the company Dec 23, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 12, 2026
The product, in the report: The product involved is the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde HP09 (White/Gold). It is a multifunction household appliance designed for indoor residential use that combines an air purifier, space heater, and cooling fan in a single unit. The unit is tall and freestanding, approximately 30 inches in height with an oval-shaped loop amplifier at the top and a cylindrical base that houses the internal motor, heating elements, sensors, and filtration system. The color of the unit is white with gold accents, consistent with Dysons HP09 design. The product uses a standard 120-volt AC power supply and is intended to be plugged directly into a wall outlet using its attached power cord and molded electrical plug. It contains a sealed HEPA and activated carbon filter system designed to remove particulate matter, gases, and formaldehyde from indoor air. The HP09 is marketed for continuous indoor operation in living spaces such as bedrooms, offices, and common household areas, and it is controlled via an onboard display and a remote control. I own two identical Dyson HP09 units, both purchased in December 2024, and both still within the manufacturers 2-year limited warranty period at the time of the incident.
On November 27, 2025, I experienced a fire incident involving a Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde HP09 (White/Gold). I own two HP09 units, both purchased in December 2024 (12/16/24 and 12/17/24) and both still within their 2-year warranty period. The incident occurred in my home during normal use. One HP09 was plugged directly into a standard wall outlet in my living/working area and had been running on a normal setting for approximately 25 minutes. I was seated about eight feet away when I heard an unusual noise. When I looked over, I saw an actual flame coming from the plug area of the Dysons power cord, at the point where the plug meets the outlet. There was no prior sparking, smoke, or visible damage to the outlet before the ignition. The flame was clearly originating from the plug itself, not from inside the wall. I immediately ran over and unplugged the unit from the outlet; once the plug was removed from the outlet, the flame went out. The Dyson units cord/plug are damaged and unsafe to use. No one was physically injured, but this was a serious fire hazard; if I had not been present in the room, the outcome could have been much worse. To reiterate, no other appliance has ever caused overheating, fire, or electrical disruption in this outlet before or after the incident. The pattern of similar complaints from other consumers, combined with Dysons past recalls for fire-related hazards, heightens concern that this may represent a broader product defect requiring investigation. It is also important to note that Dyson previously issued a major recall on the Dyson Hot+Cool heaters (models AM04 and AM05) due to electrical shortcircuiting that caused fires. Although the HP09 is a newer model, this recall demonstrates that Dyson products have a history of thermal and electrical risks significant enough to warrant national safety action. My experience closely mirrors the symptoms that led to those earlier recalls. Furthermore, Dyson, Inc. has over 3,000 customer complaints in the last three years on the [REDACTED] platform, many of which involve product malfunctions, warranty disputes, or service issues. This volume of complaints reinforces a broader pattern of unresolved product reliability concerns. The product was being used exactly as intended: plugged directly into a wall outlet (no extension cords or power strips), running as an air purifier/heater in a residential room. The outlet in question has been used for other household appliances without any issues before or after this event. The only product that has ever caused overheating or fire at that outlet is this Dyson HP09. In addition, my second HP09 unit (same model) failed internally prior to this fire incident. It began displaying repeated error messages and stopped functioning despite following all recommended troubleshooting steps (power cycling, resets, filter checks, and cleaning). In summary, one HP09 failed internally and became unusable, and the other HP09s plug caught fire during normal operation. Because this product is designed for indoor, continuous use, and because the fire originated at the plug while the device was being used as directed, I am reporting this as a potential product defect and safety hazard.

No one hurt Made Feb 8, 2023, sent to the company Feb 22, 2023, published by CPSC Mar 8, 2023
The product, in the report: Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link, Air Purifier (heater and fan)
I purchased a Dyson Pure Hot and Cool link Air Purifier from Costco In December 2022, while using it in a bedroom, it burned and melted one of the electrical outlets it was plugged into (without tripping the circuit breaker). The room filled with smoke and the wall also became dangerously hot. I tried it in another outlet and that outlet started to burn as well. I very concerned that there is a defect in this product making it a fire hazard. I contacted Dyson about this, and they are have not responded to my concerns, offering only to repair the unit after I drive it nearly two hours to one of their service centers. I would recommend that this problem be identified as I believe it can cause house fires.
