The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 3, 2021, sent to the company Oct 5, 2021, published by CPSC Oct 20, 2021

The product, in the report: Dehumidifier

The consumer indicates that she turned on her dehumidifier approximately one month ago. The unit was working fine for about one week when she noticed that it would not turn off despite reaching its set humidity. The consumer had to unplug the unit as the turn-off button would not work. A couple of hours later the consumer plugged the unit back and she noticed that it was still on; the dehumidifier started sparking immediately. The consumer unplugged the unit, plugged it on a different socket, and it started sparking again.

The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative she spoke to informed her they could not assist her because the unit was neither under warranty nor included in a recall.

The consumer states that the dehumidifier is turned on approximately four times per year for about one week each use. The consumer notes this is the third replacement dehumidifier she has received as the previous two failed for the exact reason.

The consumer plans on keeping her dehumidifier for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: 50 pint dehumidifier, white in color, 21 pint tank volume, H: 24.5in, D: 12.6in, W: 15.5in.

Dehumidifier running but different noise then usual. Went to unit and noticed a burning smell and the air coming from the top vent very hot. Back of unit also hot to the touch. Pressed Off button with no response; unplugged unit. Unit was in Normal mode with humidity set at 50% which allows the unit to cycle on and off automatically to maintain the humidity setting.

The product, in the report: White 30 pint portable dehumidifier

This report concerns a True Value Westpointe 30 pint dehumidifier model MDF1-30AE manufactured Feb of 2008. On or about April 25th of this year the unit emitted smoke and the compressor quit running. There was no damage to my home or contents other than the dehumidifier itself. I have found this unit was manufactured by GD Media, the same as the manufacturer of the [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] units recalled for fire hazard and manufactured in the same time frame. I can find no recall of the TV units and feel that since they are the same model number and manufacture time period, the recall should be extended to include the True Value units. True Value’s item number is 843-944.
