The product, in the report: Similar to LG Electronics USA Model LHD459EL Dehumidifier. Sold through Home Depot in 2006-07 NOTE report from expert states that the subject dehumidifier was substantially similar to the model number identified above and similar to other dehumidifiers manufactured by LG. We are trying to ascertain a serial number The model number is LHD459EL.
Fire on June 11,2013 at residence located W 131 S 8448 Eagles Way, Muskego, Wisconsin. Smoke and fire damage exceeded $500,000. The fire was caused by an arcing incident within a dehumidifier. The dehumidifier was examined and determined to be the cause of the fire. Attached is the Report of the two experts. My law firm, Greg Cook Law, S.C. first became involved in this incident in late April. We gathered the information and learned that similar dehumidifiers manufactured by the same company had been recalled for fire hazards. See Release #01-130, 10-096 and 11-324. This unit model number does not appear on any of the recalls. This unit is described in the report as one SIMILAR to Model LHD459EL dehumidifier manufactured by LG. My concern was that the engineers referred to manuals for models LHD30, LHD45EL, UD65EL, LD450EAL, and LD451 EGL as well as the schematics for Model LDSOELY6 since the homeowner did not have any manuals in his possession. Homeowner purchased unit in 2006-07 from a Home Depot, according to his recollection. I suspect the other recalls involve similarly designed machines with almost identical wiring problems that were found in this unit. Arcing was the reported cause in other fires and from what I could see it may have been a similar defect. The unit is in the custody of State Farm Mutual Fire Insurance company. We are trying to verify if the serial number or other information can be gleaned from the unit.
