The product, in the report: The color is gray , 40 litre dehumidifier

The dehumidifier was used in a crawl space basement . I had worked great , it would beep when water needed to be dumped . Today we went to check on it , opened the door to the crawl space and smelled a horrible burning smell of plastic ..... we looked around to where we thought the smell was coming from . My husband got close to the unit and could smell plastic . He touched the back of the unit and it was so hot to touch . He said the water bucket was dry and he just changed it a couple days ago , it should have had some water in it . It never beeped to report any problem . We were very fortunate to say that we could have lost our home because of the unit . We were never notified of any recall and have had this unit many years and it worked wonderful until now . I was upset that I was not notified about the unit recall years ago . I still have our book on the unit . This was purchased at a retail outlet , it was about 279.00 when we got it years ago . I will get hold of my fire department to let them know that this unit is dangerous . Please let me know what I can do now ....... not sure I wan another GE Unit . I worked for GE for 20 years and had great pride in the appliances . [REDACTED]
