The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Dehumidifier

Caller purchased his dehumidifier in May 2012. The unit remained on but set to automatic so when needed it ran and when not needed it did not run. This caller had no problems with it until December 10th, 2014 when he noticed that the plastic on the top melting. He removed the top of the dehumidifier then observed that it was also melting inside. He turned it off then unplugged it to prevent a fire and it has remained unplugged. He is reporting this unit due to the potential for fire and burn hazard. There are no injuries being reported.

He tried to contact the manufacturer but at this time has been able to obtain a live person only one time and that person told him they would call him back but has not.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Dehumidifier

The consumer would like to file a report against the company.

9/21/2014 The consumer noticed that his unit turns on by itself. When he tried to turn it off the unit it would not shut off.

9/24/2014 The consumer contacted the company and provided the product’s information. The representative he spoke to informed him that his specific unit was not included in any recall. Because of this same reason, the consumer was told that there was nothing they could do to repair his unit and that any repairs would have to be paid for by the consumer himself.

The consumer reports no injuries or property damage due to the defective unit. He also states that he has never had any problems prior to this incident with the unit. The consumer believes his product poses both a safety and fire hazard and, therefore, should be included in the recall list.
