The product, in the report: Honeywell TruSTEAM Direct Injection Humidifier

The product is a whole house humidifier attached to the furnace. It humidifies by boiling water to inject steam into the hot air coming from the furnace. I noticed that water was dripping from the humidifier. Water and steam was coming out of the side of the system where the top and bottom connect. The heat of the steam had started to melt the plastic in that area. If this had not been caught, hot water could have dripped onto the furnaces electrical components or onto someone who may have been working around it.

After further inspection, I noticed that the gasket between the top and bottom of the unit had broken allowing steam to escape. Considering that the system is designed to boil water, I found it very unnerving that the plastic housing had started to melt.

There were no injuries involved with this incident.
