  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 6, 2015, sent to the company Feb 18, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 4, 2015

The product, in the report: True Steam whole house humidifier holds about a gallon of water Grey in color, plastic.

Honeywell True Steam whole house humidifier has failed 3 times now in as many years. The first model HM506 1000/085786 was installed 1/25/11 and boiled steam and boiling water all over the walls and floor in October 2013 because the plastic it was made out of could not tolerate the heat and literally melted itself rupturing the bucket that holds the boiling water. This could have caused severe scalding had someone been in the room when it happened. This unit was replaced because it was still under the 5 year warranty with Model # HM506W1005/214438 ON 11/25/2013 and failed again on 12/31/2014 this time the plastic mounting literally shattered from the exposure to steam/ heat and the tubing under the unit also leaked all over the floor setting off the water alarm at 3 am. The unit NEVER automatically shut off recognizing it’s own failure to keep water level up. And the plastic the parts are made of are not able to withstand the temperatures necessary for the purpose of the product. Not only is this dangerous, but is has proved to be ridiculously expensive for this consumer. I contacted Honeywell because the product is under warranty the reported to me that they would be appropriately responsive, however, they have not sent the promised email, nor have they returned my calls. They have a tape-recorded phone call from 2/4/15 where I was told they would undoubtedly refund the cost to me of new install kit, however they now are not returning my calls. I have about $2,000.00 spent on this product to date.
