The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Mybaby humidifier and sound machine made by Homedics

We have a Mybaby sound machine and humidifier made by Homedics. The device is half humidifier (top-half) and half sound machine (bottom-half). We use it as a noise machine and humidifier in the winter and as just a noise machine in the summer.

We were using just the sound machine (bottom-half) and placed it on the carpet floor outside of our baby’s [playpen]. The speaker (for the noise machine) is underneath the device so we turned it upside down to prevent the noise from being muffled by the carpet.

We noticed a smell, similar to burning plastic, coming from our baby’s room. The topside portion of the device that was touching the carpet, just inches away from the [playpen] in which our baby was sleeping, was burning and melting.
