The product, in the report: Honeywell Cool Mist Humidifier
I purchased a Honeywell ‘Cool Mist’ humidifier in on or about 6 March 2023 and began using the humidifier with tap water. The instruction manual stated that the use of the humidifier with tap water may produce a ‘white dust’ but it would not damage the humidifier. For the following three months that ensued, I developed respiratory problems that worsened and culminated in my hospitalization for pneumonia in late May/early June of this year. I was living in Las Vegas, Nevada at this time but I have subsequently moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas. I have been diagnosed with emphysema and permanent lung damage.

No one hurt Made Nov 10, 2014, sent to the company Nov 26, 2014, published by CPSC Dec 11, 2014
The product, in the report: Warm mist humidifier, Honeywell Model # HWM-340. Product burned so there are no detail regarding mfg date or serial number
I am writing in regard to a warm mist humidifier model #HWM-340 manufactured for/by Kaz USA that resulted in fire during normal operation last week. The humidifier was filled during the day and then we had forgotten to refill before we went to bed. Normally if the water level got too low the unit would shut off and the refill light would come on, but overnight the auto shut-off function failed and all the water boiled off resulting in the unit overheating. I awoke at 6:30 AM last Tuesday to the fire alarms going off in my house and my living room filled with smoke. When I went downstairs, the humidifier was in full flames but luckily I had a fire extinguisher handy and was able to put the fire out before my house or furniture caught fire. The unit has water level indicator that shuts the unit off when the water drops below a certain level, but the unit does not have any type of overheating protection if the unit is run without water. There are warnings in the manual not to operate without water, but if the fill level system fails, then there is nothing to prevent the unit from overheating and catching fire. The 15 AMP circuit breaker to the outlet also tripped but not before the unit caught fire. The unit is about 1-1/2 years old.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 24, 2014, sent to the company Apr 1, 2014, published by CPSC Apr 15, 2014
The product, in the report: Humidifier
After about 2 weeks of use, a Honeywell branded humidifier, Model HCM-315T Series, caused the occupants of the bedroom where it was being used to become dizzy and weak, especially after an evening spent in the direct vicinity of the unit in question.
My investigation showed the unit was emitting an odor reminiscent of Dioxin (as in polychlorinated dibenzodioxins). The source was quickly found at the junction of the motor shaft, spinning very quickly within a slowly spinning plastic blower cage at the unit’s bottom. The difference in rotation speed yielded heat, burning the plastic.
