The product, in the report: Black Holmes Ultrasonic Cylinder Humidifier HM411-BTU-FCA (I believe this is the case from photos, however the product is damaged and we no longer have the box.)
Holmes Ultrasonic Cylinder Humidifier HM411-BTU-FCA (I believe from pictures, as we no longer have the box, and the unit is damaged.) We received this product new in the box this winter, and began using it in early January of 2018. We fill the humidifier tank each night and turn it on in my son’s room to help ease his congestion (originally from the flu). The humidifier was plugged into the wall, sitting on a nightstand, and was filled and turned on last night. This morning, I woke to the smell of an electrical fire. The humidifier unit was burning, with the entire bottom melted and water covering the nightstand and floor. Luckily I caught it before it ignited anything else, and was able to quickly remove it from the house and douse it in the yard. The only damage was to the unit itself, and burn marks/melted plastic on the nightstand.

The product, in the report: Holmes Filter Free Warm Mist Humidifier model HM5305
My family purchased a new Holmes HM5305 Humidifier at Target approximately 3-4 months ago. Today while cleaning the unit I noticed what appears to be rust dripping from the inside control panel down into the water reservoir. Upon closer examination the internal controls are badly corroded and rusting. This is a concern for several reasons. Those that immediately come to mind are:
1) This is a fire hazard. The product was designed to handle water and electricity. It should be able to operate without the humidifying function interacting with and destroying the electrical components.
2) I suspect that rusty water from the corroded control panel dripping into the water reservoir contaminates the water being vaporized into the air we breath.

No one hurt Made Feb 6, 2012, sent to the company Feb 14, 2012, published by CPSC Feb 29, 2012
The product, in the report: Holmes model HM5250 humidifier
Holmes humidifier Model HM5250 caught fire overnight in my son’s bedroom. The heating element melted through the plastic housing and burnt a hole in carpet through to the sub floor. It was probably smoldering for some time before eventually catching fire and setting off our fire alarm. It was put out quickly without injury.
