How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 2 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 7, 2013, sent to the company Mar 19, 2013, published by CPSC Apr 2, 2013

The product, in the report: Crane Warm Mist One Gallon White Humidifier, Model EE-5200W

We smelled a toxic electrical burning smell which was coming from our 1.5 year old daughter’s bedroom. It turns out that the plastic on the bottom of the humidifier had melted and oozed out onto the hardwood floor. The inside of the humidifier is black and charred from an electrical issue. I have attached a few pictures of the bottom of the humidifier.

I feel very fortunate that no one was injured in this incident. I do feel strongly that this and similar products that are manufactured/sold by Crane need to be investigated and recalled so that no one is harmed or possibly killed by these products.

In looking into this issue a bit further I have found that our incident is not the only one of its kind. I see that there are at least 10 customer reviews since December 2011 on Amazon.com, where our humidifier was purchased, that indicate similar issues of melting/smoking/fire.

The product, in the report: Crane brand Blue Bear Humidifier

Our Crane brand Blue Bear humidifier started smoking and almost caught fire. Thank god we were in the room at the time. I would hate to think what may have happened if it was overnight when our child was sleeping. The humidifier was less than one year old and only used on occasion.
