Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Viking 5 series purchased in 2020
Smelled smoke last night. Woke up to check and couldn’t find where it was coming from. Went near the range and it smelled stronger there but no smoke and no fire present. Then I saw what looked like melting burning plastic drip on the front left side of the oven. All of a sudden, the flames grew so I used my extinguisher. No injuries. No one was using the product. It was 9:30pm and I smelled smoke. I called Viking and they only seem to care about their recall, not any other product defects.

Emergency room Made Dec 19, 2019, sent to the company Jan 14, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 29, 2020
The product, in the report: Viking dual wall oven. Stainless steel.
Brand new oven door became lose and fell. While trying to catch its fall, spring load hinge went off on my thumb and caused deep laceration. Called Viking and they sent tech who determined a small piece of metal was bent and cause problem. Tech also identified that oven door on upper over (dual wall oven) also had weakness and will require repairs or same issue will happen.

No one hurt Made Nov 14, 2019, sent to the company Dec 13, 2019, published by CPSC Dec 31, 2019
The product, in the report: 48” Viking Range; 8 burner top; double oven (one large convection & other smaller)
Viking Range was fined for ranges that turn on by themselves (article dated 4/17/17) for 15 models sold between 2007 & 2014.
We have a Viking Range that was purchased in 2017 when our home was under construction. It is Model # VGCC548*; Serial Number 012417C*.
On 11/9/19 the oven ignited by itself in the middle of the night; our fire alarm went off & woke us. The house was filled with smoke; we have to flip the circuit breaker to turn the oven off. It was super-heated & left marks on our brick back-splash. It also melted the igniter & safety features of the oven, as well as the mechanisms for the sliding racks. I phoned Viking the next day to report the issue & was told to call a service provider to have the oven fixed, but Viking is not liable because our serial number wasn’t under their recall list. She further stated that there have been no complaints with my particular unit, to which I responded, ‘please log this as an official complaint’, which she didn’t.
I called Lakeview Service, which is the provider recommended by Viking and they came to our home on 11/13. The specialist that serviced the oven said it looked exactly like the previous problems that occurred as part of the recall program and this was a major safety issue, although the part in the oven read as the updated version.
Clearly, Viking has not remedied the faulty part issues that caused this. I called them back after the service tech left and & they’re blanket answer again was “that’s not one of the recall ranges”, albeit the exact circumstances around the previous problem were evident. The customer service person stated to send her the service notes from the technician and she’d send to management but doubted it would be covered. She refused information about the manager to whom the information would be sent; I emailed the service notes; no feedback as of yet.
Viking needs to be revisited about this issue, as there’s no such thing as a coincidence. Although my unit may not be under the recall provision, the exact circumstances occurred, which can lead one to logically conclude the manufacturing defect has not been remedied. Had we not been home and the fire alarm not gone off, I’m unsure the result that would have occurred to our home, our animals, and our possessions. It’s quite a frightening thought.
As a businessman, I’d venture to guess they did a cost/benefit on the number of instances versus cost to fix and did nothing in the hopes that they could squash the whole issue and castigate anyone who called in the future as not being under the recall provision.

No one hurt Made Feb 4, 2019, sent to the company Mar 12, 2019, published by CPSC Mar 26, 2019
The product, in the report: Viking freestanding range
Viking Range turns on broiler when baking. This has happened several times and only had slightly burned top of food being baked. Last night it ignited food. I am aware that my Viking Range model number is in the Viking voluntary recall but its manufacturing date is about a month out of the range they have included. This is a danger and needs to be addressed.

The product, in the report: Viking Stove
Viking Range that cost $8K turned on by itself and caught fire. Would have burned my house down had we not been at home, and gotten the Fire Department’s assistance. Viking is taking its time getting back to me. I would NOT buy another Viking stove.

The product, in the report: Viking Range Serial Number VGSC 5486QSS
I have a recalled Viking range. I have called Viking three times since July and they have yet to make the repair. The repair company never got the kit, then they got an incomplete kit and now they are saying the kit was sent to me, but I never got one. It’s now SEPTEMBER and I am still living with a stove that could turn itself on at any time! How many times to I have to call them to get the repair done? Aren’t they required to do it?

No one hurt Made Nov 12, 2014, sent to the company Dec 2, 2014, published by CPSC Dec 16, 2014
The product, in the report: Combination Oven -- Microwave, Steam, Convection
The trays on this unit have no stops to prevent the trays from tilting out and down thus allowing whatever is on the tray (s) from spilling, splashing, or falling onto both the door of the unit as well as onto the consumer. I feel this is a serious design flaw and poses a potential risk to the user. I contacted Viking LLC and spoke with their Customer Support to determine if my oven was defective but was assured that this is not a defect and the unit was not designed to have stops to prevent the trays from sliding all the way out and falling down. I have used this unit several times and even though I have tried to be very careful when sliding the trays out of the oven, it is very difficult to find just the right position to remove the contents from the oven tray and not allow the tray to tilt down. This is a fairly expensive product and is probably not widely used in consumer kitchens but I feel that you have a mandate to investigate the safety of this product since it is sold and available for purchase and does pose a safety risk. This unit is a Viking VCS021SS and the serial number of my unit is 210w000891. I contacted Customer Service on 11/12/14.

The product, in the report: Viking Wall Oven Model number LVESO130SS
A screw fell into my food from the top of a Viking oven (Model LVESO130SS). No injuries incurred since I immediately noticed the screw on the pan. Upon inspection, I noticed several uncovered screws in the top of this oven that have the potential of falling into utensils and food unnoticed.

The product, in the report: SERIEL B07260207183, MODEL DES0100SS viking oven
SERIEL B07260207183, MODEL DES0100SS OVEN HAS DECALS THAT WASH OFF. YOU CAN’T READ IF IT IS ON BAKE OR BROIL, CAN’T READ THE TEMPERATURE. I set my oven to bake and went outside to do my gardening. I heard the smoke alarm go off, the house was full of smoke, the house nearly burned down if i had not been there. The oven was accidently set to broil. Since there is no way to tell what it is set at because the decals wash off. i have reported this to Viking Range, they are willing to sell me another panel at over $200, but the new one will also have the exact decals that will wash off.
