First aid Made Feb 10, 2020, sent to the company Feb 19, 2020, published by CPSC Mar 4, 2020
The product, in the report: Kenmore range oven Model 790.92803011
Oven was installed 8/20/13. We purchased house in 2017. In February 2019, heated up oven. Opened oven door to put in product, slowly closed oven door, outer glass on door shattered. New oven glass Kenmore OEM part was then installed. February 2020 heated oven up and again went to put in product and slowly closed door and again oven door glass shattered. Pieces go everywhere. Very dangerous and thankful no children or pets were present. Also, very damaging to hardwood floor each time. Found several similar cases with same oven model 790. Contacted kenmore and was told there is no recall and is no longer under the one year warranty. Transferred to 7 different departments with one that did not even realize kenmore and sears are one in the same. They told us we would have to contact Kenmore. Nobody at Kenmore/Sears seems to think this is an issue of concern. They want to send a repair call at owners expense to replace the glass again. Very fortunate that we did not sustain serious injury. At this point I would never ever purchase another Kenmore product. Satisfaction and cook at this time are laid off.

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 22, 2016, sent to the company Dec 1, 2016, published by CPSC Dec 15, 2016
The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore Elite Oven # 79041023801
We purchased our Kenmore Elite Oven Model #79041023801 in 2009. Over the last few months I noticed the oven racks seemed loose especially the middle one.
Last month when I went to pull the middle rack to check on the food, it slide off the track fell down to bottom of the oven and the hot food splattered all over my oven, floor and even burnt my foot.
I called for my yearly annual Sears service checkup because we have all of our “wonderful” products on extended warranty with Sears. The Tech confirmed that the oven liner has bowed out and doubts that Sears has this part on hand because this is such a rare issue!
WHAT? I found hundreds of similar complaints online for this specific oven!!
He said Sears will probably offer us some money (pro-rated based on the age of the oven) and we will have to buy another oven and shell out some cash to cover the difference!!!!
If I don’t buy another oven, I’m screwed because he said the warranty will be voided on this one.
SO, I have to pay for Sear’s faulty product and their lack of admission?

The product, in the report: kenmore double wall oven
I have a Kenmore elite double wall oven purchased from sears 7 years ago. The other day I was baking bread and heard a pop didn’t pay much attention. I returned to the oven to take the bread out noticed a thin line was running across the very bottom of my oven glass door.
I hoped to see a recall but WOW nothing. I will be calling sears to see what can be done but WHY would tempered glass crack. Oh, and I am the only one using the oven so excuses on what I could have done will not work.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Oven
i have a Kenmore Elite oven. The racks routinely fall and we routinely get burned and lose food. Fortunately, to date, no one has been seriously burned, however, i am very concerned that if the rack falls when the door is open and there is hot liquid contents, someone could be severely burned. I went to mySears forum today to find dozens of these complaints, which is where I learned that my situation is not an isolated incident, but common with this oven model. Sears apparently has done nothing but offer lip service.

The product, in the report: Kenmore elite range
Kenmore Elite range short circuited and caused smoked and sparks to come out of the back of the range. Ran to move the range and disconnect it from the power source to prevent the wall from catching fire or further damage. This occurred without warning and am very concerned had we not been honest could have been a lot worse. After it cooled I removed the back panel an several connectors had been completely burned and even the back panel had burn marks.

The product, in the report: Kenmore ultra Bake Self Cleaning Super Capacity. MDL. # 95822003 Serial # RM4813999
I had preheated my Kenmore Ultra Bake self cleaning super Capacity oven to 350 on bake. It then heated itself to 500 broil. I tried to turn off the oven, as the screen said off the oven was still on and starting to smoke. I then called my husband in and he turned the breaker off. That was the only thing that turned it off. I opened all doors and windows to let smoke out.

The product, in the report: Kenmore oven black series 790
My Kenmore 790 series outer glass exploded sending pieces of glass at least 15 feet across the kitchen. This happened as my wife was opening the door to remove cookies she was baking. Sears is fortunate she was standing off center of the glass and only sustained minor cuts on her arm or they would be talking to my lawyr. In researching this topic I see Kenmore has a history of glass shattering events. It seem something needs to be done because this could result in significant injures. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore Elite Slide In Range Black
The oven racks fall whenever anything is placed on them. I have had a roaster which was full spill most of its contents all over the oven. Hot foods and liquids spill causing a good chance of someone being burned.
The racks will not support any weight and basically renders the oven useless.
I have read on-line that this is because the oven cavity has expanded due to defects.

The product, in the report: Sears kenmore smooth top oven
Sears Kenmore smooth top oven range. While cooking in the oven the broiler came on all by itself. Filled the house with smoke and burn the diner. Pressing any of the controls would not turn the broiler off. Only way to turn it off was to open the circuit breaker. When the breaker was closed the broiler came back on again. This is a fire hazard and the symptoms are almost the same as those outlined in Comsumer Product Safety Commission recall #09-333 where the surface heating elements come on by themselves. Saferproducts.gov lists many similar incidents of the broiler coming on all by itself on several Kenmore range models.

The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore Model #790.70502013 Serial#VF04687018 Range and oven
The control panel tabs, that hold it in place, broke off on the right side causing a dangerous situation because the panel buttons could not be then pushed to control the oven. Had the oven been turned on, the oven could not have been shut off because the panel buttons could not be pushed to turn it off. The control panel is of a poor design that needs to be corrected. The plastic housing for the control panel is made from a brittle plastic material that is prone to failure. After [REDACTED] the web for this model, I came across others who had control panel problems on this model as well.
We have had this oven, just over a year now and it is past it’s warranty. It is used very infrequently as it is used for backup only. A new control panel and bezel will cost over $100 to replace.

The product, in the report: Sears/Kenmore Model:790.97452800 Serial:VF90823753
While using my 2 year old Kenmore oven/range, there was a huge spark from the back of the oven which was later identified as total “frying” of the control panel. In trying to fix the problem, Sears, who sold me the oven, can not stock the part to fix the control panel and the overlay wiring. They will not do anything about this problem, except to tell me to wait until March when the production of the control panel will be available. However, the spark that started this incident was large enough for me to see over the back of the range. Thankfully, there was not a fire.

The product, in the report: Sears Kenmore Elite range
I contacted Sears on 11/28/2011 concerning my Kenmore Elite Range which has the same safety problems as those identified with other Kenmore Elite ranges (manufactured by Frigidaire). I was told that my appliance is not covered by the recall. Referred tp this agency.
Purchase date: 7/1/2005 Model: 790.99122405 Serial: VF52527573 Problems: 1. Used bridge and gridle on left side. Turned off, but “hot surface” light will not turn off. Unplugged the appliance, left unplugged for > 8 hours, replugged. “Hot surface” light comes on, will not turn off, although left side burners are off/not warm. 2. Right front triple element burner. Various problems. (i) Will not turn off. (ii) Last used with 2 elements and heat could not be controlled (lowered). Had to unplug to turn off. (iii) When last used, turned heat to “LO”, but temperature would not lower. (iv) Unplugged to turn off, left unplugged for > 8 hours, replugged and triple element (all 3) heated without the burner being “turned on” with the switch, even though I had not used the 3-elements when last used. Heat was on high. Heat is uncontrolled. 3. Oven does not heat up to temperature set. 4. Convection oven will not turn on.
This particular unit is not on the recall list, but it appears to have the same problems.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Range model number 790.96613409 with dangerous component; Split Fire Controls Inc, clock timer oven controller, model number 316418702
WARNING Kenmore Range model 790.96613409 has unpredictable fire danger flaw in control panel The other day we joined what we never knew was a large group and had a fire in our Kenmore Range caused by the electronic clock/timer, oven control. This Kenmore tagged range was built by Frigidaire for Sears and is model number 790.96613409. I loved this range and it cost us a lot of money. In fact I have been a Sears guy for 50 years! Our ordeal began when the Kenmore Range’s electronic panel (with oven and clock/timer controls) shorted out suddenly in it’s insides and then burst into flames! There was lots of smoke and a shower of sparks spraying up the wall behind and above the range, within the several long seconds it took for the houses main circuit breaker panel to trip off the ranges electricity! This was incredibly terrifying and you might imagine my ( I will be polite ) SURPRISE, to research the internet about the burnt to a crisp clock/timer oven control, only to discover that there have been an incredible number of these fires for several years and all over the country! AND the replacement timer control offered by Sears, still to this day...is...none other ...than part number 316418702, made by the company called ( now get this ) “SPITFIRE Controls Inc. This name couldn’t have described my experience with this product any better. [REDACTED}
